To be honest Plommer was pretty tough. He was a gamer and could throw them. Plommer wasn't a big fair square type of player (nobody was then, they would fight to hurt each other not just go through the motians because both tough guys are on the ice together) For his size he was a good fighter and could handle pretty much anybody his own size. Yeah Mithchell hammered him after the slash but Roy was alot bigger and he jumped him.
I remember Plommer fought Graham Garden at the HOS in 98/99 and they fought all over the ice in a cracking toe to toe scrap. I have the fight on a dvd somewhere, I'll look for it now and if I can find it i'll upload it then everybody can see he could deffo throw em.

A big part of the reason why it became so easy to hate them. Sadly missed.

A cheapshotting pussy is the last thing that comes to mind with Plommer . No, Chris hits the nail squarely on the head. Plommer was a cheapshotting pussy. Thanks jono

How about Les Millie, another of their really annoying players back then, getting a good hiding off Hunty after about two minutes of a game? Both of them got kicked out for it if I remember rightly.
Anyone who wants to know how the Panthers-Steelers rivalry started should have a look at some of those early matches. When they were out on the ice both teams genuinely seemed to hate each other. It was awesome.

I don't recall Cranston being that much of a knob-end when he played for Fife, maybe it's my fading memories, maybe it's nostalgia!

Cheapshotter? No, well not more than a lot of other players. He was just a very good agitator, like Finnerty is today and like Bruce was for you guys. Some of you would have loved him in a Panthers shirt, he was no worse than many of the top end agitators that we've seen in Sheffield, Nottingham, Cardiff et all throughout the years.
BTW - I might be wrong but I'm sure there is/was a picture of him fighting a Devil (Ware perhaps) near block 7 or 8 of the NIC.....take a look next time you pass it (if it's still there - I think it is)

Sounds like a character to me
Good enough to get three pages of comments in a short space of time from people who remember him - must have had something about him
Just based on what I have read does sound like a player you love if he is on your team or hate if he is on the opposition team

Dont think he ever fought Ware Glynn . Him and Frank Evans hated each other and fought often . Evans being a lot bigger and heavier and Tommy won most of em . There is a picture of him on here tangling with Premak , a player a lot bigger than him . on the amnesia thread.

It's interesting that Simon Hunt's name keeps coming up on this thread, because he and Tommy had a lot in common.
Neither of them were the most gifted of players, but they were both heart and soul guys who would give 100% and do whatever was needed for the team.....Fans love that sort of player.
They both also remained very loyal to their respective clubs.
I think Tommy's lack of talent was found out during the ISL, but he will always be considered a legend to all Steelers who watched him play due to his contribution in the Heineken League.

Think Millie lost a tooth due to huntie ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I recall it was 3 teeth Millie left on the ice after being well and truely thrashed by Hunty. Didn't like Plonker Plommer or Crybaby Cranston, cheapshotting prats the pair of them. Yes they were prepared to fight a lot and lost a lot too, but TBH they brought much of it on themselves. And as for Cranston climbing into the crowd wielding his stick kinda sums up the type of person he was. Let the sqeelers retire Plommers shirt. Me, I wouldn't use it wipe up dog pee off the kitchen floor.

Why is this even on a Panthers fourm? They can stick his shirt up their ...... for all i care. should sell them an extra few tickets for that game so all good. Because some people like to talk about hockey as a sport and not just blindly stick to the usual drivel, pre school digs at other teams just because they arent panthers? I never saw Plommer play, or Cranston, or Hunt, or many of the other players mentioned in this thread play 'live'... but that doesnt stop me beining interested in sport, and whats gone before. If he really was a richardson style agitator, and not afraid to drop em... even if he did get beat up... thats exactly the sort of player a lot of the old school fans want to see, and probably a majority of new fans. I for one, dont want to see a team full of pussys who dont even have the balls to have a gob on them or throw a cheap slash off the play, with one tough guy thrown in the mix. I hang my head in shame when Clarke mouths off while hes safely put himself behind the linesman. Dont get me wrong, i like watching some of the silky skills of a top scorer like Pelle or Galbraith, but I also know how entertaining it would be to watch a league full of Richardsons and Rees' (and by the sounds of things, Plommers, Cranstons and Hunts) play week in week out.

I absolutely agree, next time a fight breaks out, look at the crowd, not the ice, see most of the crowd straining to see more - give the fans what they want - old school hockey. Back in the 90's I had the "Hockey Shop" in Sheffield, we sold Steelers gear (me a Panthers Fan selling to the enemy ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) ) I got to see a good few games up there. The "Duke" (a Simms'd up handle) was a grafter and a fighter - he'd walk through a brick wall for his team Cranston was a wind up merchant, I hated the little bu**er!! A post earlier mentioned Ivan Matulik, he was a hard bloke, once shook his hand, it was like a bloody shovel. Anyone remember the famous Paul Adey fight at LPS, they squared up, took two minutes each, came out and went toe to toe - that's Old School Hockey!!
