Posted by Scuff over on SteelTalk: *************************** Press Release: Quote: MEDIA RELEASE Advance Notice Elite League poised for major announcement. The Elite Ice Hockey League are in the process of finalising a major announcement for next Monday – November 8th. Representatives of the Elite League have been in top-level talks and negotiations over recent days and League Chairman Eamon Convery speaking late on Friday evening said, “The past two days have been extremely rewarding and we are very excited about the announcement we will make on Monday. We have one or two final matters to complete on negotiations that will further project the Elite League and ice hockey in this country to new levels. The Elite League respectfully requests Sports Editors to reserve space on Monday for coverage of this major new initiative. ************************ What I would like the annoucment to be is: 1. Sponsorship 2. Merging of the Leagues 3. Panthers awarded for 2 points for London Game 4. Simms booted out UK Ice Hockey What I would really really like the annoucement to be 1 Simms booted out of UK Ice Hockey What is it likely to be: Who knows? Regards HL

dout it'll have anything to do with london and the point change. maybe something to do with merging leagues but don't see how that "project the Elite League and ice hockey in this country to new levels" maybe a tv deal would be good for everything i just guess it'll be something that only people in the know would have any idea about and is going to shock us all, most people will find it totally amazin and best thing for hockey, and then there will be the ones that find something to complain about only a guess of course

I reckon it's league unification or something similar. I can't see there being such a big fuss for a TV deal.
I'll go for league unification with a major sponsorship deal.

How about a merger which also has sorted their issues with UK Sport and so new funding streams will be available?

I honestly can't see it being unification yet..... unfortunately.
The crossover games have already proved their worth, no doubt - but I'd be surprised if they didn't take at least one season with this 'dipping the toe in the water' exercise before deciding that unification is a goer. And maybe that's not totally a bad thing..... too much too soon was a mistake that the ISL made, and look what happened there. Personally, on an issue like this, methinks that we're better off being tortoise rather than hare.
TV deal or league sponsorship is my guess (Ford? - given that new ice-hockey advert on TV.... OK, a bit of a stretch, but it sure would be nice....).

Whatever it is it sounds like positive news.
I have a feeling it may be something to do with Sponsership or a TV deal. it may be to do with a merger, but then wouldn't they mention talks with the BNL?
we'll have to wait and see...

Just pointed out by someone else on THF......
The new banner advert at the top of the official EIHL website is for Ford. Coincidence? You have to wonder.......

why isn't a TV deal Big news.
It s massive news for the fans
and they would ask for a reserved space on things like EMT to let people know that ice hockey has got a TV deal and or sponsorship
but i think sponsorship is more likely

It'll be a TV deal to show highlights of the CC Final. Did anyone notice that it was said to be shown in full a couple of seasons ago on BBC grandstand but never made it. As for EMT, What a load of rubbish, we're lucky to get about 10 seconds. As a non-football fan I am going to be biased, but they show around 5 minutes of (no offence) East Midlands teams losing matches in the Division 1 Coca Cola Championship (or whatever its called now) and yet panthers play there hearts out beat steelers 3 - 1 and it takes two days before they show us two goals and nothing else.
Ps. As you can probably tell, I don't really like EMT

they did show it but they only showed it in the two place where the teams came from eg Scotland and Northern Ireland

Hardly going to make our league better though is it.
i hoping for a TV deal and sponsorship or Sponsorship and something else.
who knows ITV might be looking for some sport during the winters now that they don't show much football or F1

see your point as they used to show racing programmes all afternoon on sundays such the the btcc,ad since thats finished for the winter they may decide to show hockey, there's no chance of it being shown at a decent time of day though (at night) as people aren't going to be to keen on it,according to someone on the elite league forum they claim it is going to be something BIGGER than a tv deal...

Hardly going to make our league better though is it. Hmm I see your point. I suppose it would promote the sport in this country, or whatever it was they said in the press release though...but maybe it'll come later I'll take a BBC prime time TV slot then! The only problem I see with people's ideas of sponsorship and TV deals is that why would that make national news? They are asking sports editors to save room...surely a sponsorship deal wouldn't be that important for people who aren't fans of the sport? I guess we'll have to wait and see....one hour to go!
