Terrible, very sorry to hear this news. Must be awfully hard for his family to understand why.

Very sad news, especially for his young children who no longer have a father.

So sad. I can't begin to imagine what his young family must be going through. So many questions left unanswered.

Absolutely tragic - I don't even pretend to give a monkeys about football, but 42 with a young family and the start of something very special within the Wales senior team, it's terribly hard to understand.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends at this incredibly upsetting time.

If anyone saw the way the Swansea crowd reacted to the news, you'll know it was absoluttly top class. Asked to do a minutes silence for the great man he was and they broke out into applause and a chant of "Theres only one Gary Speed". Properly classy and a rare moment of humanity in football where we realise it is just a game.

Im still devastated by this news, such a tremendous player, long servant and was turning into a decent manager.
RIP Gary Speed

Couldn't stop thinking about this yesterday - terrible news. On the outside looking in you're thinking "top class footballer; now manager of his country; nice house; millionaire; happily married; kids. He's got it all". Only he will really know what drove him to do it. Terrible shame though and thoughts with his family. RIP

Er, he's married and has 2 kids? Are you that naive? It looks that way.... Even more reason for him to be desperate to stop it coming out.

I guess I am that naive. Lots of rumours going round at the moment, we may never find out the real reasons. Truely shocking regardless of why.

No evidence that Speed intended to kill himself according to coroner's inquest today; narrative verdict given as a result.
