Tonight's results: Solway Sharks 5 Billingham Stars 2. The Telford Tigers v Solihull Barons was abandoned at 30.54 mins. Barons only goalie ejected from the game and he apparently refused to hand over his kit to a player to take his place therefore after the mandatory 10 mins for the change the game came to an early finish. At the time of the incident Telford were lading the game 3-0. The Lions put up a resolute battle against the Blackburn Hawks with goalie Tom Hovell putting in another great performance ending with a 96.08 percentage. The Lions were, as expected, missing a number of senior players with the youngsters contributing about half of the team icing tonight. As was also expected the Lions lost the game but kept the score down to a massively creditable 2-0. It was not until nearly the 39th minute that the breakthrough occurred for the Hawks and that single goal was not added to until the 48th minute. I must admit with the number of up and coming players facing a vastly more experienced team I expected a few more goals. Tom Hovell faced a lot of rubber tonight and kept the team very much in the game. Matt Bradbury, although not coaching the winning side, must feel more than happy with his team's performance tonight. A lot of potential showing through and with a season under their belts these guys cannot help but improve. A great shout out for the seniors that turned out for the team tonight. Next game 6th January 2018 once more on the road against Billingham Stars followed by a home game against Deeside Dragons on Sunday 7th January. Merry Christmas and a productive 2018 hockey wise to the team, supporters, backroom team, and to the Panthers Lair.

Following the abandoned game between the Telford Tigers and the Solihull Barons on 23rd December, and with the Tigers 3-0 up at the time the game has been awarded to the Telford team. The Barons have been deducted two points and fined £500-00 with the fine being suspended unless a second offence occurs during the season. The Solihull Barons level 2 bench coach at the game has received a two match suspension.

Games in the Moralee Conference over the Christmas period.
29 December: Sheffield Steeldogs 5 Blackburn Hawks 0. This consolidates the 'dogs' position at the head of the conference. 30 December: Telford Tigers 4 Solway Sharks 5. An overtime win for the Sharks that dented the Tigers ambitions, for now. Billingham Stars 4 Blackburn Hawks 3. The Stars move above the Lions by one point. A win at last for the Stars.
The Lions are two points ahead of the Deeside Dragons with plenty of games for things to change. Next Saturday the Lions travel to Billingham in what will be a tough encounter as the Stars have tasted success at last with the win over the Hawks. Deeside do not have a game on Saturday but travel to Nottingham to face the Lions on Sunday 7th January.

Weekend Games: Saturday: Solway Sharks v Whitley Warriors, Sheffield Steeldogs v Deeside Dragons and Billingham Stars v Nottingham Lions. On form both the Sharks and the Steeldogs should come out on the winning side in their games. The Lions will no doubt have a rather tougher time in trying to get a point or two against the Stars who hit form against the Blackburn Hawks with a win that had been a long time coming. Their confidence will be high as they seek to put a greater points difference between themselves and the Lions. Again it will depend on how many of the more senior Lions travel for this one. It maybe another long run out for the youngsters with plenty of ice time on offer.

Tonight's Results: Solway Sharks 7 Whitley Warriors 3, Sheffield Steeldogs 14 Deeside Dragons 2. Billingham Stars 5 Nottingham Lions 3. The Lions, as expected, were a few senior players down facing a full Stars team who were quicker out of the blocks taking the first period 2-0. The remaining two periods ended even at 1- 1 and 2-2. Overall the team gave a good account of themselves but missed the extra power that some of the missing players might have added on the night. Scorers: Cameron Pywell 1+1, Marc Levers 1+0, Joe Humphries 1+0, Paul Stanley 0+1, Joseph Gretton 0+1. MOM Cameron Pywell.
Sunday's Games: Whitley Warriors v Solihull Barons, Sheffield Steeldogs v Solway Sharks, Telford Tigers v Billingham Stars, and Nottingham Lions v Deeside Dragons. I would go for the Steeldogs and the Tigers for home wins as they fight a tight battle for the top slot. The Warriors must fancy their chances against the Barons and will be looking for a couple of points from this weekend. Deeside Dragons will be desperate for points when they pay their second visit to Nottingham to face the Lions. On their last appearance here the Dragons went home having suffered a 8-1 defeat and they will certainly be seeking some redress this time around. The Dragons secured a new signing in netminder Louis Edwards from Coventry Blaze but with a quite long history in hockey with the likes of Telford, Solihull, and Nottingham. He will be hoping to shut the gate to help his new team carve out a positive result. Face off 7.30pm. No Panthers, in Nottingham tomorrow, so why not give the Lions some support. You are always welcome, and a cheap night of hockey.

