Ok then
Here is a question - I am postive that the first match I went to (Panthers v Steelers a few years ago now) near the end the Steelers challenged the size of our netminders stick and a contraption was brought out to measure it etc
It was ok and Steelers had to have a penalty I seem to think
Never seen anybody try it since - has it ever worked ?

Oh yes... Chris McSorley (coach of the London Knights way back when in the ISL) was a master of it. Once saw him (successfully) call a stick infraction just after the opposing team had taken a penalty, putting his team on a 5-on-3... and then he pulled his netminder as well to make it 6-on-3! And it wasn't even the third period, much less near the end of the game... I can't honestly remember if they scored or not, but talk about chutzpah!

I'm sure there has been one later than that. I've only been watching since EIHL at Panthers matches and sure i've seen one! I remember one game against the London Racers at home. We were one goal down and ended up with a double power play near the end of the game. Panthers scored to tie the game and went to overtime - I think the game was drawn though. Can any one else remember this?

A couple of years ago Coventry were two goals down against Manchester with about 30 secs left and still won it. And that was after Manchester had missed a sitter of an empty net too !

I've found it we were 6 on 3. 6 on 4 by time the goal was scored. scored by Bruce Richardson at the back door at 3.45 of the video we lost on penalty shoots though.

The last punch thrown by Bergin at the start of that video is a belter!!! ...doesn't get a mention by the ever neutral Giants commentary though.

Best time to pull the keeper is ideally between about 2 minutes and 1 minute 30 left in the game according to commentary from an NHL game I saw the other night.
It's something I've rarely seen work at the EIHL level but when watching the NHL it works much more often, most likely down to the fact that the players are just better and actually appear to know what they are doing...

Should be more of this... Montreal Canadiens played without a goalie for the final 9:30 of a game against the Chicago Blackhawks on April 5, 1970. Montreal needed to win, tie, or score five goals to make the playoffs, so when Chicago went ahead 5-2, they pulled their goalie for the rest of the game. It didn't work. Montreal didn't score any more, and the Hawks padded their stats with five empty-net goals. I always think teams are too slow to pull the goalie. Face off when your attacking with 5 or so seconds left of a period - yank the nettie. unlikely to result in a goal against, extra man could get you a goal. I wouldn't do it with 5secs left in the period, way to risky lose the face off and they get a free shot on goal.

Hi guys first post on the cage. Use to post years ago on the cage. In over 20 years of watching the Panthers I can only remenber one time when we pulled the goalie that was not at the end of the game. Alex Dampier did it at the end of the first period in a game at Solihull. I think we had 8 seconds to go of the period and the score was 2-2, we were on the powerplay and Alex pulled the keeper as we had a faceoff in their end. Adey won the faceoff and if memory serves me correctly Rick Srachem scored. We then went on to win the match by a big score. Maybe Stef can remember it.

Can't remember that particular instance, but Alex wasn't slow to pull the goalie if there were 4-5 seconds left in a period and we had a face-off in the attacking zone. He did it a few times, but I don't recall many occasions where it worked.

It worked this time Stef I can remember Alex killing himself laughing when it went in and it certainly upset the Solihul team. I guess he thought we would beat Solihul even if they had scored on the empty net.
