Having not been to the game I will reserve judgement. That is however an awful lot of powerplay without a single return and eight straight defeats. Sort it out Mr Ellis, before it's too late.

Well.....WE CANT SCORE DONT LOOK LIKE SCORING AND DONT SEEM TO HAVE AN IDEA HOW TO SCORE! Ok well Koenig made some cracking saves but even so we had enough chances to bury a few...the same old story we concede and our heads go down and we look rubbish!
We had so many powerplays which we looked hopeless on (bar about 3), Blaz was excellent tonight and i think should of got MOM even though Evan had a good game.
Coventry arent anything that special but have an excellent netminder, we seemed to out muscle them but time and time again we failed to make the most of it.
I dont know if this is anything but when i walked past the dressing room in the 2nd interval Simoes was sat outside on his own and during MOM awards he was stood on his own whilst the rest of the team were centre ice?
The Skydome has lost its noise! Part from last 5 mins they were so quiet!

We had plenty of shots tonight that were way off target, and unfortunately, for those that were on target, Koenig was having a great game No team wants to lose eight in a row, and team morale must be pretty low right now. And if you lose the belief in your ability to win, it only gets worse. There's no single person to blame - over a period of time, all have been at fault, from sloppy defending to inaccurate shooting. But then again, those same players have previously had cracking games when all went well. There are already rumours of players maybe going, but we were perfectly happy with our players for the first few games, so will a replacement be any better? It's over to the coach, heck maybe even a sports psychologist to make these guys believe in themselves again. They're not that bad......are they?

WELL at least i know McAslan isn't fit yet as i nearly ran him over on the way home, he tried to run but kinda hobbled instead wouldn't want to hit shmyr with by car though, he would leave a hell of a dint onto the game, why the hell did they carry on shooting on koenigs glove side? koenig overall isn't a great netminder but if you shoot glove side he will stop you all night as he has and amazingly fast glove, can only remember him having to save one on his blocker side from one of the best games yesterday to watch to one of the dullest with no one seeming interested in trying to get into the game

its just what he does
wants his own space to go through what he doing. stancok sat on the bench for 10mins of each period break when he was with it, its just what some players do.
simoes stands on his own every game during the awards again just what he does, he also never skates round appaluding the fans

Well, what can i say! Not a bad road performance but nothing special either, we have definately lost our spark somewhere along the way. My thoughts on last nights game:- Our powerplay is extremely poor!! the shots being taken were either directly at Koenig or wide where the goal post needed to be moved 2 foot over to even consider this to be an actual shot!! Performances - Neilson was awful, thought he was a real good addition to the team when announced and during the first few games he showed his skill, whats happened? Last night he was caught out of position on numerous occassions and then didn't appear to have the speed to get back to cover. Then the incident when the puck was about 10ft in the air in the attacking zone and he didn't know where it had gone when it landed directly in front of him but he was looking behind for what seemed like ages, would have been funny but it just summed up the way he's been playing. What was up with Mr Clarke last night? I don't know if it was just me but the impression given as he was on the ice skating round that he wasn't actually bothered or interested in this game, now whether this is down to low esteem/lack of confidence i do no know but at times i wanted to give him a quick kick up the a*&^ and tell him to get a grip!! Apart from the two players mentioned i don't really personally feel that anyone else last night had a bad game but that is my opinion! i'm often told by people that i see a different game to them but i don't care, we all see games in a different light! Would like to finish by saying Mike Rees, Steve Simoes and Jan Kraijeck had a good game, Rees played solid and took no messing from the Blaze players, thought he pulled a blinder when he drew Wales to a penalty! Steve Simoes, plays with his heart on his shoulder at all times, his effort is faultless. a real pleasure to watch Mr Thompson the referee, well watching the game it appeared he didn't really have a clue as to what was going off at times IMHO, however i hold my hat off to him for giving the lovely Mr Tait a 10 min misconduct which he so rightly talked himself into I hope our "team" come through this lull and i hate to say it but if changes have to made in certain areas to improve our team i'm all for it but i hope that doesn't happen, but look at the difference a little shuffling has done at Newcastle (and i wouldn't have blamed all there poor results on a certain CC, not that i'm biased ) Well feel better for that now, heres to a depressing day in the office!!!

