Now im not a rumour man But, I have from a very good source that MWB will be the new steelers coach for THIS season. And they will make it public very soon. In fact i was shocked that nobody else has posted this info already! I was told this today and the person has not been wrong before

I've also heard this and given the Steelers recent record with coaches it wouldn't surprise me. I'd give Matsos until Xmas (maybe sooner) and if he's not getting the results, expect 'Uncle Mikey' to return. The signings of Tessier and Sutter will only strengthen the rumour.

And as for Doom saying me and some one else on here started the rumour between us, oh dear me! All i was saying is what i heard Maybe you didn't start the rumour, but don't you think whoever did may have just done it to stir things up a little? I've watched enough sport over the years to never say never, but for the life of me I can't think why we'd replace Matsos with Blaiser before the season even starts.....Most of our supporters would go ballistic. I can't think Matsos would want to walk out on us, because this is his first opportunity to coach a big team. Maybe when/if he's proved himself, one of the big European/North American teams may poach him, but I can't see that happening until he's had at least 2 seasons of success. On the other hand, why would the Steelers want to get rid of him? As far as I can see he's done nothing wrong to date...If anything I'd say completely the opposite....putting together a full roster in 5 or 6 weeks has been quite an achievement. The rumour makes no sense whatsoever, so from where I'm sitting it just seems like it's mischief making on the part of somebody down the M1. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Regards Doom

The person who told me is not sort of person to say things to stir things up trust me. To be honnest i was shocked when she told me but as i said shes been right in the past. I dont know, i do think Matsos has put togther an decent looking team and I hope he stays the full season.

Bob Phillips thinks the world Of David Matsos, he would NEVER stich him up by bringing blaisdell in, after Matsos has done a superb job of steadying the Sheffield Steelers ship.
I am quite confident of whoever told you this rumour is wrong

I wouldn't object to seeing Blaiser as the Steelers coach once again in the future, but I certainly wouldn't want it to happen at the expense of Dave Matsos until he's been tried and tested. AS said.... we will see though Honestly Teddy Dave Matsos would not get treated like that by Bob Phillips, they have a really good relationship after bob looked after him when he had his injury last season, and Bob rates Matsos as a great guy. In fact after last seasons outing with you lot i cant see why Sheffield would be getting a better deal with Blaisdell replacing Matty

Everybody's a great guy - until he turns round and screws you. How many times have we seen that in British ice hockey?

Bob gets a really bad rap from some folk, but how many players/coaches has he actually fallen out with? Never been a gripe about players not getting looked after while injured. and apart from 'THAT' season where pretty much every other club were struggling to make payroll how many players havent been paid by Bob? Bob Phillips does think highly of Dave Matsos-FACT i have seen them deal with each other and i have spoken to Bob Phillips about Matsos and his off ice abilities to help a hockey club. So i can say that if Bob were to ever pull a stunt like the one alluded to in this thread i would be extremely shocked. Is Bob Phillips perfect? hell no but the guy does have respect for Dave Matsos thats for damn sure

I've heard all the bad stuff about Bob Phillips but I have nothing but good things to say about the guy after meeting him at the last game at WNIR.
He was a perfect gent, humbled by our willingness to go down and be a part of the festivities and pay tribute to the rink with a banner he intends to hang in the Devils new home.
I have no idea why he gets such bad press.

Just been looking at steeltalk and jesus do some of them seem to have got their knickers in a twist over this thread! I really feel the need to point out that me and im sure 99.9% Panthers fans DO NOT have an obsession with the Sheffield Steelers I was NOT attempting to wind up Steelers fans with the post just stating what I had been told. They really seem to get a little over excited up the M1 I heard a rumour from someone and I posted it in the rumour section I dont see a problem. No obsession No Jealousy If I heard Blaiser was going to any other club in the Elite league I would have still posted it, your not special Sheffield!

You've gotta feel sorry for Sheffield though, they still think the hockey world revolves around them. Blaisdell or no Blaisdell, how long will Matsos last if he doesn't deliver instant success?

What do you class as instant success? And as a big club (which lets be honest they are) why should they wait around for a guy who may (i dont think he will, i think he will be a success) not do the bussiness? And yet again i point to Bob Phillips doing a good job, last season Ed Patterson was on a dismal run, he kept him on and we became one of the teams to win a trophy and had a superb record after Christmas, so why will he treat Matsos any differently?

Because they are sheffield and they crap on people , end of # Other than Maxwell (allegedly) who has bob Phillips done it to? again i bring up the record of the Elite league in Cardiff where Bob has looked after everyone of his employees. Just because he owns sheffield doesnt mean he has two faces does it? and its not as if a few coaches/players havent done the dirty to the Sheffield organisation the other way is it?

Blaisdell has already agreed to come back to Sheffield , FACT. It's his wife that wants to stay in Canada , FACT. So NO , Blaisdell won't be coming back to Steelers , not that he won't in the future, but who knows about the future. The only thing I do know is that if he does come back to England , it will be to Sheffield , end of.
