There is still a wage cap and therefore I'm expecting and would be quite happy with a player in the mould of Sproat. The EIHL lasting many years is more important to me than starting spending wars with teams that simply cant afford it and watching the top British hockey league go down the pan for the second time in a decade.

We CAN afford it. Why should our fans be short changed?

Are you sure there is still a wage cap? I'm not talking about breaking the bank either, and I'm sure the club wouldn't put itself in that position. I'm talking about identifying what type of player we need and then getting the best available person in. And in my own opinion I would like to see someone who has been there and done it, not someone who has potential.

Let's steal Alex Kim from the caps. I think he would be awesome in a good team.

I hope not, I personally don't think he's what we need. I think it would be a backward step if we were to resign him.

Well Sproat was a grafter more than anything and Bergin is a similar player. Everybody seems to be assuming were going to announce a former NHL centre and I just don't think that will be the case.

We need the right guy who fits our system not signing someone because theyve played a few games in a league.

When Sprout was signed it was to be our first line centre. Bergin is now at best a second line grafter. We need a face of winner, Bergin isn't that. We have a fast young squad, now Bergins biggest fans will acknowledge speed is not his strong point. This is not to say Bergin is past it and can't play because he can but I don't think he is the right player to bring back. But I'm also against bringing other past players back, possibly the only two I'd be happy to see back would be Gallant and McAslan and I don't think either of them will be back. It's time to move on and stop looking at our past for answers.

Personally I've been impressed with players who are from the echl. If. Corey can find a gem from there I'd be happy. I have to agree on the alex kim from the caps - would love to see him play for us but I doubt he'd leave the caps for us - seems like to loyal a player imo

Agree about the players from the ECHL Pies.
It seems to be almost guaranteed that if you have a decent Points Per Game record in the ECHL that you will do very well in the EIHL.
Some recent examples include, Adam Calder scored at 1.03 PPG in the ECHL and then at 1.27 PPG in the EIHL.
Joe Talbot scored at 0.95 PPG in the ECHL and then at 1.21 PPG so far in the EIHL.
A couple of Panther examples are,
Dan Tessier who scored at 0.88 PPG in the ECHL and then at 1.49 PPG in the EIHL.
Jade Galbraith scored at 0.88 PPG in the ECHL and is so far scoring at 1.34 PPG in the EIHL.
Some of the other players with ECHL backgrounds mentioned in this thread are as follows.
Brad Schell = 1.24 PPG in the ECHL
Jimmy Kilpatrik = 1.15 PPG in the ECHL
Scott Mifsud = 1.08 PPG in the ECHL
Brad Rooney = 1.06 PPG in the ECHL
Gregg Johnson = 0.93 PPG in the ECHL
Chris Robertson = 0.92 PPG in the ECHL
Braehead's new signing Jordan Krestanovich had a scoring rate of 0.86 PPG in the ECHL so in theory he should be a good player in this league.

Glad you're not the coach. We need a player not a knuckle dragger. Now this guy doesnt seem so bad. Lots of AHL experience, not so many points there but great experience. He's a Center who can play Win and is over a point a game in ECHL. Adam Hobson Stats

Glad you're not the coach. StatsSgroi's a hard working, checking forward and he isn't no goon. He is genuinely a good hockey player.

Like pies said, He's not a top or even second line center/creative player. He's predominantly a knuckle dragger first and a power forward second.
We're in the need of a like for like replacement to keep the team balance. We already have Penner and Lepine for the rough stuff.

Hobson looks like the ideal player for us to get. Great ECHL stats and not having a great season atm so lots to prove.
