With the 2nd pick of the Draft I chose Tom Brady! Brees has been good but the Saints are done. No D means no chance.
TB Buccs v NE Pats at Wembley on 25/10/09. Hopefully they'll both lose!
If I had to predict the PO's I'd say:
TEN and PIT bye. JETS v NE/MIA and DEN v INDY then I predict: TEN v JETS and PIT v INDY.
TEN v PIT (thanks to poor weather and field in PIT).
NFC -
NYG and TB with the byes
MINI v DAL Az v ATL
NY v DAL TB v ATL
NY v TB
NY beats PITS in the Bowl.

I'm giving a shout out to our punter (Michael Koenen) and the coverage unit who set a new NFL record by only allowing 49 return yards all season............

That's good. One of Oakland's bright spots was Shane Hannibal Lechler. He's the best punter in the NFL and is now an FA.
Here's a cut of an email I sent to a mate about the weekend:
Balti beat Mi
Indy v SD is too close to call. I’ll edge for Indy just because of Peyton. When do we hear MVP results? TEN beat Balti but again a real close one.
Indy or SD beat PIT. Guessing here. Any bad weather and PIT’s traditional bad pitch will help PIT. I also like PIT because they will want TEN bad after Lendale’s towel stomping. But If SD have beaten Indy then they’ll be hard to stop. If Indy win then those exotic blitzes may not work as Peyton has the instincts and receivers to avoid pressure.
Balti v PIT would be a divisional slugfest. TEN v PIT would be a slugfest over towelgate. Indy v TEN will be a divisional battle. SD v TEN would be a clash of styles.
Really great match ups which ever way it goes. Any of the 5 could make it. only Miami I rule out.
NFC
Atl beats Az Phil beats Mini.
Phili in NY is another close one. Phili are on a roll like SD. I pick NY as it’s likely to be windy and you know Andy Reid will try to pass 100 times still. Jacobs should be 100% and he’s as effective as All Day.
ATL in CAR is another close one. Probably CAR as ATL can only last so long.
I back PHI or NY v CAR. NY will have homefield too but I think PHI can win there.

Finally over the 3rd and 16, KB what were you thinking? Fave time of year in football with it being the Play-offs and with the Senior Bowl and Free Agency just around the corner. That must means its draft board time and until the Falcs win the Superbowl, day one of the draft will always be my fave football day of the year. I’d like to see Stafford go one. I went to Athens once so I claim the Bulldogs to be my second college team, although it does stick in the throat to say Gooooooooo Bulldogs 45-42 cough cough ;D

I've got Stafford to go to Detroit. Just started to work on a mock.
Congrats on the season. Who you got this weekend? I'm leaning towards PHI and PIT.

That’s the Bowl I want. I’ve always liked PITT and whoever wins out of ARZ/PHI will draft behind us. Depending on what we do in FA it looks like (at this stage) we’re going NT, OLB, (chance Brooking/Boley go) SS, (chance Milroy goes) or TE in the 1st. I think PHI could go TE with one of their picks, so it MIGHT? ?? help us if they pick 31st/32nd. Without doubt 75% of this off-season is about our Defence, I only hope we do as well on that side of the ball as we did last off-season with the Offense Any chance Tom Cable is with you guys come Sept? And who are you targeting at number 7? Cheers

Every chance Cable stays. Kevin Gilbride (OC of the Giants) seems the other most likely. I'd stick with Cable. He started to turn it around and it'd be better not to upheave everything. Especially for Mario Henderson and JR.
He also knows and seemingly works well with Al. That's a big factor as you never know how others will deal with Al.
The draft is more complex after Mario did such a good job v the Pats, Buccs and Texans. Suddenly a LT might not be such a need. A trade down would now seem best value. Picking #7 is high for a RT.
Other spots would be a SAM (Maualuga!!!!!!!), SS (Mays!!!), WR (Crabtree!!!!!) or pass-rushing DE (Orakpo). The OT pool is deep which is why a small trade down could still land a guy like Oher or Jason Smith.
WR's are major risks. Mays isn't a desperate need as I still hope Huff can avoid busting. An OT like Monroe would probably offer best value. Mario is not a sure-thing still and we need to another Tackle for sure.
You can see why I'd like a trade down. A long way to go to late April.

As you probably know by now Mays is staying in school, which may take William Moore out of our reach at 24 (But as you said there’s a long way to go until April and the board will change many times) However today I believe Moore jumps into the top 15 with Mays not declaring. I seen a few sites with you guys taking Monroe and (as you pointed out) that's seems a decent pick. DT B.J Raji seems to be a popular pick for us with 100 days to go, although right now I wouldn’t be against either him, Sintim (SAM) maybe McRath (WILL) or Pettigrew (TE) We seemed to get more aggressive from the LB position as the season went on, if we were only doing that because we didn’t get enough pressure from the front four and we plan on going back to front four pressure then I doubt Sintim will be the pick and someone like McRath with speed will probably suit us better, (at the moment McRath is anywhere from 20th to 3rd rd so he's a watch closely) if we're staying aggressive Sintim will be a beast (OLB pick will be all about the system) I also guess that Pettigrew wouldn't pass our off-field test even though he looks to be the perfect TE for our offense, so rule them in and then rule them out ;D No doubt my view will change many times Cheers PS. I’ll be interested to see how the Mora/Knapp partnership goes in Seattle. It went downhill quickly here and didn’t Knapp lose the play calling in Oakland?

