Further to recent suggestions about positions the team might want to look at ...
a) Dean Melanson has left the Bison. b) Tom Askey - the netminder at Dave Clarke's new team - has also become available.
Total guesswork but worth keeping an eye on, maybe ...

Melanson is retiring due to injury, so you can cross him off the list.

Cote would be a very very good signing but hows about casting this fishing net a bit further out...
Id still prefer a D man

Never seen Cote so can't say whether i'd like him there or not.
I would definitely like to see a new D man over a new forward tho. I think our D has bigger problems over our offense.

Hope he is, so payette can muller him again... Newcastle answer to any player that is a threat, goon it up. Cote stood up for himself but was not an all out enforcer but would add some well needed grit to the team. When Payette leaves this game it will be welcomed by me.

Not gonna ramble on this but cote spent the entire game winding andre up, then appeared shocked when payette attacked him. Newcastles answer to any player a threat is not to goon it up - Name one game this season when we have. One incident against coventry does not count as gooning it up btw. Cote was entertaining, and an ok player, but not sure if he is the right guy you need - maybe a bit lightweight?

fair point Rangers, but Cote was closest we had to an enforcer season before last, i think if he came back he would focus on the job in hand of scoring points.
Sorry for my misplaced comment about gooning it up but have a feeling if we were lucky enough to get Cote back he will not be the one goading Payette as we have an enforcer now.

Anyway, as has been said numourous times, the best thing for panthers at the mo is to look for new names - so many ex players have come back and disappoined - prepared to be corrected but was the last properly successful return in the jimmy paek - calle carlson era? It will be very interesting what happens

the key is that Cote is pure speculation at this stage and could just be a conveniant coincidence. we have had some very insucessful comebacks but who knows, maybe if Cote did come he would be the one to make a success of it.

Off the top of my head, when he played for us last he got 20 goals and 20 assists and managed that with spend 150 mins (roughly) in the box.

A bit lightweight are you for real, Brandin would be THE perfect choice and the one person ive wanted in this side all year , hes awesome at face offs , is a creative centre, very in yer face too and will rough it up , is many things but lightweight he is NOT

tbh heatley its not even a rumour, pure speculation. i do think he just what we need and dont thunk he will spend as long in the box if he came back.

I of course appreciate it's barely a rumour. Just finding it a little bit funny that certain folks were anti signing old players..until one of their faves names crops up.