Tonight's Results: Whitley Warriors 5 Solihull Barons 3, Sheffield Steeldogs 3 Solway Sharks 0, Telford Tigers 8 Billingham Stars 2. No shock results with the Tigers and the Steeldogs still fighting it out to be either 'top cat' or 'dog'. Whitley will be happy with a steady win tonight. The Lions v Dragons game was a very late affair as the game was held up by an under 18s game which was hardly fair for the travelling team. The game itself was dominated by the Lions as the Dragons were well and truly brought down by an eventually rampant home team. The final score 12-2. Scorers: Marc Levers 4+3,Paul Stanley 3+2, Joe Humphries 2+1, Ruskin Hughes 2+1, Elliott Perrin 1+3, Jake Fisher 0+3, Luke Thomas 0+1, Adz Andrews 0+1, Cameron Pywell 0+1, Ben Wood 0+1, and Luke Smith, back from injury, 0+1. Period Scores: 1-1/7-1/4-0. Alan Levers had his second run out this season in goal giving Tom Hovell a well earned rest having played at Billingham last night. A good night's workout for the Lions and a very welcome couple of points.

Amazing result! Well done to everyone involved. Absolutely... especially under the circumstances! The Lions were missing a few key players (the Pniok brothers for a start) and the junior game beforehand badly overran... somehow the NIC 'forgot' that there was a Lions game, so no security assigned... Zamboni issues... etc etc. What a mess! LOL The first period was actually fairly quiet... ended 1-1, few penalties. It was the second period where it started to go bonkers... the Lions winning that period 7-1, including ex-Panther #16 Marc Levers getting a natural hat-trick! A bit of the rough stuff, but discipline didn't really start to go out of the window until the third, which the Lions won 4-0 and saw one player from each team kicked out. A very nice win, though... and puts the Lions up 2-1 in the series against Deeside. Just one more away game against the Dragons - the only Lions fixture this season still without a date, not sure what the issue is down at the Deeside rink.

Weekend Games: Saturday: Solihull Barons v Telford Tigers, Hull Pirates v Whitley Warriors, and Solway Sharks v Blackburn Hawks. Form strongly suggests wins for the Pirates and the Sharks. The Barons will be wanting to put last week's loss to the Warriors behind them, but with the Tigers really beginning to show that they are definitely title contenders the Barons have got it all to do. This looks to be an intriguing contest with the Tigers having probably got the edge in this one.
Sunday: Whitley Warriors v Hull Pirates, Billingham Stars v Deeside Dragons, and Blackburn Hawks v Nottingham Lions. The Pirates have enough fire power to take the 4 points over the weekend against the Warriors. The Dragons are desperate for points and the Stars have slipped up on a number of occasions this season but with close wins over both the Hawks and the Lions recently they should have enough to take this game. Complacency can allow the underdogs the chances that they seek therefore the Stars will really need to focus to pocket the points. The Stars are presently just one point ahead of the Lions and also need points to pull clear. The Lions definitely have it all to do against the mid table Hawks who will still be smarting over their recent 4-3 loss to the Stars. Realistically the Hawks season will be to stay in touch in the race for the top but maybe the play offs will be the eventual outcome for this Blackburn team. The Last time the two teams met the Hawks took the points in a tight game with Tom Hovell in the Lions net facing a lot of rubber. The Lions net will certainly be under siege once again and that's a certainty.

Tonight's Results: For the Telford Tigers edge was not enough as the Barons nicked it 3-2. The Whitley Warriors made the Hull Pirates sweat a good bit tonight but the higher placed team took it 4-3. Hull, of course, play at Whitley tomorrow evening and might find the going a bit tougher. Well the Sharks sank their teeth into the Hawks tonight as they took the game 9-2. Blackburn Hawks will certainly be ready on Sunday as they will be seeking a bit more respect following the demolition job inflicted upon them by the Solway Sharks this evening. Could well be a very physical affair when they meet the Lions.

