I think the writing has been on the wall regarding Kaberle for a long time, but there's a lot of Leaf fans who don't understand the club's stance; seems loyalty isn't valued anymore despite the fact Tomas clearly wants to remain a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Players come and go, but he'll be missed and I don't think a lot of our fans actually realise it.

It's strange that you're clearing house so. You're only 6 points out of a play-off spot and it's not as though you've got a first pick to be bumping up in value.

Looking good for Boston, Kaberle should be excellent. Coach Jullien is a fan and he's not often wrong.

I don't think "cleaning house" is the right terminology; trading Beauchemin for Lupul and a very good prospect was common sense as it's allowed Aulie to get a spot on the roster & he's NHL ready and won't benefit in the minors. The return for Versteeg was good as I don't buy into the notion that only good players come in the top ten of the 1st round. Mike Richards, Cam Ward, Corey Perry & Niklas Kronwall were all late 1st round picks and we now have one 1st, one 2nd and two 3rd round picks in this year's draft. His wheeling and dealing effectively has the Leafs with Schenn & Gardiner from the first round in 2008, Kadri in 2009 and whoever we select in 2011; meaning Burke has been able to address the short comings from the calamitous repercussions of last season. Kaberle will be missed but he's 33 this year and Toronto have the likes of Mikus, Blacker, Gardiner & Gunnarsson who need ice time to develop. It makes sense for both Toronto & Boston to make the deal.

Richards was in the best draft year ever though, whereas this year it's supposed to be pretty awful.
I just don't understand why you're trading your good players, you've got no reason to give up.

Toronto aren't giving up though, Burke said as much but the return for Versteeg was a good one regardless as to whether the draft this year is weak and Toronto got immediate help with the addition of Lupul and longterm help with Gardiner. Burke gets slaughtered for " giving up the future" by trading for Kessel and yet when he adds picks & prospects, he still gets criticised.

I think it's because he doesn't appear to have any long-term strategy. He goes gung-ho with the Giguere, Kessel and Phaneuf deals and then decides that no, he's going to go for picks now. It's not even as if they're particularly good picks either, the highest you'll pick at the moment could very likely be 30th.

Reports saying Kaberle to BOS in return for Colbourne, 1st rounder and a conditional pick and if true, it's a great deal for both teams.

No, they got Peverley yesterday. Shocked that Atlanta moved him, thought they were quite high on him.
Massive, massive blockbuster trade by the Blues. When was the last time a #1 was traded?

I love the deal, although it's disappointing to lose Kaberle and when you add it to the picks & prospects from the Beauchemin & Versteeg deals, it's a nice stock pile to rebuild with. I hope they're crap next year too, well as long as Burke doesn't trade our 1st rounder lol

McCabe from Panthers to Rangers for effectively a bag of pucks.
Could give us the experience on the blue line we needed heading into the stretch

It's amazing how quickly Boynton's career just derailed around 2004. He was projected to be a Bryan McCabe clone, maybe more physical but it never happened.
Decent depth addition, nowt to ring home about and you still need a goalie.

Nah we don't, not in the short-term anyway. Both Bob and Boosh are doing a stand-up job between the pipes, out-performing most other goalies.
Apparently we're going for (along with half the league) Marty Reasoner. Would be a great fit on our fourth line, but would mean moving or losing Betts.

Trade deadline day today; wonder what it'll bring, if anything for the Leafs?

Yup, you're right, NHL.com's got a big clock I'd managed to miss Wings have re-signed Jimmy Howard to a 2yr, $2.25m per according to ESPN. Caps have taken Wideman from Florida.

Dogs have traded Scottie Upshall and Sami Lepisto to Columbus for Rostislav Klesla. Disappointed to see Upshall go, put up solid numbers for us. We needed D but I'm not convinced.
Edit - we got Dane Byers too, so one for San Antonio.

Penner to the Kings from the Oil for Teubert, 2011 first and 2012 conditional (2nd or 3rd rounder).
Arnott to the Caps from the Devils for Steckel and a 2012 second rounder.

The biggest deal of the day saw John Mitchell go to NYR from Toronto for a 7th rounder.
Yikes!

would mean moving or losing Betts. Out of interest what have you made of Blair since he left Rangers - he was always one of my favourites for us - probably the best PKer in the league, and worked his guts off every shift. Every team needs a Blair Betts.
