Cook made 2 passes all night tape to tape in the offensive zone (3 in total apparently). Sorry but that means his passing is around 10% which for an import player is nothing short of shocking. Not having a rant or anything, but how people who watch 60minutes of the guy coughing up the puck can say hes a good player is incredible. What I wouldnt give to watch the game with such naiveness. He put the points up, but if he would just slow himself down a little (like he did in Sheffield last week) he can bring so much more to the team. 4points last night? Thats impressive of course, but if he slowed down and made plays happen the other guys on the team would spend more time in the offensive zone with possesion of the puck.
Onto the game, we made hard work of it but always looked like we would grind out the result with their short bench. What is with our 2nd period displays though? Its getting beyond a joke now!
Rumun was a little shakey, he doesnt play well with time on the puck to think about the play, he plays much better under pressure and at a higher tempo. Also, he again was harshly called (hooking in the first) however, come playoffs he will get away with a lot more and the tempo will suit his game. I cant see how Corey can cut him going into a playoff competition where defence, possesion and momentum are paramount, he brings a lot on those 3 fronts.
Also, since Oldman has given credit to Jade (surprising considering the amount of times he pulled out of going for the puck, when he was favourite to get there) Il give credit to Ferrara. Probably his best game this season. His puck carrying and passing were a level above what hes been doing recently. However, that really suggests hes good when hes not under any pressure which is no good going into the playoffs.
Bruces PK work was amazing, the best Penalty killing since Bobyck,Hadden and Weber! I think Bergin surprised himself at how harshly he tripped him going to collect his award though lol

Spence - you're way off about Jade. He is easily one of our top three players and second only behind Tessier in his playmaking abilities.
His passing and finishing and skill on the puck is something to be marvelled at. I think people at times simply watch him standing around mid-ice waiting to cause some damage to the opposition. Not all our players need to be hack em and slash em all action power-forwards. Some can simply play a devastating pass or a piece of skill and goal and that's fine by me.
In footballing terms think Berbatov or Teddy Sheringham!
I would sign both Cook and Galbraith for next season.
Try watching Jade while he's on the puck over the next couple of games, you'll see how much ability he has.
Also, just to remind everyone about Corey Neilson. Two seasons ago everyone thought he was rubbish, I argued his case as you could see how good he was, it got to the playoffs and he was on fire. He then had an amazing season last year. I think Jade will only get better - and that will be frightening.

**Oldman - Did you also notice that (was it Andersson?) one player in Vipers side also has been short of the logo on his shirt all season. The seamstress guild of machinists must be on strike I guess without us knowing this season. **The actual Goals scored in the Elite League.( before this weekend)- Placings arrived by Points total, therefore Tessier top Dan Tessier 42 17 Corey Neilson 44 13 Brendan Cook 44 21 Jade Galbraith 42 17 Kevin Bergin 44 21 Bruce Richardson 44 11 Johan Molin 36 20 Matt Myers 44 12 David Clarke 32 24 Goals only...NOW Cook/Clarke 24 Molin........... 22 Bergin......... 21 Galbaith...... 18 Tessier........ 17

I think the comparison of Jade with Berbatov is a good one, he waits for the others to give him the puck/ball in this case and then will do some magic and score a wonder goal, there is no doubting Jades talent, his skill level and puck control is fantastic there is no question but his seeming unwillingness to get his hands dirty and 'get stuck in' is what gets people on his back but i guess thats his way and we'll just have to get used to it.