Updated 25/01/09 For those interested in the Draft Senior Bowl practice report, by Tony Pauline, Special to SI.com. Highlights RisersBJ Raji/DT/Boston College: B.J. was a bear in Mobile as he mauled offensive linemen at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. He was the talk of the first few days, and even though he didn't dominate in the game, he has the potential to be the first defensive tackle drafted. Shawn Nelson/TE/Southern Mississippi: Nelson looked formidable during weigh-ins this morning, then took his athletic frame onto the field and impressed scouts. He's fluid moving around the field and fast -- very fast. Nelson was constantly beating opponents in the secondary and made a number of good plays in the secondary. Larry English/DE-OLB/Northern Illinois: English was the best pass rusher on the field this week. He beat offensive tackles off the edge and made several higher rated prospects look like amateurs. His speed and ability to make plays up the field is enticing and has solidified English as a late first-round selection. Derek Williams/WR/Penn State: Williams was always thought of as a great athlete who showed flashes of excellence at receiver. He pulled all the pieces together this week and was just plain brilliant. His athletic skills translated into football dominance on just about every snap. He solidified himself as the draft's top senior receiver moving towards the combine and now grades out as a late first-round pick. Alphonso Smith/CB/Wake Forest: Smith 5'8" 7/8, took on all receivers, including those bigger or faster, and shut them down. He displayed great ball skills and made a living defending or intercepting passes all week. It will only be his size, not his skills that keeps Smith out of the first round. Peria Jerry/DT/Mississippi: Jerry is standing out to NFL decision makers not only as a football player but also a leader on the field. He has displayed good quickness off the snap and really pushes the pocket as an interior defender. Jerry's ability to shoot gaps and disrupt offenses has been apparent to all at the Senior Bowl. SlidersMichael Oher/OT/Mississippi: Oher is a dominant run blocker, but has shown less than ideal pass-blocking skills, which is especially troubling at the "blind side" position — left tackle. He's still a first-rounder, but may have a "buyer beware" tag attached. Pat White/QB/West Virginia: He might have been the MVP of the Senior Bowl as purely a quarterback, but his decision to stick at just one spot might have cost him a ton of money. It isn't that the best running quarterback in college football history (yes, including Tim Tebow) hasn't played well here, he has. White has the arm strength to play in the league. But the scouts were tremendously disappointed that White didn't take any reps at receiver or returner. He may well play QB at the next level (think of him as a poorer-man's version of Seneca Wallace), but he should have displayed the gifts that may make him a richer man's Antwaan Randle El. William Moore/S/Missouri: The former Tiger star needed a good week after a rough, injury-plagued season. It didn't happen. Moore didn't display the skills necessary to play safety, got knocked out of the Senior Bowl with an ankle injury, and went from being an almost-certain first-rounder to a possible late second-rounder. The buzz here is he'll be asked to put on weight and become a Will linebacker in the league. Herman Johnson/OL/LSU: Johnson has lined up at both his natural position of guard as well as right tackle. His size (6-feet-7, 382 pounds) has not transitioned into the ability to dominate the opposition. Johnson's immobility is obvious to all and at one point he was knocked to the ground due to his inability to move. Much was expected from Johnson this week but he has not responded and his draft stock is plummeting Notes After a very slow start to the week, Rey Maualuga finished in a furious manner and looked every bit the part of being an impact defensive player by Wednesday. He was flying around the field, running over blockers and blowing up plays.

If you're looking for a NFL team to follow to make the sport a little more interesting (in case you want to watch a few other games on sky) you could always follow the Carolina Panthers (seeing that you are against the Steelers) although being a Falcon myself, I would have to dislike you a little (Div Rivals) ;D Cheers

The Super Bowl was a fabulous game. American Football really is the most entertaining team sport. And the NFL is the best sports league on the planet.
The Steelers just deserved it. Big Ben has emerged as an elite QB. The Steelers are the best-run franchise in the USA.
A cracking night was had by all in Hooters! Roll on the Draft.

It also needs a salary cap for the 18 players named for every game. And it should redistribute money so that all the teams can afford the salary cap. Do that and you have a league where any team can win in any given season. Of course the EPL will never do that. Superleague is almost there.

The SB is still available on the iplayer. The second half was v good. The fourth quarter was special.
The best thing that can happen to soccer now is for the UCL to become a pseudo-NFL. The NFL is as good a league structure as you will find. You can hate the sport but that is irrelevant.
A sports league where anyone can win the title. The NFL (and maybe the NRL in Oz) are about the only leagues that seem to have achieved that.

A one off cap free year I could live with in 2010, a lockout in 2011 I can not.

Patriots have placed the franchise tag on Matt Cassel, who was more than a pleasant surprise last season. Adam Schefter Falcons will use franchise tag on punter Koenen Posted: February 9th, 2009 | NFL.com Staff | No big surprise that Patriots QB Matt Cassel was the first player to be franchised this offseason. But the second player expected to receive the tag is unexpected. The Falcons will slap their franchise tag on undrafted free-agent punter Michael Koenen, league sources said Monday. The franchise punter tag — which rarely is used — carries with it a $2.48 million salary, the average of the top five highest-paid punters in the NFL. Todd Sauerbrun is the only punter to ever receive the franchise tag. ..........................................................................................
