what do people out there think to his goal against villa yesterday?
It was a ludicrous piece of skill, for as much as people dislike him he has an obscene amount of talent and it will be criminal if he doesn't pick up every award in sight within the next year.

After the "winking" incident a couple of years ago i really wanted to dislike him, but instead i find myself looking out for Man Utd matches on tv to get the chance to watch him play.
He is a joy to watch and for me is easily the best player in the world at the moment.
I really hope he stays in England for the duration of his career!

Besides Lionel Messi. 2007-08 Season: Messi - Games played 29 Goals Scored 15 Ronaldo - Games played 37 Goals Scored 34 Messi is a brilliant player and is probably the 2nd best in the world at the moment, behind the outstanding C Ronaldo.

But since when has goals scored got anything to do with it? Afonso Alves scored a hatful of goals last season for Herenveen in Holland, did he get world player of the year? NO not even close! Its not a valid reason for being worlds best player..

And completely OWNED by Gattuso and Meelan. The knock on Ronaldo is that he is yet to do on the biggest of stages. Yes he's had some great games for Man U and PORT but I've also seen him tucked in Ashley Cole's back pocket on more than one occasion. Looked great v Millwall in the Cup Final. Paolo Ferreira shut him down in last year's final and Ferreira isn't even a starter normally for Chelsea. Messi on the other hand has won it all with Barca and is their best player. Considering who else plays for them that says it all. Ronaldo is maybe the 2nd best player in the world but I'd have Messi over any other player. MessidonaIt'll be great in a couple of years time when Ronaldo and Messi line up v each other in El Classico.

And tbh by end of season i can see man utd winning prem and CL. (before anyone comments, i'm a forest fan so my opinion isn't from personal support for him or united.)

Its not a valid reason for being worlds best player.. I was highlighting the fact that Ronaldo has vastly outscored Messi so far this season, which FYI is one pretty good way to judge an attacking player Other stats, such as assists, will give you a broader picture but when a player scores 34 in 37 top class games you can pretty sure he's a pretty brilliant player. If Alves were to re-create his scoring form from holland in one of the top leagues then he would have to be up there as one of the best players around.

Worth noting that footballing experts base a player's worth on more than just how many goals he scores. That's why Kaka won last year and not Totti. And Messi came second ahead of Ronaldo. And the English award went to Ronaldo despite the fact that Drogba scored more goals than him. Go figure. Like I said before, when Ronaldo plays for Real Madrid we'll get a better idea of how he compares to Messi.

While the fact he is a midfielder nearly at 40 goals is staggering goals are not everything i agree but messi isn't even close to that tally! Also look at CR's ability to supply goals- the cross for tevez on sat was milimetre perfect. his talent unreal! When is messi ever gonna do a towering, thumping header like last night? Never, thats when! And after this seasons performance you'll never see him at madrid as man united will move heaven and earth to keep him!

I dont think Spence was saying that goals are everything, just like i wasnt saying goals were everything when i compared their scoring records. Even someone with a most basic knowledge of football knows there is a hell of a lot more to being a quality player than finishing off chances regularly, it just so happens that Ronaldo can do pretty much everything else (in an attacking sense) as well as scoring shedloads of goals. I admit ive seen a lot more of Ronaldo than i have of Messi but from what ive seen Ronaldo has pretty much everything Messi has except Ronaldo has a superiour goal scoring record, is more of a threat in the air and can take set pieces. For me that makes Ronaldo the better player. And why would moving to a lower standard of league help prove anything?

Ronaldo will move to Real. It's his dream to play for them. He's said so. Even his mum says so. It'll happen and Man U won't be able to stop him. Just like Figo, Beckham, Ronaldo, Zizou and Ruud. Real are like the Mounties.
You're right Ronaldo is better in the air. He actually only has 3 assists this season as he is actually not playing as a midfielder. Man U have adopted the strikerless formation that Roma pioneered with Totti. It's a devastating system if the right players are playing. That's why Ronaldo is scoring more and creating less.
Messi is the closest thing we've seen the great one retired. That's why he's dubbed Messidona. It's frightening how good ARG could be with the talent they have coming thru. Of course they a maanger can eff it up for them like in 2006.

so messi is better because he's got a nickname Yes you're right that makes him the best in the world so to counter act that i'll start calling CR pelenaldo then he'll be the best will he?

I don't know how anyone can query the lad being the best in the world. He scores domestically (1 every 2.5), internationally (1 in every 2.7) and in Europe (1 in every 3.5). On top of this, he's at the centre of virtually every attack Man Utd have and could score twice as many as he does.
Nobody can touch him.

Real are like the Mounties. Don't know about the rest, but Beckham and RVN were sold by Man Utd's choice. Where did you get the assists stat? I find that very, very hard to believe. The worship for Messi comes because he's Argentinian, it's always going to come for one of their own and he's always going to get compared to the last great talent to come from the country. Furthermore, Messi is playing alongside Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Henry and Xavi every week. Ronaldo is playing alongside Hargreaves, Rooney and then an ageing Scholes, an badly-ageing Giggs, Fletcher and Saha. I think i'd look pretty good playing with Barca's front 6.