I agree completely about Galbraith's ability... it's his effort and commitment that raise serious doubts. When it comes to pure skill at puck-handling, he's probably the best on the team (although Dan Tessier might have something to say about that!). His shooting - as last night's goal showed - is usually precise... his penalty shots that I've seen have been absolute beauties. His passing is also by far the most accurate on the team... although his passes almost always seem to be a bit too hard - his team-mates appear to have difficulty in controlling them upon receipt, which is frustrating. Perhaps not totally his fault, but annoying nonetheless. It's just his incessant imitation of a traffic bollard that gets my goat. The sheer number of turnovers, lost pucks, failed interceptions, missed passes and squandered scoring chances - all because Galbraith so often seems to be lagging behind on the play. I don't know for certain about his fitness level, so I won't pass judgement there (he looks somewhat unfit, but looks can be deceiving). But whatever it is... something is holding him back big-style. This one's a real head-scratcher. 20 goals is nothing to be sneezed at - and 9 of those have been against the top 3 rivals (Belfast, Coventry & Sheffield) so like with Brendan Cook, it's not as if he can only score on the lower-ranked teams. So in one sense... yes, he's putting up the numbers. I can't help thinking that it could be so much more though... Is he Corey Neilson Mk2? An inconsistent first season, a storming play-offs and then an impressive second season? (assuming he's brought back). I don't know. Do I even want him back next season? Again - I don't know. Like I said... a real head-scratcher.

I think it's a no-brainer (to bring him back) after his points tally this season - assuming he's not the highest paid player on the team (which I doubt) and to keep everyone happy, he should up the tempo by a marker.
That said, everyone conveniently forgets that he's put himself about more than a lot of other players this season. No-one remember his fight near the start of the season?

In quite a few games lately we have scored more goals in the final period, i think this could be down to our fitness levels, i think the pre season regime has worked well.

The difference between Bebatov and Galbraith is that Bebatov is a world class player who can stroll around because he is good enough, much like Cantona. Galbraith is a half decent player who can't afford to do that. I could name plenty of players in the EIHL who are more skillful and hard working.

on skill alone theres not many in this league more gifted than Galbraith, he seems to control the puck with ridiculous ease at times where other players have to work harder at it.
putting the effort in: i agree with

Jade, reminds me of a certain little chap at Manchester, strolls around at a leisurely pace, keeps well away from any rough stuff, doesnt like to get hit, then someone gives him the puck and bang he does some damage with a lovely pass or an accurate shot and we score !
What would we all give for Tony Hand on our team ?
Four months ago i would have fired Jade, but im glad we kept him now. As for next year,i would bring him back but tell him,you get here FIT and you play HARD every game and if you arn't/dont you are on the first plane home and you are payng for your own ticket. That should sort out whether his heart is in it or not !!

Missing the fighting now and it's starting to get to me. Basingstoke next week and something tells me with how short benched they are nothing will happen but then obviously Sheffield in a fortnight that must break the fight deadlock of 2009. Overall, I really enjoyed the 3rd period, the 1st and 2nd period went without much recognition of anything in particular, apart from Ndur chirping at Payette all night. I was surprised they didn't fight as Payette hardly got any shifts anyway tbh. Galbraith is an awesome player when he wants to be, remember the Belfast game he got his hat trick. I'd sooner compare him to Ronaldo (Brazillian version). He works when he wants to and is excellent when in possesion. Only problem is his overall work rate and size, he should be checking alot more often. But take nothing away from him, an outstanding player.

payette must not have wanted any of rumun himself as he fought macmillan after 2 mins tonight against belfast so being short benched not an excuse.
i think cornish will fight because he has the frustration and rage of an 18 game losing streak lol

Well Vipers did us a favour tonight and beat Belfast 6-3. Looks like they were saving the rough stuff as well with Payette, McAllister and Campbell all having fights.

Did the Vipers do us a favour or not Shorty ? Seems very odd that the poor team we played last night could beat a very good Belfast side who had a day off yesterday. Maybe the Giants fancy 4th hoping to get Phoenix in the play offs and thus avoiding Cardiff.
But,i seem to remember last year belfast took their foot off the gas,got Newcastle and promptly lost.............dangerous game to play trying to pick your opponent for the play offs !!!

Panthers took their foot off the gas at the end of last season, and didnt make the last four either.
I don't know how anyone can predict who is going to finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th with the amount of games remaining.
I want Panthers to finish as high as possible, and that means us winning as many games as we can and those around us losing as many.

Not sure why Likit has no sponsor patches, but it does look poor - obviously he was the last one in. The rough stuff may have been saved, as the Vipers v Giants matches have been given a fair bit of rivalry this year - last nights match at the MRA was billed as 'the circus coming to town.'