I also didn't go to the game, but you even have Blaze fans saying that Corey Nielson was diabolical last night and that we should free up his wage. Nielson is really in the doldrums at the moment, a bit like myself and I do not know if there is some kind of rift or even dissnetion going on behind locker room doors, but something needs sorting immediately. What about Nielson as a Power Forward?? Lets not forget that Blaze are a classy side and although a defeat is a defeat it was only by a goal. In God We trust Jazza

You didnt miss much if you didnt go, same old hockey from the last week
I went home stressed to tears last season when newcastle shut us out 1-0 after we shot glove side on Koenig all night, last night, Koenig, 1-0 loss. Not acceptable im afraid, you plan a gameplan bearing in mind the opposition and the netminder. We obviously hadnt.
basingstoke did saturday obviously

It's abundently clear that Neilson is either a) not the player we all expected (spin over win again?), or b) not settling into British ice hockey whatsoever.
I've had doubts from as early as the opening Bison league game where he made it clear that challenging opposing forwards in our own defensive zone wasn't his cup of tea. His inability to pick up rushing Forwards cost us two goals that day, and the problem doesn't seem to be going away. Sadly he's good for a goal a game for our opponents, and for someone of his seniority, he's not giving us anything at the back.
I hope Meyers isn't watching and learning too much from Corey, it might instill bad habits into young Danny which we don't want!

My take on the game has been mostly covered in previous posts. The main disappointment is the PP. We were hopeless on Saturday and even worse against Blaze. It really got to a point when the 'move a bit closer to the edge of your seat, we're on the PP' just didn't raise hopes anymore. They didn't look like scoring (PP or no PP). I do think Koenig is a top quality N/M, but he wasn't troubled enough. He made one or two decent saves, but easy enough for him.
In fact, if it wasn't for Blaze's woeful finishing, we'd have lost by a bigger margin. They carved out a number of clear chances, some of which Lindsay saved but, bizarrely, most of which were off target.
The effort seemed to be there, but very little cohesion led to very few chances being created.
Much has been said about Nielson. If someone has to go then it has to be him. His defending was aways questionable, but now that he's not offering any threat going forward either then, unless something dramatic happens, I think it's time for change.
Meyers and Rees were sound, and the effort of Simoes and Emersic was good.....although, as on most occasions, to very little effect.
Not many positives at the moment. Again, as someone above said, it's down to ME / CC to turn this situation around by doing whatever it takes.

Well, that's confirmed it for me, this team doesn't have enough balls to win the league, let alone ability.

The Skydome has lost its noise! Part from last 5 mins they were so quiet! And the quietest area was at our end......... "Supporter: somebody who supports a cause, person, idea, course of action, political party, or sports team" "To Support: to give assistance or comfort to somebody in difficulty or distress, to give encouragement to somebody or something by being present at an event" Maybe we should ask ourselves what the one constant has been through the last unproductive years - us. Standing by for the flaming.........

To be honest, I was fully expecting the Blaze to finish ahead of us in the Elite League so given that they're looking over our shoulder, I can see them swallowing us up soon and heading off to catch Belfast before they vanish into the sunset.
I look at Calder and Carlson and doubt that there's a better pair of forwards AND linemates on any Elite League team's roster.

Agreed Although against panthers (and for the first time this season) they were split up... Which is probably why Blaze only scored the one!

I'm not too worried considering one of the best players ever to wear black and gold sat on a stool outside the dressing room smoking fags every period break in years gone by!

I disagree slightly about Calder and Carlson, I think they are slightly overrated, id put Dutiame,Awada and Ruff ahead of them but as a pairing they do play well.
One thing for those who were there, how many times did we go offside??!It was ridiculous

Post by BlackburnHawk on Oct 31, 2006 11:21:28 GMT
And it's mostly Stevens who's offside.
Don't know if it's all his fault or the bloke carrying the puck not passing / skating quickly enough !!!

I thought that BH, hes not playing well with Clarkey at all, IMO they need breaking up and Stevens needs to carry the puck more himself

yeah on offside was funny though stevens passes to shyrm on half way as stevens is on the blue line and we just knew that it was gonna be offiside as stevens could of got to the goal line faster than shymr could get to the blue line
