Sooner the takeover is sorted the better Definitely, season tickets can get sold etc and the team needs rebuilding big style. If Cotterill is kept on then it ll be interesting to see who he brings in. Personally I would see if Harry Redknapp fancies a challenge

Not surprised but I am worried by some of the names we have been linked to:
McLeish, McCarthy, Warnock, Sven..............all of them high profile, all of them over-rated

Keane, Billy D, Curbishley? Massive decision for the club this one - could well be a defining moment in our very recent history

He is already popular with the fans and has enjoyed success at Championship level. He knows the transfer market and what sort of player it takes to get promoted

Massive decision for the club this one - could well be a defining moment in our very recent history For me it has to be Billy Davies, he has a point to prove that he can buy success with his 'stellar' signings. He is already popular with the fans and has enjoyed success at Championship level. He knows the transfer market and what sort of player it takes to get promoted Does he? Don't get me wrong, I loved Billy. His passion, his stoking of the fire with the fans, his ability to get players going. But then the things i've heard off the record are of a man who would fight his own shadow if he didn't get enough conflict any given week. He has a reputation as a trouble maker. Possibly that is unfairly inflated because of his 'fiery' style but there are enough stories from reputable sources to say he's not worked since leaving Forest for a reason. The stuff banded about about Nigel Doughty slapping an extended pay off and 'exclusivity' period on him until that pay off was complete are complete bull. He has a reputation amongst those in the game as a chairman's nightmare. There are ways to go about being 'bullish' and Billy just can;t find the right level. Then there's the bit about him knowing how to get promoted. He did it once. Via the lottery that is the play offs and with a side that was playing on the crest of a wave not a carefully put together team of players who had what it took to genuinely trouble the auto spots. I loved Billy for his love of the game, and for that bullish nature in the face of any criticism or in the midst of a crisis...but it's time to move forward, not back. He isn't the right man for the job at hand. It may well have been a mistake getting rid of him in a purely footballing sense but he himself made his position untenable. You can;t right that wrong 'footballing' decision by now going back and re-installing him. Things move on and so should we. My choice would be Mick McCarthy. He is massively underrated for what he's done in the game. Old school manager, says it like it is but can understand the modern game. Likes his wide players too which is absolutely essential at Championship level as most defences at this level are susceptible against pacey wingers and the ball in behind the back 4. Doesn't mean he's the right man for the long term but he'll get us up. Would you trust him to establish you in the PL, I don't know. But lets not get ahead of ourselves - getting out of the Championship is difficult at any time and is not something that money just buys. I personally feel that 2 years to get to the PL is realistic yet still challenging. It is by no means a done deal and people need to get down of cloud 9 and just for a moment think about the strategic method in amongst all the madness. It is, without doubt, a great time to be a fan of Nottingham Forest, we've suffered for a long long time and no matter what anyone says we are a very big club both in history and stature - sleeping giant fits us more than any other club in the world. Lets hope the Al-Hasawi family can wake us up.

I'm with Elliott on MM; think he'd do a good job for us at Championship level. Not overly thrilled with Hoddle being linked with Forest too be honest.

No way on hoddle. Ten years ago maybe but not now. A mate of mine is a lifelong wolves fan and said he'd take mccarthy over hoddle every time.
I'd probably be happy with mccarthy, he got both Sunderland and wolves promoted so has a proven track record and clearly knows what it takes to get a team out of the division.

Two players have allegedly signed for Forest, one a LB and an ex-Forest player...
There's also a few Arabic players coming over on trial. Fun times ahead.

All over the internet that Mick Mc has ruled himself out after talks. By the looks of things he wanted total control over transfers and couldn't agree with the club hierachy over this. If that was the sticking point then it sounds as though there's still some sort of acquisitions panel in place? Looking like hoddle or young fergie now

If that was the sticking point then it sounds as though there's still some sort of acquisitions panel in place? Its likely thats the case, which means you could probably rule out King Billy too (my choice for the job). Wouldn't want Hoddle or Keane and the Posh would require 1.5m in compo for Young Fergie...... Gordon Strachan has been in talks with Forest and for me he's probably the best of this average bunch. Gunter's departure leaves the Reds without any (credible) defenders at the club so Forest need to be busy in the transfer market. Having said that 2.5m is a good price for him (overated in my opinion) and this deal was in the making a week or so ago.

DoF is the way forward. Giving 'old school' managers, or any managers for that matter, complete autonomy is madness. Sure they should be in control over team affairs and shouldn't have players hoisted upon them but clubs should be looking at DoF's with knowledge of the game on long term contracts to provide stability.

Sure they should be in control over team affairs and shouldn't have players hoisted upon them but clubs should be looking at DoF's with knowledge of the game on long term contracts to provide stability. If they wanted stability then wouldn't it have made sense to run with cotterill to begin with? He'd started planning pre-season, knew the players (that were left) and understood the internal workings of the club. This includes the acquisitions panel. If they've chosen to go down the route of an 'iconic' manager then this more than likely means a big high profile name. With that you'll understandably get a guy who's going to want a much, much bigger say when it comes to transfer dealings.
