" A hockey backwater" according to this article from The Sports Network, and it makes for an interesting read.

Here's a good idea Mr French (sorry Andy i did txt and ring you about this but you never got back to me).
This week the annual nhl all star game was cancelled.
Why not talk to the half dozen or so nhl'ers we now have gracing the league...get them to talk to some buddies and lets spend the money getting these guys over here to play an all star game.
I reckon sky could and would cover it, and recoup costs selling it to ESPN, we could probably sell out the MEN with such an event and put this backwater league on the map once and for all.
Rant over, but thats why i left hockey work (no money and mainly no ambition from the powers that be) and now find myself in premiership circles.

That would be an amazing event. When discussing the big announcement due today in the chatroom last night I said that I thought an NHL exhibition game would be a possibility. What could be better than a) A team of NHLers (first teamers) playing British teams b) Two teams of NHL players playing against each other in Britain? I for one would pay good money to see either !

b) Two teams of NHL players playing against each other in Britain? It happened both in 1992 with Montreal playing Chicago & 1993, when the Leafs played the Rangers. On both occassions the teams played back-to-back games and it was organised by French's Mustard. Shame they haven't done it again

What about NHL all stars v. Elite league all stars 2003/2004 (what's left of them).
Question:- If there is a NHL lockout and players come over here to "keep their hand in" , couldn't they have brought some of their refs with them? ;D

it mentions this: The cramped, one-story metal building is the kind of place where slapshots sound like shotgun blasts; where the London Racers hockey team practises immediately after a local morning figure skating class.
Very Very True

Very Very True Surely this is a catch 22 situation? No fans means no big arenas. No big arena's and were hockey's back water. Being hockey's back water means minimal fans. I am sure if a team in the uK could support a large multi teared arena, then we would have one. Look at Football over here, Unless you are in the top 2 leagues you normaly don't have a second tier. Where as Barcalona have multi thousand( I think around 30K) seater training stadium!
