*Doths his flat hat to the audience* Howdo folks For the Q and A, head over to the Team 218 website and at the bottom of the front page, you will find the link to the 1st of 2 pages of Q and A's Right, time to go into Oscar mode Firstly, ta to DS for agreeing to do this for the Cage Secondly ta to the admin here for giving me the green light to go ahead with this. Thirdly, but more importantly, the posters on the cage who put the time into sending some good questions. Like BJ said, its a damm good read, and IMO a better read than the Grant Charman Q and A, which was a good read. If there is to be another Q and A, then due notice will be given. Terrah for now

Say what you like about DS but you have to admire his honesty, which is refreshing in this game of ours!

Thanks for that BDS and BJ
Thankyou to DS for the honesty of his answers.
However, I am concerned that he does seem to acknowledge that he hates and despise children and the mother and fathers of those children who support Panthers.
There is a place for rivalry, but I think the man has crossed the line.
IMHO I think the man is disturbed in some way, after all if you saw 8 year wearing a shirt of a rival team, as a mature adult would you hate and despise that child??
Its scarey really.
Regards
HL

Well done to the two Daves for taking the time and effort to do this.
Some serious food for thought amongst DS's replies....

If some of those replies are food for thought, then someone had better call the health inspectors.....
What a pile of ignorant trash. Mealy-mouthed attempts to deflect the questioning of his hatred - even Carlsson and Adey "hated" Nottingham, eh? Funny that, since they were quite happy to come back here. Looks like Simms is living in a very sick and twisted dreamworld without much grip on reality.
And as for the yawn-worthy repetition of the anti-unification stance.... what a moron. The arena teams need large away gates to survive? Wonder when he's going to call for the likes of London and Basingstoke to be thrown out of the league, given their much smaller travelling support?
The only stable way for teams to operate is to build up and maintain home support... with away fans being the icing on the cake! It's nobody else's fault but Sheffield's that their home support has dwindled.... and they don't seem to be doing anything to reverse that, do they? And DS The BS himself is directly responsible for many away fans staying away.... not that he's prepared to recognise it.
The fact that unification would benefit the sport as a whole seems to have escaped his myopic notice.... and that it would benefit ALL teams in the leagues, including the Steelers. But no..... he's only concerned with anything that directly and immediately benefits Sheffield.
No vision, no class, no respect.
Sheffield (and the rest of us) would be better off without this piece of hate-mongering dross.

That's not the most constructive of replies Shaggy.... You do your self no justice with a post like this. Personal abuse is uncalled for, indeed is prohibited in the forum charter. I know you dislike Dave Simms but your outburst puts him in the shade when it comes to vitriol. Lighten up for goodness sake.

I know you dislike Dave Simms but your outburst puts him in the shade when it comes to vitriol. Lighten up for goodness sake. If we were talking about someone who only once or twice has 'had a pop' at us, then fair enough...... but not this consistent hypocritical hate-monger. He has been peddling his wares of hate for YEARS - and has it done anybody any good? - us? them? No, it hasn't. How anyone can stomach his bile is beyond me..... I make no apologies for my attitude towards Simms. In direct contrast to his attitude, I don't hate everyone and everything to do with the Steelers, there are several Steelers fans whom I regard as friends, I have often even defended them in online discussions (on THF for example) when I thought it appropriate. All I want is to be able to regard them as just another opposition club, to be respected in the same way and for them to treat us with the same respect. DS is directly responsible for making that impossible. He makes no apology for his despicable actions, and I see no reason why he should be tolerated - especially given the hypocritical tendency for him and his disciples to whinge at every little slight towards them, whilst continuing in their campaign of hatred and arrogance. Put him in the shade? - I couldn't if I tried!

I had a read of the Q&A and to be honest, it didn't throw up anything I didn't expect. "It's wasn't hard to get ex-Nottingham players to buy into the we hate Nottingham idea..." <Paraphrased by the way> I think that's pretty pathetic in all honesty. Adey & Carlsson must hate the club so much. I mean after all, this is Calle's 3rd stint with the club

Thanks to BDS and Dave Simms. I still don't like the guy per se, but I do respect him a bit more. He clearly loves his club and sticks by them, and would do pretty much anything to support them. We need that kind of attitude in ice hockey. I agree he seems OTT on the hating Panthers, but it's also clear that he knows he can wind us up and takes enjoyment in doing so. If we didn't respond so easily to that then he wouldn't do it...
I was also impressed by his attitude of not really caring whether he's like or not, and for sticking by what he believes in - whether I agree with what he believes in or not, you have to admire a man who sticks to his guns in the face of public opinion.
Its good to hear views from well-known people in the sport. Who's next?

Familiarity breeds contempt... Igor If familiarity breeds contempt, I suggest that Panthers and Steelers play each other just once at home and away during the season. Panthers would survive financially, would Steelers?? I expect the Steelers loss of another two2 fat pay days would concentrate the mind of all those in Steeler land who hate the Panthers (but not their fans money I suspect!) Regards HL

*Takes off roving reporter hat, puts on supporters hat on*
I think the Q and A is a damm good read, because it gives a good insight (all IMO) into the thoughts of someone within the game, like him or not.
I have to agree with him, in terms of having a 10 team league, because all this talk of mass merger into one league "for mergins sake" is absolute trash, and frankly has no business sense after all. At the end of the day (And I will take a quote used often by Scuff) it aint a community project. All clubs have to be profitable, in order to last. Now what I would rather have all teams under one organisation, and then have two/three divisions - which to me has more business sense/potential.
Shaggys response was very predictable, and is tiring to read the same thing over and over again. What I will say to him, in Shaggy commenting upon DS defering the hatred issue. Ive just re-read the Q n A again, and in 2 seperate parts, he accepts that he has gone over the top. Now I suppose it would have made you happier if he said something along the lines of "I admit to going over the top, and so that I can please the likes of Shaggy etc, I will be stepping down at the end of the season" but then again, you cant have everything in this world can ya!!
Also what I will say *puts back reporter hat on* is if you think its all trash, why did you not contribute to the Q and A, and try and make it not 'trash' and make it more of a better read.
I have a few ideas about another Q and A, all shall be revealed soon

Thanks to all concerned. A Very good read. I'm sure that Adey and Calle didn't hate the Panthers but they would have wanted to beat them. You always do against your old club/rivals. Just as I'm sure that nowdays they badly want to beat the Steelers. Can't wait for the next one. Cheers

A good read BDS..Well done Matey!. Like a few peeps on here, I don't think it showed up anything particulary new, but still a good read. Shaggy, I think it's you that needs to calm down mate! (Sorry). Your attitude to all things Sheffield, & Dave Simms, is as much damaging. You can never resist having a pop atb either. Dave Simms (IMHO) does it with a pinch of salt, yours seems to be with genuine hate. Chill out a bit mate. I have met Dave Simms, & had a few decent converstaions with him - I find if you treat people with respect, then as in this case, you get it back. Sure he does extract the urine, as I did back...but we both did the mature thing & laughed about it. He can't REALLY hate the Panthers anyway, coz he actually acknowledges they need us. It's a bit of banter, & should be treated as such.
