Saw the news on sky this morning; from the joy of Casey Stoner's win yesterday to the terrible news concerning Wheldon, shocking.

Horrifically sad. Such a talented racer, by all accounts a great bloke, and a father of two. Thoughts to his family, friends and colleagues. I just hope that Indy Car doesn't do what F1 did in 1994 and kneejerk reactions. The shunt was almost a good advert for Indycar safety - it is a miracle that no-one else was badly hurt in that 15 car smash - one of the biggest I've seen, certainly since Greg Moore's fatal crash almost exactly 12 yrs ago.
The new car for next year (ironically tested by(and to be named after) Dan) is a lot safer - no chance for tangling of wheels because of the design of the rear of the car. Possibly something F1 could look at, thinking about Mark's crash last yr.
Interesting to read calls for catchfencing - which has been around for decades - to be scrapped in favour of plexi.
Not too keen on calls for ovals to be binned, or covered cockpits, mind.

I'd never heard of Dan Wheldon before his crash but I wish I had. Seems like he was a top bloke respected by his peers in Indie cars.
