Anyone else have any problems with them?
To start with I was a little fed up of being searched so rigerously every single time I went into the building, but I understand the reasons behind it so wasn't too annoyed about that.
But some of the ones that were taking tickets off me seemed err grumpy to say the least an gave me loads of evil stares!
And then to top it off I nearly got into a fight with one when I pushed him away as after searching me he tried to put his hands all over my female friend I was with which I wasn't gonna stand for. Luckily the other stewards around him realised what was happening and told him to back off but surely he should know he isn't allowed to search women?
And also why wasn't there any women stewards to search the women? On the sat night we heard the people behind us talking about how they had had their conker taken off them as they came in so it made us laugh when my friend had some we picked up in her back pocket but as they were not allowed to search her they didn't even know. Whats the point of having all that security when if I really wanted to take anything illegal or dangerous in there I would have just given it to her to take in for us!
Anyway rant over but did anyone else feel they were a little heavy handed?

Because my dad is a photographer (not Dave Page obviously) he had his camera bag, and because he was on crutches he went in the front way with my mum, however the stewards would not let me in with them so I had to go the normal way in, no problem with that.
Round the other side the stewards to one look in the bag and let go through for the body search. I walk up to the bloke who has a big smile on his face. He then says "Bonjour" so I said Hello back. He then starts searching me, still no problem with that.
I was fine until he winked at my and said Goodbye.
Never saw him again after that, and i moved on to other stewards, who like you've already said, seemed grumpy and were very heavy handed. they didn't seem to care for anyones personal belongings.

I think you need to differentiate between the stewards and the security, the security were as you say heavy handed, I've never been searched like that for a football or hockey game before.
The actual stewards were great, helpful and friendly and worked hard all weekend. On the way to the Milan game against I had a misunderstanding with one when I asked for the entrance and he tried to hand me a free ticket for it.
For every game they had the big security guys between the Milan fans and the locals on each side. It certainly felt like they were expecting problem with them.

Actually, compared to the security guards for the Worlds in Hungary 2002 and Croatia 2003, they were quite restrained on the body-searches..... maybe it's a European thing? Very odd that I had my hip-flask for the Saturday afternoon game, and was sipping from it quite openly during the game (I know at least one of the stewards saw me, because he gave me a grin!) - yet it was taken off me on Saturday night. No consistency in the security at all........

I had my 2 spare rechargable batteries for my digital camera confiscated on the Saturday - presumably on the basis that I could throw them, either onto the ice, or at other members of the crowd? With the price of rechargables, the last thing I would want to do is throw them away! I had a hell of a job getting them back too. Ironically, my wife then went to the Gothiques shop downstairs and was sold a Tournament puck! No double standards there then

On the Sunday night I had to leave a pottery gargoyle (look, I happen to like them) that I bought down by the Cathedral at the ticket desk since "it could be thrown". The security staff were very good natured about it, and it was obvious they were only sticking to a "rules is rules" approach and almost let me through with it. And like you say, I could have purchased several pucks for the same money having far greater aerodynamic qualities than your average French Gargoyle......

The NIC are the same in a way, they wont allow you to watch the game with a plastic bottle, incase you decide to throw it on the ice or at someone, but in the shop they sell pucks etc which would hurt a lot more than a plastic bottle.

Think you'll find chaps that the only reason for the security at games was after the little scuffle that seemed to take place amongst/near the Milan fans towards the latter stages of our game with them. There were hardly any security people for that first game, no searches etc.... but for the remaining games the searches started. Ironically, for the final match of the tournament the security peeps didn't bother searching us. (Obviously I didn't look like a trouble maker. Either that or he didn't fancy me anymore ) Vivre le sous-marin jaune, a new Panthers song if ever I heard one. Especially with the colour of our shirts. All together now .... nous tous vivons dans un sous-marin jaune un sous-marin jaune un sous-marin jaune
