I'm not sure but Giants may play their home leg at the Dundonald Ice Bowl if they can't get into the O, they could then in theory play the first leg on the 7th and make the Panthers have to travel twice which could help the Giants if we can finish the job off in Cardiff. You forget it's the Elite league, and money talks. No Panthers vs Giants will be played at Dundonald

I'm hoping that we get ice time in the Odyssey, as a game like that would bring in big numbers, but I suppose we have to wait and see. The Giants have played a CC final game at Dundonald before, due to lack of ice time.

This will be a test for both teams. Whoever gets the second leg at home will have an advantage IMO. If we play at home first I think we'll need a 3 or 4 goal advantage from the first game for when we go over to Belfast whereas if we play at home second as long as we are within 2 I'd fancy us to grind a 2 or 3 goal win out.

Well Pies,by announcing that our home leg is the 8th March we have given the Giants a free choice of whether they want the 2nd leg advantage at home or not.
And we have done exactly the same with Coventry in the play offs, announcing we are at home on the Saturday so they can have Sundays 2nd leg at home.
Oh well...........maybe one day our beloved club will actually put home advantage/winning ahead of bums on seats and pound notes, but don't hold your breath !!!!!!!!!

I hadnt even thought about it like that. Surely with the playoffs, due to our superior league position we have to have our home game second otherwise it defeats the system?

Thats very true and yes we do have choice of which leg we want first in the play offs if we finish the higher placed team ie. 4th.
However, with Panthers it matters not.............they will simply choose whichever day will give them the biggest home leg crowd, hence they have already chosen the Saturday night which will be the first leg of the play off games !

If the club had any designs on being successful in either competition they would have done their utmost to gain any advantage whatsoever over their opponents. In two tight games that second leg home advantage could make all the difference. Sadly their actions show that they put profit before success.

Perhaps Giants should just forfeit their home game 5-0, and make it interesting....

Did they say what the date was, cos looking at the Giants fixture list after the 8th, I'm not sure how they shoe-horned that one in.

Maybe, if they have rearranged an existing fixture, as is being suggested, then we should pick another free date at the nic and carry our game forward. What's good for the goose and all that :-)

If home or away weren't decided on a flip of a coin, i will be disserpointed with the league once again.

If home or away weren't decided on a flip of a coin, i will be disserpointed with the league once again. Why? Belfast got more points in their group than we did (OK, a much easier group, but even so)... maybe that would be the criterion for deciding who gets choice of 1st or 2nd leg at home? After all, in the NHL - the league people are always saying we should look up to as Doing It Right (TM) - the division winners get automatic home ice advantage in the first 3 rounds of the Stanley Cup Play-Offs (in the last round, the team with the best league record that year gets it)... so if Belfast did better than us in their group - maybe that's the most sensible yardstick to use? Or maybe it comes down to ice-time. Who knows? Whatever the answer, I certainly don't think we should automatically assume we're being screwed if we don't get the preferred slot.

Maybe Shaggy but panthers came the same as belfast ie top of their group irrespective of points...
As stated why not have orther criteria ie games won sorted BEFORE the games were played and not made up to suit what will generate the most profit after it started?..
