I really hope Stamkos signs for Tampa! Big loss if they don't get him back

Savard is retireing and we are moving for Stamkos Even if that were anything more than just a wild guess, Boston aren't likely to be an attractive proposition for Stevie Y on the draft picks front. Remember that a successful offer sheet means that Tampa would get the Boston Bruins' first round draft picks for the next 4 years (because it's going to be a very high salary he's offered, right?)... and those are not likely to be high draft picks. Would YOU be willing to swap Stamkos for 4x 20-30th ranked draft picks? I know I wouldn't... you can bet that any offer like that, Tampa Bay would be quick to match. And if I read the figures on capgeek right, even if Savard retired the cap space that freed up for Boston would only bring them to almost the same amount of free cap space as Tampa Bay have... and Boston would be looking to fill an extra roster slot as well (they're both on 19 players at the moment). Which doesn't give them anywhere near as much flexibility as Tampa Bay. Plus, precedent would be against it. Only 1 offer sheet has been accepted in the past 10-12 years... Dustin Penner in 2007. Every other time one has been made, the owning club has matched it. Overall... even if Stamkos is going anywhere else (and that's far from certain) I doubt Boston would be in with much of a chance.

www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=371005So... the Wild sign Philly's best hitter (and one of their best PK men). I like it... between him and Cal Clutterbuck, opposition teams are in for a bruising time! ;D

Giroux's our best hitter! You'll like Powe though, he's a solid role player but he's a bit ten a penny. $1m is a bit high.

I know nothing about the guy, just going by what was said in the TSN article. I really do like the idea of another hitting machine though... Clutterbuck is one of my favourite Wild players, and if this guy can come anywhere close to his impact (literally! ;D) then I'll be very happy... As for the price... we'll see. Minnesota do have a fair bit of cap space left to play with, though... so it's probably not going to hurt them.

I'd love to see CC on the Flyers, he's brilliant and has got a FANTASTIC name.
It's always handy to have a reliable PKer tucked away on the fourth line and Powe is that. He'll never win awards for it, but you'll like the guy. Never shirks anything.

Oi - keep yer mitts off, he's staying in Minnesota! ;D Can't go wrong with a good grafter... sounds like just the kind of player to have. Now if we can just get another decent scoring forward, we might make the play-offs...

I'm really excited by the Avs off-season moves. We've gone after a bunch of BIG defenders, added depth at the forward position and made moves for a god goalie tandem that should be 1000x better than out tending last season.
I like the move for Varlamov (even though we overpayed), he's an excellent young goalie with a lot of promise and he has a great backup and mentor in JS Giguere, who is a steal at $1.25 a year for 2 years.
On the D we have #1 guy Erik Johnson with Jan Hejda (big, mean, good PKer), Ryan O'Byrne (big, mean, solid Dman), Shane O'Brien (big, mean, good hitter, good PKer), Matt Hunwick (puck mover, was awful last season), Kyle Quincey (solid 2 way Dman, solid puck mover), Ryan Wilson (BIG hitter, solid 2 way Dman), Jonas Holos (ok Dman, great shot), Cameron Gaunce (young prospect, great upside, solid frame), Stefan Elliot (prospect, WHL dman of the year, "the next Brian Rafalski") and Tyson Barrie (good prospect Eastern Conference WHL Dman of the year, solid all-round guy).
With the forwards, my opening day lines would be:
Landeskog - Stastny - Jones Mueller - Duchene - Hejduk Galiardi - O'Reilly - Kobasew Winnik - McClement - Lindstrom
(scratches- McLeod, Yip)
Unless we are plauged by the awful injury woes like last season, I think we'll be a playoff team this season. Our D is huge and will be hard for teams *cough- the sedins - cough* to play against, no more skating up the middle and having their way in our crease. And we have depth up front, with Jones (27 goal scorer, should be better with consistent line mates), Lindstrom (reigning SEL scoring champion), Mueller (apparently fully healthy after missing the whole season due to injury) to go along with the likes of Duchene, Stastny, Hejduk, O'Reilly and the #2 pick Gabriel Landeskog. Our #1 pick from last year Joey Hishon also waits in the wings and could make the team if he impresses at camp.

Avs do look very intersting, I think they are going to be my team to watch in the West, along with LA, but both are so different in why. Avs look full of promise for not only this season but for many more after if they can keep them all in the off seasons. LA on the other hand seem to be making a huge push for a big season with the trades that they have made. Richards going from Flyers to Kings is the biggest trade all off season in my opinion, cannot belive the Flyers did it, and I feel that LA have struck gold here.
I'm not usually over interested in anything to do with the Western Conference, but this year may be a little bit different for me.

Giguere will be a good addition IF he can stay injury free, which unfortunately he couldn't do in Toronto. Great player in his day but more of a locker room guy now and he should be a good mentor for Varlamov.

The first thing Giguere said when he signed, was that at this point he was happy to be a back-up and mentor to the younger guy. In fact both him and Varlamov have said the right things since being acquired. My biggest fear is the top-6 depth, Mueller is apparently healthy and ready to go, but there are question marks there and if we have another season blighted by injuries then top 6 depth is a concern. Other than that I'm really excited to see us play this season.
I agree with Andy about LA, they looked pretty stacked up front, they have good depth on D and have a great pair of goalies to lean on. Nashville lost quite a few guys, they might slip out of last years playoff place, they'll lean of Suter, Weber and Rinne even more.

I liked Giguere during his tenure as a Leaf; classy guy. I'd have had him back if it wasn't for the question mark over his groin but there's uncertainty already over our goalie position as Reimer will have to play to last season's standard and Gustavsson will have to prove his fitness too if we're to have any chance of a post season spot.

Always thought you were a Wild fan Shaggy! I am... I follow Minnesota in the West, and Tampa Bay in the East. Agreed. Tampa Bay keep their young superstar, and at a time when they've got enough other good players to mount a serious challenge. Plus they sign him at a price that could well be lower than he might have got elsewhere... another sign that Stevie Y is becoming as talented off the ice as on it? And Stamkos gets a bit of stability... but will only be 26 when this contract is up, so will probably be able to write his own ticket.

The Avs have really improved inbetween the pipes and I'm sad to see Varly leave Washington as he was a top keeper. That is when he was healthy which he wasn't all that often unfortunatly. With the Avs as my second team I'd be concerned about the possibility of both of them getting injured which given their track records could be quite likely.
