I'm not sure exactly how much stock we can put in this guy's 'analysis', after reading one particular paragraph:- Hang on a minute... so (according to this Ken Campbell) the league should make concessions from the previous CBA? As in... give more to the players, not less?? Is he expecting that the players will reject any "takeaway" or is it just his opinion that they shouldn't? (The whole tone of the articke would indicate the latter at least, possibly the former as well). Not sure what planet this guy's on...

From looking at all the too-ing and fro-ing it would suggest that this lockout may go on for some time to come. Good for us but bad for hockey as a whole I would have thought. As someone who follows the NHL from a distance and doesnt claim to understand whats going on, just how damaging to the sport is this? The previous lockout it was claimed was very damaging. Another one 5 or 6 years later would be equally damaging would it not?

I believe the NHLPA knows that they will have to make some concessions to the share of HRR, but not 12 or 13% that the NHL offered to start with. All the guy who wrote the article is getting at in that sentence was that the NHL are now trying to make out like they are making a concession when in fact its the complete opposite. The NHL is the side making all the gains during this lockout. As it stands now compared to the previous CBA the NHLPA would make a 7% concession on HRR but obviously the NHL is trying to make out like they have made a concession just because their previous offer was I believe 44% of HRR to the NHLPA The NHLPA knows that this has to happen but not to the extent that the NHL wants to make it. Also the NHL knows it has teams that make loses and thats why they have revenue sharing system in place

It's not really 7% though is it? The PA admitted the other week that growth is 7%, so dropping 4%-ish on the HRR isn't a loss at all.
The bottom line is why do the NHLPA think that hockey players deserve and are rightfully due more than the NFL, MLB and NBA players earn from their revenues?

The NBA players association split due to the players realising those in charge where greedy for themselves and pricing the players out of being able to play a sport they love. I wish some NHL players would stand up and tell their union to stop being so greedy on the top end and just barter over the low end player deals. Which is really where the main issue of the old CBA suffered in.

Doesn't matter what other sports earn or don't earn though does it? One of the main bits now will be do the players want to take a pay cut. All be it not a proper pay cut. As they would take the lost money as an equal payment for each year of their remaining contract BUT that money would come against the players spilt of HRR which as Fehr says will just result in players paying players rather than the owners paying players.

In terms of negotiations, of course it does. We have the NHL discussing what players should earn out of the league's revenues and we have another 3 major sports who pay almost the same as each other. I just can't see the league justifying asking for anything over 50%, and that may be why they're evidently giving up that ghost.
I think and hope we see a step process. 52, 51, 50 and then stabilise.

I'm pretty sure at this point that the NHL season will start on November 2nd. I doubt we'll have a deal tonight, but one of these 4 proposals will lead the way. It's all on Fehr now, don't drop the ball.

All reports seem to indicate them being as far apart as ever. I am more than a little surprised TBH. I can see a lot if anger being diverted the way of the union now.

I posted that 10 minutes before they came down again. All signs pointed to an offer that was approaching fair, a negotiating point. ...but no. The NHLPA have decided to just jiggle about the font and the title of their first offer. I've not taken sides in this until now but Fehr is f**king this right up. The owners came forward with a huge advance and a deal heading in the right direction, it's been met with stubbornness. The players might be calling the owner's bluff, but they won't blink. They'll lock those selfish f**kers out for a decade if they have to. In all fairness, the NHL ought to withdraw their last offer and offer nothing higher than 45% until the players are forced to sign.

Sounds like in the NHLPA third proposal they offered the same 50-50 only this time the NHL pays for the remaining contracts
which IMO is only fair as the owners are the ones that signed the players to their players existing contracts, so by the sounds of it they have just altered who pays for the players contracts that have been cut.

Our best hope is a coup in the PA side of things. We will never reach an agreement with Fehr.
What a depressing turn of affairs.

Good news! Still not signed and sealed yet, but if either side chucked a spanner in the works now they'd be skinned alive. Just wish ESPN America still had the NHL rights... So shaggy , Newham, you said the season wouldn t start so where's your negativity now!!! Go on then, Pidge - point out exactly where I said that the season wouldn't start? In English, not translated into Pidge-speak.

The last few days its been clear a deal was coming. Before that... Not so much. Only Pidge would take this great time to score points though.
Brilliant brilliant news though. I've missed it so much.
