According to today's Daily Star, Kory Karlander could be on his way back to the UK next season.
Play-Off champions Nottingham Panthers are closing in on the 35-year old forward, who has spent the last five seasons back in North America. He is expected to agree terms to become a Panther later this week after turning down offers from several of their top flight rivals.
Karlander would be another major capture for ambitious boss Mike Ellis, who has pulled together the most feared squad in the land. ;D ;D
Thoughts people, remember it is only in the daily star.
Kory is another natural goalscorer, but hopefully he ll bed on that 2nd line cause we really need that centre to be ace at setting up, guess we ll see.

In all defense to the Daily Star, obviously they are not renowned for their accurate reporting, but i cannot rememeber reading an article from them about brit ice hockey that wasnt correct. Never heard of the guy until now but looking at his stats he seems to get more assists than goals and he's a centre. Maybe he is the top line centre or if he is to drop back on the second line could ME be looking to have the top two lines interchangable to confuse the other teams?

As long as you are fit enough, class will always shine through.
Moria continually puts up the points, and if you compare him with football - Teddy Sherringham is the obvious one.

Wouldn't be bad if it was true, but this is one that has come up for the last couple of summers.
You could pretty much change the date and the name of the Panthers coach and re-use the same reports from back then.

Good stats, just slightly worried about his age

If he's still got it..then that's all cool with me. Looking at his stats on Hockey DB his form does seem to dip & rise quite a margin. He seemingly struggles at anything above UHL level. Time will tell I guess.

true tubes, he didnt deny it at all in the article Re-read it. Mike Ellis says nothing of the sort, there is no quote from him as regards 'this week' at all. Mick Holland, assumes/writes it as such.

Mark Cadottes stats from the UHL last season: 66 19 21 40
Kory Karlanders stats from the UHL last season: 76 45 43 88
Will do me!! 45 Goals and 43 assists! I know the UHL isnt great but Caddy is a decent player who would do a good job over here and he did twice as well.
Hope he isnt 1st line centre though, wouldve thought Ellis would be going for someone with AHL experience.

Karlander is pure quality, I loved the guy and always wanted to sign him.
I dont think hes the all round player we need tho. We have natural goals in PC and Mac but I would still take him!
Maybe its all a smokescreen and were signing another KK, id take that!
The NEP article says more like are going to sign him than denying it!

Karlander does have AHL experience though. More than 100 games according to the stats on hockeydb.com. He was also a point-a-game man in the old ISL, which compares favourably to Gallant for example. As such, if we do sign him I'm sure he'd be a first line center and I don't think there'd be too much to worry about on the fitness front either - in each of the last two years he's played 76 games so he must still be going strong. Plus, IIRC he was a skilful player who was enjoyable to watch. Would be very happy to see him sign for us.

Good point although I was thinking of more recent AHL experience. ie - played there last season.
No doubt KK would be a great signing.
Never seen him play so dont dont if he would be 1st line quality.

with two players left surely we havnt got the money in the pot to splash out on someone just out the AHL, with Drouin Mac and Molin weve got much better forewards than last year already, so i reckon there cant be a massive amount left, especially if the 2nd line winger is going to be half decent aswell.
i can assure you though Matt, KK is quality, for the Giants he was a class act.

Interesting... hadn't even thought about Karlander for the 1st-line centre job, but if memory serves he was a key part of the Belfast Giants squad - one of those players that seems to get stuck in and do what's needed.
Assuming he's still up to full spec, this could be a good one for us if true...

Kory would be a great signing, IMO. He always impressed me when he played us.

Kory was superb in the ISL and would probably cause major problems for EIHL defences.
Very skillful, strong on the puck and incredible on the penalty kill.
Would love to see him back in the EIHL, no matter who he plays with.
The only issue was the ten minute misconduct penalties he racked up with his mouth, but he may have mellowed in his old age.
I don't think the Giants could afford to have another aging forward, with Ruff and Courtenay already getting on a bit, but Kory would be an excellent signing for you lot I believe.

the article reads as though ellis has been "in talks" with KK whether that amounts to any well time will tell. A Good player for giants and class shines through but at 35 he isnt in his prime anymore so whether he would cut it for us well IF he does sign i guess we would see....
