Hey everyone. As you can probably tell from my username I am Canadian. I am moving to Nottingham in June and I have been doing my obvious research as a hockey lover into what sort of leagues are available and what kind of Scrum/Scrimmage system you guys have set up.
I am hoping to find a rec league even if I have to head out of Notts some, as it looks like the skill level (after seeing some videos) from the Scrimmage group is beginner which won't be something I will be able to stick with.
Does anyone have some information on where I can join a (beer) league? The only options it seems is: 1. Scrimmage, 2. Nottingham Panthers. Which is obviously a world apart and I am not looking to play professional hockey.
Thanks!

Hey There is no actual rec league in the UK as every time someone tries to set on up it comes unstuck due to insurance issues. but Rec teams do play challenge games against other rec teams all over the country, plus hopefully soon an in house rec tournament There are 3 rec teams in Nottingham though Nottingham Northstars - pretty much just a drop in scrimmage though as they do not play games but does get to a high standard during the summer months with Elite League players dropping in. Nottingham Knights - slightly more structured session with a few drills etc but also play very few games if any. www.nottinghamknights.proboards.comNottingham Phantoms - Probably the most structured session and they play the most games up to about 20 in a year, usually away games though. www.Phantomshockey.co.uk & www.nottinghamphantoms.proboards.comAll three teams have a large range of abilities from beginner to players who have and/or could play league hockey. You also have the Nottingham Lions who play league hockey and are in the English National League 2 levels down from the Elite League. But because you are from Canada it could get expensive registering for a league team. Whereas for a rec team it will be about £50 one of payment for registering for the year with the EIHA and then £10ish per session after that to pay for costs of ice which is the same as everyone else. Nottingham Lions even though they play league hockey are still an amateur team in a mostly amateur league (semi-pro at best) and every player is expected to pay his own way. www.nottinghamlions.com Visit www.eiha.co.uk to see all registered rec teams in the country plus more information about the league teams

Thank you kindly for that information. I couldn't find any of this on my own online and I was worried that no one played over there!
I'll pop in for some scrimmage at National Ice Centre to get started and then probably head to the most active team/roster once I am settled in the area.
I appreciate your help, have a great weekend.

Agree with everything Tim has said. And just to add that 40 minutes up the road in Sheffield there are quite a few teams suited to every level. There is at least one session of hockey every single day in Sheffield and most night 2. Pretty much all the teams in Sheffield play regular games as well.
TBH mate between Sheffield and Nottingham you are in the most densely active area of the country REC hockey wise so you should easily get a session sorted.
Feel free to drop me a line if you need any more info mate and I'm sure Tim won't mind helping you either.

Thanks Nemesis. Very helpful. My plan when I get there is to use public transit and to avoid purchasing a car because of the extremely high cost of ownership and the fact I will only have it for 2-3 years over there. Is it easy to get from Notts to Sheffield using transit, or would it take too long on a normal work day to get out there? I wonder if other guys make that trip and I could tag-along.
Ah this is exciting now!

Train and tram is a possibility but would substantially increase your traveling times. There are many players that travel too and fro mate, I'm sure when you find a session if it happens to be in Sheffield there will be someone from Notts coming over for it.