Tonight's Results: The Whitley Warriors missed out once again but got one point as the Hull Pirates took a 3-4 win in overtime. Billingham Stars blitzed the 12 player Deeside Dragons as the Welsh side conceded 14 goals from 76 shots and with the Stars achieving the shut out.
Blackburn Hawks as expected came out determined following their big loss last night taking the game 7-2. Period Scores: 3-0/3-1/1-1. Scorers: Paul Stanley 1+0, Cameron Pywell 1+0, Adz Andrews 0+2, and Marc Levers 0+2. Shots On Goal: 35-27. A number of penalties with only one major penalty for spearing given against a Hawks player.
The Lions have another weekend of away games as they take on Deeside Dragons on Saturday before travelling to second placed Hull Pirates on Sunday. Hull have only the one game that weekend so will be a great deal fresher than a perhaps somewhat jaded Lions.

They should contact the Panthers to get the OK to do a bucket collection on Saturday. 6000 fans, even if only a quarter of them chuck in £1 it pays for the replacement equipment and the rest can either be pumped into the club, maybe to pay for travel for a couple of away games, or gets donated to charity.

It is true to say that a loss of this magnitude to a team is pretty devastating as this takes a big chunk of the team's very limited resources. As it is revenue from the home games barely covers the expenses. Any help in retrieving this situation would be most welcome. The burden on the players cannot be overemphasised as they are the guys that eventually have to dig deep to keep the team afloat. It is a credit to the team that they show a strong and continual commitment to a sport that they truly love to play. Not many teams could survive these continual pressures season after season but the Lions find just enough to keep turning out to play. A proud group of players coaches and manager keep this Nottingham team alive, that's 'The Pride', that's the Lions.

Maybe this is something the trust could help with, as I believe at one point it was said they were a trust for all levels of hockey in Nottingham unless this standpoint has changed

I believe that the relationship between the trust and the Panthers has not yet been established sufficiently for this to happen. An approach might not be welcomed until a some future workable link occurs. Apologies for not sounding too optimistic but a good idea never the less.

There's a connection between the Trust and the Lions though isn't there? Panthers are irrelevant in this scenario. Probably be difficult for the Trust to do much until it's fully up and running though, elected board and all that.
Anyway, sounds from Luke's follow up tweets that most of the gear has been covered now?

You are absolutely right in that the trust established a strong link very early on and this was welcomed by the Lions wholeheartedly. I believe some of the equipment has now been replaced.

Weekend Games:Saturday: Billingham Stars v Solihull Barons, Blackburn Hawks v Whitley Warriors, Solway Sharks v Sheffield Steeldogs, and Deeside Dragons v Nottingham Lions. The first three games could potentially swing either way but I would go with the Barons, Warriors and Sharks. The Lions could should they win at Deeside could be driving another nail in the Dragons coffin with relegation staring them in the face. This will be a battle and given that the Dragons took the last home game against the Lions 7-5 the Nottingham team better be prepared from the off. The Lions have on a number of occasions started slowly and found themselves chasing games. When the Dragons last visited Nottingham although eventually running out 2-12 losers the first period was a 1-1 tie with the Deesiders in the ascendancy play wise. It was in the second period that the Lions took the game by the scruff of the neck but it could have been otherwise.
Sunday: Whitley Warriors v Blackburn Hawks, Sheffield Steeldogs v Solway Sharks, Deeside Dragons v Telford Tigers, Solihull Barons v Billingham Stars, and Hull Pirates (with only one game this weekend) v Nottingham Lions. I will go with Warriors, Steeldogs, Tigers, and Barons. The Lions on their second road trip of the weekend will really be up against it as they meet the second place Hull Pirates hungry to hit that top slot.

Tonight's Results: Billingham Stars 3 Solihull Barons 4, Blackburn Hawks 2 Whitley Warriors 5, Solway Sharks 2 Sheffield Steeldogs 6. Managed to get two out of the three results right only the Sharks nosedived. Steeldogs remain in top spot. The Lions travelled to Deeside and took the game 1-6 a result that leaves the Dragons in a perilous position and facing relegation should they not pull some big results out of the bag. Sam Gospel turned out for his first game back with the Lions giving him some necessary ice time. Period scores: 3-0/2-1/1-0. Scorers: Paul Stanley 3+1, Ruskin Hughes 3+0, Marc Levers 0+5, Joseph Gretton 0+3, Samuel Gospel 0+1. There were two straight hat tricks in the game. A very good result on the road but a tougher outing tomorrow as the Lions play a four pointer up at second place Hull Pirates. Not expecting much from this encounter but this weekend was all about the points from the game against Deeside.

