Whilst I appreciate there is a reason for keeping all posts on a particular subject to one thread, the official 'sticky' Continental Cup thread now runs to some 11 pages and is a little unwieldly. There have been several attempts to begin new threads on break-away subjects such as 'Continental Cup will be good for Panthers' which have been locked because they were not in the right position. Do the moderators not think that over zealous policing of the message board is a little unnecessary, and indeed goes against the 'free and easy' purpose of the internet in its truest form? Surely if someone wishes to start a new thread, especially since a vast majority of the regular posters are currently in a pub in France, then they should be allowed to. Lets be honest, many of the threads below the official Continental one have been there for quite some time. Not a dig (well maybe a little one) but merely an observation. Hopefuly people will be able to add their views on this particular subject, assuming the thread isn't locked that is....

Please see Rule 9 of the Forum rules.
I'll also give a quick explanation of my reasoning for not wanting duplicate threads. It is the nature of debate that it covers more than one aspect of, say, the Continental Cup, and so, if we had several threads, they would (and do!) converge to a point where the same debate is taking place. Then, either people ask questions that have already been answered on another thread, or end up posting the same thing on all the threads. Both have happened recently and are things we wish to avoid repeating.
Basically, it gets confusing and messy. It makes for a far more reasoned/informed/coherent debate if it is all kept in the same place.
Don't worry that your comment won't be read if you don't start a new thread - posting on the existing, official thread will mark that thread as containing new posts and, if it is not a sticky thread, bring it to the top of the board.
Also, most people will be more likely to check the official thread than one with just one or two posts (ok, not everyone, but in general).
A comment was made on the length of the official Continental Cup thread. You don't have to wade through all the posts, you can skip to the last page where the newest posts are.
Finally - having everything in one place is easier for the moderators, who, BJ in particular, give up a lot of their spare time to run the board. Please respect BJ's wishes as set out in the rules.
As for "free and easy purpose of the internet in its purest form" - try telling that to the previous Cage Forum admin who was threatened with legal action over comments made on here. In our litigious society, a more modern description of internet forums/chat rooms is that of them being like the administrator's house, and that the administrator sets the rules as they would in a real house. As such, the Cage is BJ's house, the moderators are his "house keeping staff", and I can only reiterate a plea to follow the rules. After all, there is nothing stopping you setting up your own forum and running it in any way you wish. Not that I am saying "clear off and do so", but merely pointing out that this is the way of the world we live in.

Whilst i understand the rules and reasons for keeping posts so tidy - i actually can't be bothered to post on these threads anymore because there are so many conversations and comments about so many different things, it's so hard to keep up with. I understand why it is done but as someone has started a thread about this i felt i had to give my thoughts. Thanks Mingle xx

exactly
It is alot lot easier if you have something new to say to have another thread open, rather than having to search through for replys to you question or whatever.
If you want to keep messages under one topic eg CC then you have to have someway of putting Clear sub headings in.(which is not possible).
I agree about getting rid of topics repeating themselves, but don't lock threads that might be on the same subject, but we are talking about something different with in it.
as i would rather have muiltiple threads on the same subject about differnt areas of it, rather than one thread with everything in it that you just get lost.

Tim, is it really necessary to start a new thread saying Milan are currently winning 3-0?

well why not it linked directly to panthers as there result mattered (alot) if panthers wanted to go through. and there isn't much else being said is there as it is still on the first page even after all the people in france have returned with there thoughts. also is there any point in haveing 'Live Video' as a thread or 'continental cup will be good for panthers' thread as they are all still on about the CC and there are about 3 or 4 saying the same thing about how well panthers have done in the CC they haven't been blocked also if you lock a thread why don't you just delete it if you don't want it taking up space?

Classic example is the game in which Craighead to banned! There was an official game thread in which people were posting about score, play, players performance, refs etc.... But the big issue in the game was Craighead and peoples views on what happened and what they thought should happen. I personally think there should've been 1 new thread for this topic as it was a big one that people had lots to say about! I started one and got told off

I think the best way to avoid the frustration in the futuure is to join us on the Continental Cup adventure in 2005-06!!
(The Shagster and Myself are hoping for the Czech Republic or Slovenia for the trip! ;D)
