The hockey season is here again! ;D
I think we've got ourselves a very tough opening weekend but I haven't looked forward to the start of a new campain as much as this in some years. What's folks thoughts on the Giants match?
*Please use this thread as the game thread, not just a pre-game one*

Big game, even tho its the first game of the season it will show a heck of a lot about the league. Giants have the finesse and shear quality, panthers have the grit and the muscle. Probably the most talented team vs probably the hardest working. A one sided game either way would show alot about which approach was the best. Sorry I know its very early and getting carried away but it will definatly be intresting

Will be a cracker and im going to give it 3-1 to Panthers, we'll hit them hard resulting in a few scuffles with Shmyr v Ski and Simoes v Hutchins but think us hitting them around will put them off there game plan and they'l try to play physical.

I think that`s a good prediction and I`ll agree with that aswell! It will be a good test to how good we are.

Hoping for a high scoring Giants win because it's always great to hammer the Panthers, don't think it will happen tomorrow but here's hoping! ;D
Also Skiehar v Shmyr.

Only one prediciton:
Courtney will throw his toys out of the pram (or sticks off the bench).
Fortunatly the Elitle League Chairman won't be able to influence Kirkham like he has influenced his side kick French, and Courtney will get the bans he should have got in the past.

I wouldn't worry too much if he did recieve a ban from the bench, we have Ruff who already has experience taking charge of the bench.
His little hissy fit last year provided a great nights entertainment anyways, I'd rather have him than a cardboard cut out coach like Paul Adey or Rob Stewart. ;D
Anyways, back to the game, I predict a 4-3 win for you Panthers, you will have adapted to the new rules better than us with your pre season friendlies, whereas Giants havn't had much of a pre season.
Should be a good game.

Im gonna predict which i don t normally do, i think Belfast haven t got their match fitness up to ours yet, so i think we re playing them at a good time so im going to go for a 3-2 win our goals coming from Neilson, Stevens and Clarke

I have phones Belfast Giants today and they will not be doing the radio coverage via the internet this season which is an awful shame because it was well worth the £1.50. Its not even on the tele thingy. My Belfast mate reckons Giants never win their first game because they haven't had any pre season matches etc, so let hope she's telling the truth. Panthers to win 3-1

I reckon its a tough one... as rich said... both teams are geared differently.
Giants have a lot of individual skill but I hope that our own D can really shut that down with a bit of muscle. It will be a real test for Lindsay because these are a finesse team in the league and will be working well with fast passes and shots.
I reckon anyway... but ive not seen Belfast at all. Its not gonna be easy by any stretch though but there 4 of us going over that I know of. Gonna be fun, really happy to be there for the opener

I agree with Ted. The interesting thing will be seeing how our D copes against the best attacking team (on paper) in the league. We all have confident in our fowards ability to score goals.
My prediction: Belfast 2 - Panthers 3

Has Chris Ellis gone over today for the match? Or are we all just going to enjoy a night in front of IH Update?

That's true, a good time for you to play us, although we did beat Newcastle in the opening game last season and Sheffield away in the first game 2 seasons ago, our first game record isn't great. Still I'm cautiously optimistic as Ed will have put them through their paces and made sure they're ready.

Has Chris Ellis gone over today for the match? Or are we all just going to enjoy a night in front of IH Update? Yeah, does anyone know if theres Radio coverage of the game?? On the Radio Nottm shedule it says "The Beat: ....blah blah blah.......including local gigs and coverage of the Nottingham Panthers games" Whether or not this is one of them I guess we shall ahve to wait and see.

Not many of our fans there apparently, not surprised being as they didn' t release fixtures early enough to get good flights.
