There was a hitch last wekend apparently. I was able to reveal what this hitch was on the SteelTalk forum: *********** Apparently the hitch was that the selling price was £300,000.10, and Mr Aspley said to Uncle Nort 'lets call it £300,000' Uncle Nort after coming around, from fainting said 'What 10p off the price you've no chance!!' ' I do understand that the Team218 boys will be passing a bucket around tonight (to put money in, not to be sick into ), and BDS, spokesman for Team218, is quoted as saying that they feel they will be succesful in raising the 10p, and hope to present it to Uncle Nort after the game ************** I believe the 10p was raised and presented to Uncle Nort last saturday night, so the deal can now be done. Regards HL

they have been hopeingfor news with in a week for a week already ;D Yes but look how long it took them to appoint a coach..... and that should have been easier than finding a new owner

LOL ;D good job no steelers are reading at the moment lol Actually, I wasn't making a joke. It's not a good thing, if you think about it. As much as I dislike them, we can't risk losing the Steelers - simply because this sport can't afford to lose ANY more teams. And losing that many fans has surely put them in a very precarious position.

it is sad but i keep turning up week in week out, except this saturday cos I'm going to a bonfire instead I never really went to Steelers in the days of sell out crowds but when I did start going the crowds were averaging 5-6000 a game and now in 5 years that has virtually halved, it is sad but we keep plugging on. One day the club might just get marketed properly and we might find all those missing supporters.

And almost lose half it's fanbase on game nights...?

I just don't understand how a team as successful as Sheffield can lose fans? And almost lose half it's fanbase on game nights...? Summer after summer of strife and bad headlines for the club. Summer after summer of strife and bad headlines for the league(s). Lessening standards in the quality of the league. Increasing prices. Less Saturday night games. Sheffield not being so dominant. Smaller crowds equal a worse game-night atmosphere which then turns off more fans. It doesn't take long for a vicious cycle to spin faster and faster. It's also worth noting that I think I'm right in saying that Panthers' attendances are lower than last year and possibly the lowest since moving into the NIC. And that's despite freezing the prices, maintaining Saturday nights and having a team with more chance of winning the league than (almost) ever before!!

It would be a realy sad day in Uk ice hockey if the Steelers where to drop out of top flight ice hockey . read on why they may just do this . I am going to predict that if a new owner is not brought in before Xmas, then Norton will move the team to Ice sheffield to save costs , ( HE will have no choice ) this will of course devalue the team from £300, 000 to less than £150,000 . if he can find a buyer ! It is well known buisness practice to play the waiting game , buy at the last moment , at this stage of the game we are at least 2 months away from a new owner for the steelers . by playing the waiting game they will get the steelers much cheaper . I do not think the sale will go ahead this year , which will mean big trouble for the Steelers if they wish to continue in the elite league . At the rate of falling attendances it will soon cost Norton to play Sheffield out of Hallam Arena .

Sheffield not being so dominant. If you're correct on that aspect, then those fans who have decided to stop going for the reason above... Are not genuine fans

It is certainly worth noting that you are talking rubbish! Attendances are up compared to last year - at least thats what I read in the programme.

We had the highest first game for a season in Panthers history i think, against Hull with an Attendance of 3,840. Overal average has been about 4,160. I think this is slightly higher than last season, only attendance that was down was the Sheffield game, which was mainly due to the lack of Steelers fans in comparison to previous encounters.

Yeah i know there where, but sections 18 and 19, and parts of 17 used to be taken up be Steelers in former games and recently they havn't been. Many Panthers fans didn't turn up, but the major difference was the lack of Steelers in comparison to previous games, where they used to bring a lot of fans.

Many Panthers fans didn't turn up, but the major difference was the lack of Steelers in comparison to previous games, where they used to bring a lot of fans. Recently? you mean the one game we've played there so far this season. I have some friends who go to Steelers, like me, and have noticed they haven't been to the last couple of matches. When I asked why the obvious answer was they couldn't afford to go but usually they would find the money but when I delved a bit further my mate told me they haven't been because a few weeks ago they hired a box for a birthday and I think Norton came to see them he nearly ruined said birthday party and ended up calling my friend a liar, I don't know what over but they aint been since. Another friend of mine, who used to do spot lights at the arena till the end of last season, I haven't seen at the arena at all this year and when I enquired why I was told that Norton didn't want to see him near the arena so he hasn't been. If the club wants to keep supporters then they can't go around upsetting them. The Ice Sheffield plan is a bad one because at the moment even with upsetting all the supporters who are there at the moment we still have 2000 too many supporters to play there because it only holds 1500. I think Norton's plan must be to pee off all the supporters till there's only enough left to play out of there, which it totally wrong and the sooner he goes the better. As for the value of the club I don't think Norton will budge from the £300,000 price tag he's put on it largely due to the fact that he's lost 1.4m approx (I overheard him one night talking to someone openly on concourse about it) and shelled out £250,000 for the club in the first place.
