Seeing as we have a Music Thread, I thought it may be nice to have an 'official' Film Thread. Moddies sticky? Anyway, just to get the ball rolling, I just found THIS trailer. Not yet out in the USA, but i am already looking forward to seeing it here. Anyone seen 'The Orphanage' yet? Hoping to see that this weekend.

Good idea Heatley, saw Juno a couple of weeks ago and I was quite surprised as I thought it was pretty good and Cut Chemist is in it... i hope this turns into a recommendation thread because i love film, regardless of genre or era. i think that club tropicana (drinks are freeeee) film looks awful. however i watched a fantastic film last night called half nelson. its about a teacher that is a drug addict that gets caught smoking crack by one of his pupils. the film stars Ryan Gosling (of 'the notebook' fame), well worth the asking price if you want a film to provoke thought rather than to just mong out in front of.

Anybody else seen Vantage Point? I thought it was awesome, loved it!
Camera was a bit jerky and you had to get into it but it was the best film I have seen for a while

Finally went to see 'The Orphange' this afternoon. The biggest let down with this film is the advertising & hype surrounding it. To bill it as a ghost/horror film is almost laughable. Don't go & see this & expect to be fightened out of your wits, as you'll be massively dissapointed. Why did the posters advertising this film state ''Just keep telling yourself it's only a film''. Anyone that gets scared by this, is probably still being breast-fed! What it is is a decent story, quite beautifully told. A story about losing loved ones, & what your prepared to do to find them OR rejoin them. The actual pace of the film is almost pedestrian in places, but stick with it. A decent film..but not a classic.

i watched shoot em up this afternoon. with a title like that, you arent going to get a film like atonement, the flick was so much fun! death by carrot, monica belluci, babies in bullet proof vests = kickass fun movie if you want a laugh, or even to scoff at how unbelievable the movie is, this ones for you!

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, the first one with Chevy Chase. That film has some scenes that has me crying with laughter ;D. The second one was pants, no Chevy Chase no laughs.

We saw The Orphanage last night and quite enjoyed it. As Heatley said, it is not a scary film, but there were several times that most of the cinema jumped.
Don't be put off by the fact it is in Spanish with English subtitles.

Finally got around to watching 'Eyes wide shut' the other night, mind = blown.
Kubrick saved the best til last, 160 minutes of pure brilliance. The pace is perfect, i was watching it at 2:30am and my eyes were ironically, wide open. If you haven't seen it, give it a go. Tom Cruise is superb as usual.
Other recent recommendations:
Cube Into the Wild Twelve Monkeys

Im new to the cage, don't bite. Im a Steelers fan but im not here to gloat and tbh won't be posting that much on the hockey side of things more on the off topic one as the one on Steeltalk is boring.
Anyhoo back to the subject at hand. Ive been to see a fair few films in the past months having invested in one of those pay monthly card things.
Last film i went to see was Spiderwick Chronicles, to be fair its not a bad film even for someone in there 20's like me, obvioulsy its geared more towards kids but its still good harmless fun. Before that i went to see something the complete opposite to that in Rambo, good film that tries its best to highlight some real problems over there, anyone who was a fan of any of the previous Rambo's won't be dissapointed.
Definately looking forward to the next Indy film, Ironman not as much but will definately check it out but i'm way to excited about the new Batman film (Geek alert) it looks tremendous, the viral internet campaign they have been doing is great!!!
Regarding the comedy question, I've been to see Semi - Pro, its good and im a big Will Ferrell fan since Anchorman but he just seems to be regurgitating the smae jokes over and over, but still good for a laugh if you like that sort of film.
Hoping to see Orphange at some point, went with the intention of seeing it last week without realising it was subtitled and decided against it as i was too tired to have to concentrate enough to read it.
I'd reccomend Redemption with Jamie Foxx if anyone has any free time, not a big blockbuster film but a good insight into the gang wars that were/are happening in America and across the world. Its based on a true story aswell.
