Great comeback in the final round. He had to end it or he'd have easily lost on points.
I hope he gets plenty of rcognition for this. 10% of Button's would be nice.

I am proud to have gone to the same school as Froch, and when his brother comes in the pub next he shall be getting a drink on me! He is by far and away the best fighter in the world at the moment. OK his is very very unorthodox and really should learn to keep them hands up, but its his style, and at 31 he isnt going to change the way he fights!
Taylor is a world class boxer, and Carl took everything Taylor threw at him. Carls chin can never be called in the question again, solid as a rock and will keep taking and taking and taking. That 12th round, Froch knew he had to pull something big out the bag, and he does, thats what a top quality sportsman does! All this chat about he would have lost on points.... maybe so, but he didnt, he won by TKO, he got his TKO by going that extra mile and further than Taylor and taking the fight to him! There have been hundreds of times in the world of sport when a sportsman/sportswoman or team have been 2nd place until the final stage and gone on to win, this doesnt make them any less of a champion!
Quite simply, Carl "The Cobra" Froch is the City of Legends new legend!

Al this talk of being luck i won t accept, maybe because there were only 15 secs left... but why didn t taylor finish off carl when he had the chance? Hes a year younger than carl so was it fitness on his part that he couldn t keep up his form of the earlier rounds? anyway, carl has fought in this style for years and won t change unfortunately, mccracken was giving him a rollocking after every bell lol if his defense improves, he ll be unbeatable, that i am sure. He s earnt respect now for going on foreign soil and giving it a go against one of the states better fighters. Incidentally , there will be a re match, but probably not their next fight.

What COULD have happened means nothing, what did happen is Carl flew the flag for both the UK and NOTTINGHAM. He has done us all proud, showing the kind of resolve and courage that only true champions have.
Make no mistake this man is a legend and someone who will be rightfully welcomed home by a full City Ground on Sunday afternoon. He may create some divides, probably because he aligns himself so closely to the Reds and Panthers but who cares, the guy is passionate about where he is from and is immensely proud to have represented his city in this way. Would be good to see him back in the UK for his next fight, but if it's another US date then i'll look forward to it all the same.
Well done Carl, you did us all proud. Nottingham's latest genuine GREAT.

Im going to the game on sunday against the saints anyway and im hoping the club invite him onto the pitch before the game so he can show off his belt again. He deserves it.
I think all this negatively towards carl is because hes from Nottingham and theres a inklin of jealousy and denial that he is potentially a very good fighter , who never gives in. Not many boxers would recover from the start Carl had thats for sure .
He ll still be world champion by the time panthers season re starts so hopefully he ll be on the ice for the charity shield game too so 6,500 fans applaud him.

i thought he was very lucky to have stood through a knockdown and being shaky afterward, lucky to have a tired opponent who ran out of steam at the start of the 11th, and very lucky that he was still on his feet with enought in the tank for the last two rounds.
as far as entertainment, it was poor up until the 10th. i dont like one sided fights, i find them to be boring. i felt in the early rounds froch was too cocky, and rather undisciplined (even though i know its his style to drop his hands, you'd think he'd learn after getting knocked down to keep his guard up).
having said that, the last two rounds were bloody amazing. that is how i had envisioned the fight to be from the start. and i guess that would be worth the money to see the fight in those rounds alone. i understand froch has stated he wanted to tire his opponent out and stamina would prevail, but he did it oh so unconvincingly.
i guess this has all been said before (sorry i havent checked).
i presume someone will accuse me of being jealous because i think this fight wasnt one of his good performances as it wasnt up to his usual standard.

Not many boxers would recover from the start Carl had thats for sure . some would say that all the positivity is only because he is a hometown boy. works both ways. its always made me wonder why people accuse others of being jealous of professional athletes. it seems like a rubbish answer to an opinion you dont like the sound of.

no luck about it , he hit carl with his best shots and carl hit him harder. Points means nothing if the fight is stopped, every guy is one punch away from defeat in the ring!
Not bothered if he is a local or if he came from places between cornwall to john o groats he is a brit and a world champ and that is something we can only celebrate!
Don't forget as well he took this american guy on in his own territory, not many world champs take that risk especially for their first defence!

What i hate most and find weird is a lot of my mates hate Froch for some reason and there seems to be a lot of people in Notts feel the same too. I cant help but think he's doing himself no favours by slagging off Calzaghe at every possible opportunity, he really really does need to forget about him..

Froch needs to sort his guard out if he wants to stand a chance against Calzaghe or any other top fighter IMO.
Great finish though and a good win in America.

Perhaps they think Froch is arrogant - he comes accross like that at times. But then he's entitled to be - talking big seems to be common amongst boxers but he obviously believes in himself and keeps delivering. Quite agree Adam - he really should move on.

Anyway Calzaghe says NO!

