It's my understanding that the clubs only pay a portion of the players insurance and the players association pays the rest. Also the players themselves are being paid by their NHL teams.
So how does that constitute Panthers "buying the league". Belfast have the most expensive looking roster year in year out but we hear bugger all about them.
And as Panthers have THREE senior players out injured at the mo, why shouldn't they bring in a replacement?!
TBH we should be running with a spare D-man and Forward regardless of NHL lock-out or not.

It's my understanding that the clubs only pay a portion of the players insurance and the players association pays the rest. The NHLPA only provide coverage to players and their families, including medical and dental, disability insurance, life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and spousal life insurance. The NHLPA disability insurance does not cover their NHL contract. "Players are responsible for securing their own disability insurance, either personally or through the team," the memo states, "to cover the value of your NHL SPC." But these are the conditions, From hereYes and no. If players were injured before the lockout started and were under contract they'll be getting full wages, or those who are entitled to signing bonuses will get these, but otherwise players will be getting 8% of the 8.5% of their wages which was paid into escrow last season. This effectively means that the players aren't being 'paid' by their NHL teams, rather they are collecting money that they were paid for last season but which was held back. Sorry, link for that last bit.

If panthers signed another nhler that would be 14 imports on there roster , I mean no one could accuse you of buying the league if you won it . Mr black must have deep deep pockets If that happens i can't see us running with 14 imports. A couple would be on there way out when weaver and neilson return and corey will also be moving to the bench eventually. P.S. Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me. ;D No sour grapes as it looks like there could be another heading our way soon ;D

Mr black must have deep deep pockets Ah but at least we have the funds to afford to buy the league eh! God forbid anyone overspent doing so, then took everyone involved for all the money they were owed! That'd never happen!

For the record, as a steelers fan, i think us signing more than one NHLer is very very silly, as do i think coventry have made a mistake too. 'dont spend above your means' seems to be an ignored message in this league.

I might as well be the first to say it. "Well they would say that, wouldn't they?" Is a club with a history of haemorrhaging money likely to say anything else but "everything is fine" (with regards to the potential cost of keeping up with other teams) in a newspaper that may well be read by many of the local sponsors Sheffield courts so desperately? They are hardly likely to say "bringing in this new player has stretched us a bit", not the least because rival teams who could afford to step it up another notch may well do so (though if rumours are to be believed Panthers may well be doing so anyway).

I'm sure given its history the paper would have been first to jump on the "steelers going bust" story , well not the first , there would have been some blinkered Panther fans there first. Read the FACTS James , they also apply to your club as well don't forget.

Read the FACTS James , they also apply to your club as well don't forget. What 'FACTS'? I see a statement made to the press. I'm sure you aren't quite that naive that you believe everything written in a newspaper/on a website do you? Do you believe articles if they favourable to Steelers but disbelieve them if they are unfavourable? Is that how you roll? And how are you so sure that this mere statement which you have taken as 'FACT' applies to all clubs? I can't recall Panthers making any statements relating to the financial side of bringing in Stewart (though I may have missed such a statement, I rarely read the Nottingham Post) so who knows what the deal is down here. We can assume but hey, assuming isn't 'FACTS' is it?

Never mind , It was an attempt to shed some light on how NHL players CAN be affordable to clubs but you are so blinded by your hatred of the Steelers that you cannot see past that. I suppose I should have expected that , my mistake.

Oh the irony of this post, coming from the man who banned me for pulling him up on his tasteless jokes on stalin talk about Beau and likes to take shots at the Panthers daily.
