A post on another thread got me thinking about this. What is the best game you've ever seen? By best I don't neccessary mean a cup winning game as often they're not good matches to watch - I mean the game that sticks in your mind as the most entertaining or exciting you've seen. For me it's a 9-8 loss to the Steelers in their barn in 1995. A full house of 9,000, a terrific atmosphere but it started as an absolutely disaster for the Panthers with us being 6-1 down a little under half way through the game. Then came the comeback - 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, 6-5 and, unbelievably, just as the period drew to a close 6-6. About 5 minutes into the third period we were 7-6 up. Panther and Steeler alike were stunned. They pulled it back to 7-7 but we took the lead again at 8-7. Then we just ran out of steam - they equalised and Ron Shudra got the winner with a slapshot from the blue line with 2 minutes to go. Had we held on, I think we'd have held out for the championship that season. As it happens after that we started to wobble and our title hopes came unstuck. I often wonder what would have become of the first decade of our rivalry with the Steelers had we held on in that game. Still, for putting me through every conceivable emotion I doubt that game will ever be bettered.

I've only been a fan for a year and a half so not got loads to choose from.
A close second was a 3-4 o.t loss to phoenix last year, good goals, good fights, lots of action.
However my favourite is panthers 6-1 steelers from this season. It was a fast paced hard hitting game, finnerty got dealt with by wally, pelts dealt with hewitt, lots of niggles and discipline fell apart a bit at the end about 4 misconducts. Plus it was 6 past jody which proved it wasn't just davey lawrence we could score past.
It was bloody brilliant! ;D

Mine was the 2/11/2003 against the Steelers we won 5-4 AOT.
Being 3-0 down after 20:38.
And Craighead getting 1+1, and Joel Salonen 0+3.
Just a great team performance to come back and beat the Steelers at their own game.

Kim that game was pretty incredible. Also the same season in the group stages of the playoffs we beat you 7-6 I think at HOS. Was also a cracking game from memory. However in terms of standard of hockey it doesnt come close.
One of my favourite games I saw was the first year of the ISL and we drew with Ayr 0-0 in Sheff. No goals but the standard of play was exceptional from both sides. Awesome attacking play, great defensive plays and stunning Goaltending. Was end to end for almost the entire game. I think both goalies faced 30-35 shots each.
Also there are many games that were amazing due to the circumstances. The first ISL playoff final against you. Think you scored after about a minute but we tied it up at the end of the first. Then possibly one of the best plays Iv ever seen - Kovacs chased down Premak, negated the icingh, levelled Premak into the boards and popped the puck out front to Lafreniere, who I think had enough time to go to the beer off, drink his can of special brew before he froze Robbins with an awesome deke and fired home.
Also that year, your semi against Ayr that went to about 6 periods of OT. That was one of the most immense games Iv ever seen, probably the best Iv watched as a neutral (well almost, I was singing Flower of Scotland with the Ayr fans a lot through memory!).

The best game...for me, although it may not have been the best in terms of skill, nothing can beat the 2004 CC victory in Sheffield.
Out of the games I have seen its unbeatable in my mind for pure emotion - the amazement at going 2-0 up, then the inevitability of Steelers clawing back to 2-2. The third period was absolutely terrifying, then it went to over time... 53 seconds in and Briane Thompson gets the puck on the far side, makes a perfect pass to Mikko Koivonouro (sp?!) who sends it across to Kim Ahlroos at the post to fire it in.
That split second of "oh my god did we actually just win" followed by a roar as hundreds of Panthers fans rose as one, absolutely incredible.
Gives me goosebumps just typing it.

Belfast v Ayr, Challenge Cup Final in Belfast
From Wiki
They even had the banner up (I have a picture somewhere) that read League & Challenge Cup Winners, Play Offs next, most amusing.
I was there because we had our asses kicked the night before in the 'O' (again), and earned a few quid at the same time.

Yes I remember that game, and it saw James Morgan score the game tying goal to make it 3-3 with a rifle of a shot past Dopson. I was pretty drunk after that game. ;D I think one of my best games would have to be the B&H first leg win against Cardiff in 93-94 at LPS. They were the team to beat in British hockey at that time and we won 5-4 but went on to lose the second leg and the tie overall down in Wales. There was also a 5-5 tie on Boxing day in 94-95 against Humberside, which was simply end to end stuff. Brebant scored to make it 5-4 Panthers, but then a Humberside player scored right at the death to tie the game. I don't think the FABULOUS National Ice Centre has seen many "great games."

Ginger I think you'll find it was Hadden who Kovaks stole the puck off to set up that goal. can't remember Kovaks hitting anyone bigger and comining out on top. Some great games in the old barn that could'nt be beaten for atmosphere, too many to single one out.

All the players just looked completely dead on their feet by the end. Was it Jeff 'The Toad' Hoad who scored your winner?

Was it Jeff 'The Toad' Hoad who scored your winner? Yes. I remember thinking that we weren't going to last when Carson called Mike Bishop for holding, but Hoad collected the puck, skated down the wing and buried the puck on the rebound! I don't know if I was more relieved the game was over or happy that we'd won. That was certainly a memorable game though - especially when you consider that with about 5 minutes left we were 5-2 down and looking utterly beaten. Talking of games with comebacks - there was the last Wembley final vs the Steelers when we went from 3-0 down and looking in real trouble only for us to score 3 times in 94 seconds to level it. I don't think I've ever gone so mad at a goal was I did the third one in that game. Then there was Mike Blaisdell's first game back at LPS after walking out on us to join the Steelers a couple of months earlier. We were 3-1 down at the end of the first period but managed to win 6-5. One of several memorable wins over supposedly better opposition we managed in 1999-00.

For me (and being a Steelers fan your probably not going to like them) its a toss up between the game where we won the league in your barn when Chris 'Disco' Szysky scored after being mugged and assaulted on the way to the net. Or the game after we had just won the league either the night before or the night before before in Belfast. They both had a great atmosphere to them and at the same time two very contrasting atmospheres aswell.

Best way to win it too. ;D
I think that had that comeback started even 30 seconds earlier we would have won that game. We had you on the ropes after the third goal went in, but the hooter went and you had the chance to rest and reform your composure. I really miss some of the tussles we had with one another in those early days of the rivalry.

That was when it WAS a huge rivalry and there was nothing finer. I might not have seen it,(well apart from the video after) but the game at LPS the year before when we won the league was possibly the best game Iv ever listened too! As with the 9-8 game that put me through every emotion as well!

Best game i've seen was at the NIC in October 2001 i think it was when we drew 6-6 with London Knights. We were bloody awful for the first two periods and deservedly found ourselves 5-1 down going into the 3rd...then the comeback. Amazingly we were then 6-5 up after scoring 5 straight, but then London equalised with a minute left and that was that. (games just finished as a draw in that season).

Best game was my first ever in 2003 when we went 5-0 up against steelers and ended up 5-5. I hated Steelers after about 1 minute and my opinion hasn't got much better since. I now been hooked for the past 5 years.