The Lions travelled to Hull with 12 skaters tonight and faced a full Pirates bench itching to create havoc. Well with 83 shots on Sam Gospel the Pirates certainly created the opportunities and made 9 of them count as the Lions went down 9-0. I must admit having looked at the bench strength tonight and with the Pirates at home I fully expected double figures but that did not occur. I bet there is one heck of a tired team heading home having set out this weekend just to get a couple of points and just try and hold back the second placed team in the conference. The goal was achieved on Saturday without a doubt as the Lions bagged the two points they wanted. For Sam Gospel a good weekend's work out and against the Pirates plenty of action as he kept out 74 of those shots from a quality team. With a tiring Lions team in front of him Sam did a sterling job. Period Scores: 3-0/4-0/2-0. Other scores to follow.

Weekend Games: Saturday: Whitley Warriors v Solihull Barons, Billingham Stars v Solway Sharks, Hull Pirates v Deeside Dragons, and Sheffield Steeldogs v Telford Tigers. Warriors after their 4 pointer last weekend will be on the up for this one but the Barons also grabbed a 4 pointer as well. This will be down to how well the Barons travel but the Warriors could very well nick this one. The Stars will have it all on against the Sharks particularly after their losses home and away last weekend. The Stars also lost both of their games against the Barons and I think they will give up the points in this one. The Pirates has to be a massive home banker against the Dragons although the Deesiders picked up 4 players ahead of this one including Marc Lovell, a well known crowd pleaser for the shell shocked Dragons. Now for the big one, Sheffield Steeldogs v Telford Tigers first meets a close third in the conference. Telford were the hot favourites at the start of the season but the consistency at present lies with the 'Dogs' who have only slipped up once in their last 14 games and rightfully head the table. This one could go either way but the odds on present form has to be with the 'Dogs' on home ice.

Tonight's Results: Whitley Warriors 4 Solihull barons 5 (OT win), Billingham Stars 7 Solway Sharks 5, Sheffield Steeldogs 0 Telford Tigers 1, and Hull Pirates 23 Deeside Dragons 0. A massive result for the Stars with finally a win at the 7th attempt including cup games. The 'Dogs' finally give up a game after a long winning run. The Telford goal was scored in the first period and for two and a half periods they held on for the win. I think Deeside Dragons will be relieved when the season is over as 13 skaters faced a task at Hull that was way beyond them with the score reflecting the Pirates dominance.
Sunday Games: Blackburn Hawks v Solway Sharks, Solihull Barons v Hull Pirates, Telford Tigers v Whitley Warriors, Deeside Dragons v Billingham Stars. The Nottingham Lions have a major task on their hands as the Steeldogs come to town. After their home loss to the Tigers they will aim to bring down the only other big cat in the conference and restore their pride and confidence. The last time these two met was in October as the 'Dogs' were just limbering up for the season and went home having subjected the Lions to a 0-6 result. The fact is the 'Dogs' are a much stronger outfit these days so expecting them to blitz the home team given the opportunity. The 'Dogs' as well as two high scoring imports have a strong contingent of equally high scoring Brits in the pack and that has helped the team to maintain their first place in the conference. The face off for this one is 7.30pm.

Tonight's Results: Blackburn Hawks 3 Solway Sharks 6, Solihull Barons 3 Hull Pirates 4, Telford Tigers 8 Whitley Warriors 0, Deeside Dragons 0 Billingham Stars 15. All of the top teams in the conference win their respective games. Deeside Dragons end yet another miserable weekend as the Stars put the Dragons to the sword. The Nottingham Lions put up a spirited performance against the conference number one team but eventually went down 2-4. The Lions certainly made the 'Dogs' work for the points. Period Scores: 0-0/0-3/2-1. Getting a tied period and taking the third was definitely not on the Steeldogs radar at all. Lions scorers: Marc Levers 2+0, Paul Stanley 0+1, Joe Humphries 0+1. MOM Sam Gospel.
