As said before Bergin played alot of the season injured, the foot injury which took ages to heal and then 2 fights with McMorrow that injured his shoulder, I don't think he was really right all year. Again I also think Kevin may follow Bruce just for a different challenge, or maybe he'll read all these posts and think 'what the heck'

Nice guys and former glories don't cut it though. His performances last season were generally well below par and - even taking account the fact that he played eight fewer games - the same points scoring record as Dominic D'amour on D is cak for a forward.

and not considering he played half a season injured...and the fact that he stood up against mcmorrow ... Plus 1 off season surely doesnt warrant the treatment he is getting on here now, so maybe he is getting to the end of his playing days and maybe that is why he wasnt as good this season ...then especially should we be thankful for what we got from him and not treat him like a bag of old rubbish!!!

Okay: thanks for the memories but it's not working out so well anymore (note absence of lame-and-irrelevant-yet-inflammatory hamburger pun). Still nothing there that warrants retaining him though.

Will be very surprised if Bergin isn't at the Clan next year.

Im not saying we have to retain him ....Im just saying that considering what he has given us a bit more respect might be in place!!!

The fact that Panthers missed Super Kev so much when he was injured should say it all. Get him re-signed Corey!

Lovely guy by all accounts, but hopeless player. We can do much better.

Lovely guy by all accounts, but hopeless player. We can do much better. Disagree, Bergin is far far away from being a hopeless players. Sign him up and he can get on with the role he's best at this season rather than being a part time enforcer.

I agree, Bergin is probably the best player I have seen at going in the corners in the attacking zone and digging out the puck, something we have tended to lack over quite a time. Id be very happy if Bergin came back, with him and Penner we would certainly have enough toughness (and Defence cover) and leave the rest of of the recruitment to build our out and out goalscoring and points production.

Lovely guy by all accounts, but hopeless player. We can do much better. I like to think we can do better, but if we can't sign him up. Not great infront of net imo, very slow. gets in the corners (one of the few on the team), fought the tough guys, but was no enforcer. We all love Bergy, but TBH he was average last term.

Yep, my point was that we MISSED him because he plays so many roles (Mr Versatile) - he protects his team mates, he takes on the 'wind up merchants' regardless of whether he's going to win or not, he scores THAT goal when you least expect it, he sets up his team mates to score - often with little knock on passes that are so clever they go unnoticed, he gets in the corners and digs, he gives 100% EVERY game. Yes, he's a crowd pleaser (and we definately need some characters in the team) and yes he seems a nice guy - end of the day, he's got the passion and dedication that Panthers desperately need. He may not be as speedy as some of the 'yonger' players, but he's got the intellegence and reads the game so well and I for one, would miss the 'Bergin Bounce'. Definately re-sign him before one of the other teams gets there first with a better offer!

Sorry Brixham but imho he is only average at all the roles you claim, he is a pretty poor enforcer (zukesfan, dodyfan? comments?) he is a pretty poor defenceman (showed with a distinct lack of defence when he played, not that we noticed that much of a drop though!). Wind up merchants dont tend to be tough they tend to be all mouth a la sacratini so hardly a glowing indictment that he is prepared to take them on. He scored less goals than all the other imports on the team so again not exactly a strong point of his. Mmm a crowd pleaser hard to define that one, he doesnt really score he doesnt win many fights and he cant make that incredible pass that leads to a goal, not quite sure where you get crowd pleaser from. Nice guy, ah that one, who cares, i am not bothered if the players are the nastiest people on the planet, if they win on the ice for nottingham panthers thats all i care about their home life to be honest. And you then brought up speedy, right he makes 3 legged donkeys look fast and has the turning circle of an ocean liner hardly good attributes of a hockey player. Might have a good hockey brain but he certainly hasnt got good hockey legs or hands for that matter and we saw the "bergy bounce" how many times last season? One handful springs to mind, think i would rather see the weapon X ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) . Imho other teams are welcome to him there has to be better who can fill the role we would need next season which i suspect will be limited to a secondary thug role and dig in the corners. With hopefully a much better defence we wont need a part time part good defenceman to fill in when he is having a torrid time in his preferred role...

He scored less goals than all the other imports on the team so again not exactly a strong point of his. Actually, according to the EIHL website, he scored 3 more goals than Marty Gascon did... and did it in 9 fewer games. (He also scored just 1 goal less than Bruce Richardson... and Bruce played in 6 more games) So you're a bit off with your figures there, Tex...

point still there though shaggy lets look at total points then eh...
As you know shaggy Gascon was brought in as a playmaker and the role Bruce played was again a specialised one.. Either way wouldnt have any of the 3 back personally...

The goalscoring issue for me is that he scored only one goal in twenty odd away League games and where did we lose the title last year ? .....
