As I understand it drums are allowed in the NIC but we seem to be the only team in the league who don't have any. We have a big arena and from what I see at home games we have different areas of the arena chanting different things or out of time.
I also know some people profess to hating drums at games. I'm interested to know people's views.

We've had this debate before and IIRC drums are permitted by the NIC. However, the customer dictates the rules on game nights (the customer being the Panthers) and they do not wish to have drums in the arena during games.
If this is no longer the case (or I remeber incorrectly) I dare say someone will let us know ...

Drums are allowed by by the NIC for ice hockey games as has been seen at play-offs and other non-Panthers events. I'm fairly sure there were some at the BNL cup weekend a couple of years ago.
The only time they aren't allowed is Panthers games. The only way the NIC would be able to enforce a policy of no drums for specific games only is if the tenants for those games (ie the Panthers organisation) have asked them to.
Personally I'm not keen on drums but I have to agree that since we moved to the NIC it's been pretty soulless so it may be time to give them a go in a set aside area of the rink. In LPS the fans made their own drums by stamping their feet on the floor, sometimes making so much noise the roof would lift, literally! Stamping on the new concrete floors is almost soundless as well as more painful.

I'm with Twix on this one......
As a general rule, I dislike drums. They annoy me - especially right next to me, but they annoy me in general. But - and I've said this before - something needs to be done to get the atmosphere back..... and drums may be one way of doing so. Let's face it - the cheerleaders don't do it, the music doesn't do it, Stef asking if he 'heard' the Barmy Army chant doesn't do it....
I know I'm one of those at fault here - I like to be noisy, as people who have sat near me at away matches can testify - but I only feel comfortable doing so when everyone else around me is also being noisy.... if my neighbours are quiet, then usually so am I. That's my fault, and I know it. But if us fans can't get ourselves to make some noise purely off our own bat, then IMHO we need something to boost it up, to get things going. Drums have a habit of doing that.....
Question - has anybody actually asked the Panthers if they have banned drums, or if they would be willing to allow such? And if so..... has anyone actually had an answer? It's all very well us talking round and round on here in ever-decreasing spirals until we disappear up our own @r$eholes..... but would it not make more sense to communicate with those who may actually have some control over this?

I hate drums too.If you cant cheer your team on then tough.Drums only become an irritation and annoyance to those you come to watch AND cheer.
MInd you, if I say i'd not come along if drums were used . I guess there would be millions of em just to get rid of me.lol.
Drums were banned. Why should there be any difference this or any other season. Its a family sport which also means us oldies too. x

Not sure about drums, they used to be quite effective at Manchester Storm games. If however you think that generating a lot of noise helps to build up the atmoshere then how about those horns building up to the face of last night. OK they were mostly from the Steelers fans but I thought the sheer volume was awesome. I brought along my daughter + boyfriend for the first time and they were totally gobsmacked (and can't wait to go back). How about we get a few hundred of them for us. (horns not Steelers fans)

If its horns you want I believe our very own nuttyrockeress is 'Lady with horns aplenty' and can sort you out at a very reasonable rate ... (1.50 a pop IIRC)

Think you'll find the Steelers fans were using blow horns Tim, a large bass version that make a heck of a din. They were trying them out at Coventry the other week.
Air horns are banned on health and safety grounds.

Hi! I do agree with the fact that we always seem to be chanting out of time! If the away teams can have drums & horns, why can't we We don't make enough noise at home games, and I actually get quite frustrated! Any more views on this ;D

Nope, those "air horns" would be aerosol powered horns also known as klaxons... they are VERY loud and certainly not suitable for use indoors; the ones we Steelers have are strictly lung-powered and you may have been able to hear that they certainly weren't confiscated!!!
