i can't afford ice hockey gear, skate well enough or get to the arena to train and silly o'clock @ night.
so i'm looking to start ball/street hockey.

Have you looked at the dek hockey teams in the local area?
Also ice hockey kit is pretty cheap second hand.

Dek hockey, is just the same as ball/street hockey - and you'll hear it called that more than ball/street hockey.
Nottingham have plenty of teams that you could look out for, there is the Arnold Wolves and Cubs (who I believe train on a Tuesday and a Friday at Southglade Leisure Centre) there is the South Notts Outlaws/Reapers who train on a Tuesday and Wednesday (unsure of where as they've moved venues) and a new team in the Greasley Bears (again unsure as to where they train out of.
If you searched for the club names on Facebook, the contact details for each club will be on there.
Good luck!!

The NottinghamSkaters (local skate club) and BladeSoc (Nottingham Uni Rollerblading Society) have a weekly meetup - every Saturday afternoon from 1:30pm - that always includes at least an hour of street hockey. We play two versions: "beginner" hockey for the newbies and "proper" hockey for those of us that can play. We usually play with a ball (sometimes a puck if indoors) and games are strictly non-contact as the most protection we wear is knee pads, elbow pads and gloves. Location varies at the moment as we're trying to secure somewhere indoors for the winter. I would say check out our website - www.nottinghamskaters.co.uk - but it's down at the moment, so we're relying on our Facebook groups. Search for "NottinghamSkaters" or "BladeSoc"