What I find funny about this and boxing in general is that if a black fighter, escpecially an american, says what Froch says no one bats an eyelid, yet if a white guy from England does it people think its arrogance. lol As you say, being a boxer you HAVE to be very confident in your own abilities. Froch did great and in the first 4 or 5 rounds looked very nervous. Considering he took his first title defense in america........and his opponent refused to come and fight in England............I think it says alot about Froch.

Looks like Froch may be taking on Lucien Bute on the 5th September, but would prefer a fight against Hopkins!! click

Tickets for the BIG fight are now on sale. Got mine sorted (Block 15 - row C). It's gonna be a late...LATE night folks. With the main event not due to start till just after 2.00am (Due to the fight being shown live in the USA) Here's the e-mail I received about the fight earlier today from 'LiveFight'. Super Six World Boxing Classic: FROCH vs. DIRRELL Tickets on Sale Today! Hennessy Sports17th August, 2009 WBC Super Middleweight Champ Carl Froch is expecting a full house at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham on October 17th when he kicks off his Super Six World Boxing Classic campaign against unbeaten American star Andre Dirrell. Tickets for the event promoted by Hennessy Sports and Gary Shaw Productions are on sale from 1pm today and Froch says he's delighted to be back in action in his hometown as he kicks off the Super Six tournament. Should Froch win the series outright the Dirrell bout will be the first of 5 fights that would see him eventually recognised as one of the best boxers in the World pound for pound. It's a case of first things first for Froch though as he looks to make a second successful defence of his World title against the brash, switch hitting Dirrell who is unbeaten in 18 professional fights following an amateur career that saw him win bronze at the 2004 Olympic Games. "I can't wait to get back in that ring at the Trent FM Arena," revealed the unbeaten Froch who will be returning to the scene of his World title triumph over Jean Pascal last December. "I had to go into the lions den last time out to defend my title against Jermain Taylor in the U.S. but the tables are turned this time around and it's Dirrell who's coming to my home town. "He needs to realise that he's going to be coming into the snake pit and he'll be getting the full force of the Cobra's venom. I'm going to be putting it on him from all angles and hitting him with everything. I'll have him wishing he stayed at home." Dirrell has other ideas and believes he is the man to ruin Froch's unbeaten record. "Tell Carl Froch and all of his fans that on October 17th there will be a new Sheriff of Nottingham - ME!" declared Dirrell. "The Cobra is going to be eating a lot of leather when we meet. I'm going to knock his fangs down his throat. Cobra my foot, garden snakes are more dangerous than he is! He's just a little worm." Although he travelled the World during a glorious amateur career Dirrell has yet to fight outside the U.S. as a professional and Froch believes he's in for a shock. "It's going be a real rude awakening for him because he'll never have sampled anything like the atmosphere he'll experience in front of 8,000 of my fans," said Froch. "He can talk all he wants about travelling the world as an amateur but this is the pro game and he's coming to my hometown, looking to take away my World title - he's got no chance!" Dirrell has already boasted that Froch will be his easiest fight in the Super Six tournament but the Cobra isn't buying the American's bravado. "Dirrell obviously thinks he's a lot better than he really is. He's a big mouth and he's loud and brash but now he's going to have to back up all that big talk now. "He's been brought up the American way so mentally he believes he's better than everybody else. That's all well and good when you're winning but when the pressure comes on he'll find out the truth and it will be a very painful lesson. "Once I start hitting him the doubts will start to creep in and before long he'll realise that he's out of his depth against a World champion at the peak of his powers defending his title in his own backyard." Froch has watched Dirrell in action but says he's seen nothing to trouble him. "He's a decent fighter," admitted the champion. "He does the basics well and he's got fast hands but speed means nothing if you're not in range. "To be honest I'm not thinking about him too much at all. I'm concentrating on my own performance. I've already been working hard in the gym with my trainer, Rob McCracken. I'll let Rob devise a strategy and I'll follow it in the ring. "I'm coming off two great wins against proven World Champions so Dirrell doesn't worry me. In fact I bet when he lies in bed at night and stares at the ceiling it's already starting to sink in that he's going to have to get in there with the Cobra. He's probably having nightmares about it already every night but trust me it will be nothing compared to the nightmare that will face him on October 17th. Tickets for Froch V Dirrell are go on sale from the Trent FM Arena, Nottingham Box Office at 1pm today priced £30, £45, £125 and £400. To purchase tickets call the Box Office on 08444 124 624 or visit www.trentfmarena.co.uk. Tickets are also available from Ticketline on 0844 888 4402 or via www.hennessysports.com. Doors open at the Trent FM Arena from 7:30pm on the night with an action packed undercard getting underway at 8:30pm ahead of [glow=red,2,300]the main event which will start shortly after 2am.[/glow]
