If they wanted stability then wouldn't it have made sense to run with cotterill to begin with? He'd started planning pre-season, knew the players (that were left) and understood the internal workings of the club. This includes the acquisitions panel. Would have made more sense wouldn't it, with players leaving left, right and centre, I think a new manager has got a massive job to try and fill the gaps within a short amount of time, where as with Cotterill, as you mentioned, was already planning and if they miss out in this transfer window, it's going to feel like a long wait until january's. If they've chosen to go down the route of an 'iconic' manager then this more than likely means a big high profile name. With that you'll understandably get a guy who's going to want a much, much bigger say when it comes to transfer dealings. I did think that with what you had mentioned yesterday with Mick McCarthy, I can't see many wanting to take up the job if they are unable to do this, especially the higher profiled managers.

Fair choice. Knows squad and the league. Now get out and buy the 2 we had from wolves last season.

Guedioura ought to be the first signing, and sharpish.

Hardly an "iconic" appointment.

Sensible appointment and with the benefit of hindsight (which the owners don't get, and I do after initially tipping MM!) it is the correct appointment for Nottingham Forest. Sick to death of hearing the word 'iconic' rammed back down the throat of guys who's first language is not English. Yes it may have been an unwise choice of adjective but for Christ's sake cut them some slack. They could have gone for Redknapp who i'm sure would fit that word and he'd subsequently ignore our academy players and blunder millions on players. The game has moved on, it's not the old school 'pick 'em and kick 'em' game that a lot of old school managers are used to. Look at the successful managers at Championship level in recent years who have also gone on to do well in the Premier League - Hughton, Lambert. McDermot, Rodgers, even Holloway who did an amazing job with a hugely lacking squad. These are not 'prestige' names they are guys who have learnt their trade and how to gel a team of players whilst getting every last bit of quality out of each and every player. Sean O'Driscoll fits that mould. I urge anyone who isn't positive about the appointment to read the articles linked part way down Steve Wright's article here: mylifeinfootball.wordpress.com/2012/07/20/chuffed-over-the-moon-welcoming-sean-odriscoll/Delighted with the appointment, and Cloughie will be smiling too.

Hardly an "iconic" appointment. This isn't really a dig at you, but i'm sick and tired of hearing that word dredged up. It's merely a lost in translation thing here, iconic means something different in Arabic.

I agree, im sick of it too.
I think this is a excellent appointment considering some of the names which were thrown around, remember the last big name manager we had... yeah that worked out !

Geddy signs a 3 year deal subject to a medical & Fawaz confirms more signings expected by end of the week. Strong rumours about James Coppinger from Donny Rovers who O'Driscoll will know well and also periphery rumours regarding Jenas returning as well as Elokobi. Exciting times.

Anderson to Bristol on a two year deal. Thought he'd already gone to Blackpool? As far as I know the Blackpool move fell through, not sure for what reason.

Kieron Freeman has left Forest to join Derby; dear me - who is advising that kid?
Not happy at Forest as he wants a shot at the first team; joins the sheep to be "in the squad just below the first team" to quote non-leage Nigel.
Bizarre
