Heard a couple of Brits may be going to play in Kazakhstan next season, Ben O'Connor is playing there at the minute.

apparently O'Connor is on 60,000 euro(£50k) a season over there.
If thats true, i dont blame anyone for going there, although i havent a clue what the quality of the league and players is over there.
I would be very suprised to see Dowd playing in the Elite next season.

Kazakhstan hockey is better than British hockey, but I think it's more of a skill league, not sure

Aren't the Kazakh's about the same level internationally as GB, if not slightly better? That sort of standard, plus money, must be a fairly big incentive.

I've been told Dowd got an offer from Kazakhstan and Sheffield but has chosen to stay in Belfast for one more season...

It won't just be the Brits (potentially) heading off this season, there is a lot of interest from Kazakhstan and the Ukraine for the leagues best players this season it seems.

Dowd won't be in Belfast next season unless they match the 1400 quid a week he's been offered to play in Kazakhstan.

Its not all about money though is it?
Would he want to be the opposite side of the world from his girlfriend for half the year, would he like the lifestyle culture etc.

With Belfast netminder Stephen Murphy rumoured to have turned down a move last summer, the 30-year-old is again believed to be attracting strong interest from Beibarys Atyrau. Furthermore with Ben O’Connor looking set to return to Kazakhstan for 2012/13, clubs are understood to be showing interest in the likes of David Clarke, Craig Peacock, Rob Dowd, Mark Richardson and David Phillips.

Hmmm... What happens if most of these ‘top Brits’ do actually up sticks and leave for the season?
There would be some seriously big holes to fill in the EIHL if they do! Would icing a maximum of 10 imports on game night to cover this shortfall be enough for the arena teams to get their crowds in?

Come on borat, make my dreams come true. Clarkes on a 2 year deal so

Can anyone see Murphy going abroad? He has played abroad before and if he is to go again I think now would be the right time for him.
