. I'll reiterate for the 1000th time i hope i am wrong and my fears arent realised and everyone is spending within their means. It will only increase everyones enjoyment of the sport. But that the problem we will probably never find out whos spending what so we may aswell trust our hockey clbs to learn from past mistakes, or keep worrying forever and a day, i know which one i will choose.

and of course thats fine Gazza in that it seems the panthers since NB have never spent out of their means, afterall it is a business and he is in it to make money which i am assured that he does. However what is also a point to note though is that it is strongly rumoured that throughout the ISL days the panthers were the only club to actually MAKE money. Now the panthers did not win any trophies but i am sure placing one of those teams in the league now it sure would and given the rumour that NB made money would you then be happy to see that Gazza as the club would obviously not be overstretching themselves.... guess not eh!!
The fact that the devils had financial difficulty just like the steelers does not detract from all those banners hanging from the rafters at both cardiff and HOS regardless of the number of owners does it? It does stick in my throat a little to hear fans of both sheffield and cardiff telling me that the panthers should not buy their success when for years both those clubs have done just that and reaped the rewards both on and off the ice....to be honest the panthers fans have shown the patience of Job whilst waiting for their turn of success....
For example, once upon a time, durham where the dominant force in uk ice hockey, good two line hockey with alot of local talent and so panthers set up their junior development program to compete. It starts to sprout good talent and we start to think it could be our turn to reap the rewards when along comes jonny lawless with his fat chequebook and says i cant wait to develop my own local talent i will buy it in... as two line hockey is the norm he storms the league and so the panthers fans get back in line thinking our time will come... Next along came the steelers and saw how easy it was in cardiff, "we have a bigger fan base hence bigger budget, so stuff em we will take on messiahs and the best of the british talent" and surprise surprise win all before them. Panthers having to play what local talent they can try hard but cant compete even close, when a good import comes in the next season he has moved up the M1, panthers fans yet again think our time will come... Next comes the london's the manchesters even the scottish eagles with their teams filled out with imported players yet mostly the panthers struggle on with their british players which get whittled down year on year plus with the wage bill slashed to maintain a team competitive is barely a word to describe some of the panthers teams... Anyway moving on to the EIHL less imports more brits you say, Great!!! we have very little local talent left given that the ISL favoured imports so new teams such as coventry and newcastle have big advantages and it shows... so now, surprise surprise teams rush to sign the best brits at all costs Tait, weaver et al moving for alleged import wages (who can blame them). However panthers are now in a position to offer the sort of deals that other teams have been able to offer for years sp please Gazza et al stop with the "oh i am really worried about the league" because to be honest 1. i dont care, panthers fans have waited long enough and deserve some success, ice hockey will be around regardless, if its not the EIHL it will be something else. 2. Panthers will make money even if they have a more expensive squad in the league (because NB is in it for the money). 3. All the teams that have bought success are still around, maybe with different owners but still around...

Mike said tonight that he wants to announce two signings in the next week to two weeks. He said they are big, key signings.
After that, he wants to slow it down and see who is available and who other teams sign so he figure out who is best for our team.
He also said better players become available the longer you wait and their wage demands come down also, so it's in his and the clubs interest to see what happens.
Besides, as he pointed out it was only this time last year he signed for us. Look how far ahead he is compared to last year. I would much rather the irhgt players in August, than immediate and possible wrong signings now.

AS i said Tex if your spending within your means and the rules, then i'll be ecstatic for you and praise every piece of silverware you win. No problems i'll enjoy doing it.
The Devils success i totally agree with you we splashed cash, that was linked in with british talent however such as Nicky Chinn, Jason Stone, richie Twonsend, Simon Keating, Neil Francis, James Manson. while on the flip side we chucked money at the coppers along with the Moria's, Mcewen's , hopes and the like.
One thing that is true though is that we never once broke a rule as there was no wage cap. We did have a screw you we are going to spend what we like and win things. But it was our downfall. The lowest low outdid the highest high sadly.
I guess thats why our challenge cup win is so special to so many people, we worked damn hard for it instead of buying it i guess.
I hope for the sports sake people arent giong into your attitude of 'other teams did it before now we'll do it to get our turn';
WE are only going to go round in circles and ultimatley teams will feel the lowest lows. again if your spending within the cap and within your means i hope you get your rewards Tex i really really do

As regards the two names being branded about earlier in the thread, I am not going to make public what a couple of folks have confided to me, enough to say dont get the names put on the back of your hockey tops just yet.

There are some officials, involved in the formation of the league, that have started to express concern at the sort of offers going out to very average players. It's been highlighted in our local press (Thommo saying that he really fears we are becoming ISL2). As for that list of points at the end, well, you come across as being a bit selfish and very myopic.

says a fan of a team that has won the league twice and several other trophies since being involved in the elite league... do you think the teams that have won have not done as others have said panthers are involved in here? Also as for Thomo in the press, well he isnt short of a quote or two a la blaiser and simms but whats to say it isnt just sour grapes?
