There was a shot that to me and ollie44 in block 10 crossed or came extremely close to crossing the line (i think it crossed personally) and that would of put steelers 3-0 up. Thank god for askey with quick glove hand to pull it out and show it to carson as not in. Big congrats to the whole panthers organisation. One cup down, now for play off win. Making that play off in Ellis first season and hopefulyl Play off and challenge cup. Leaving next season a grand slam season. Anyone else want this?!?! I'm not that bothered about winning the play offs ... last night was our play off final ... I actually think Belfast will win the POs this season ... just as long as it isn't Sheffield

Thanks to all non panther fans offering their congratulations.
Superb night, unreal tension for long periods, but we have a team who are beginning to show a refuse to be beaten attitude in the big games, this being led by a coach whos trophy haul is increasing all the time
2 major trophys in 10 months, lets make it a 3rd on the 6th april
Well done panthers a very proud fan here right now ;D ;D ;D

Just been watching Setanta Sports news and under Ice Hockey along the top they actually have the win and agrt score.
They also did a small article on it at about 3pm, so perhaps there will be more laters. Suprised me to see this, but can only be good for the sport over all. I know they show NHL highlights the following day to any matches. So onwards and upwards

Came home early from work today exhausted after last night.
I know the majority of Sheffield will see last night simply as "a loss", but I thought they really tested us and from goal 2 until the end of the first period Panthers were rocking, but they steadied the ship and got the job done.
The home support was superb, and a big up also to the Sheffield fans who really got behind their team and made a major contribution to a fantastic atmosphere. It was great from where I sit at the bottom to look up and see thousands of faces all round the bowl, and what a noise. Just great. Sorry if you couldn't hear me: I did my best.
Incidentally, in the debate we occasionally have on here re. white/gold/black shirts, I've got to say that from where I sit it's the gold shirts that really stand out up in the stands.
I was interested to hear the brief interview with Askey on the radio this morning. He said, "Elly is trying to build something here and this is another step in the right direction." Dare we read far too much into this and infer he is interested in being a part of that process next year?

On the subject of stupid penalties, have you ever seen Panthers take two more ludicrously daft penalties?
First one where Nelson fires it out right at the start of a PK, costing us a goal. Second one where we stick the extra forward on a delayed call and manage to get too many men on the ice! It's a damn good job we won, otherwise there would have been some right criticism thrown at them.

2 major trophys in 10 months And don't forget, he won trophies at Bracknell in the two seasons before he joined us, so 4 consecutive trophy-winning seasons. If I were Neil Black I'd be signing him up for next season NOW. He represents our best chance of winning the league title. Sorry it's a bit off topic! Congratulations to all involved.

well done panthers, the professionalism showed when we were down to a 1 goal lead was brilliant. And a huge amount of credit must go to steelers for making a real go of it, you guys showed some real passion out there.
but credit must go to us aswell for although we were nowhere near our best we came up with the goals which won us the cup and helpd our nerve when it was down to a 1 goal lead. WELL DONE LADS CHALLENGE CUP WINNERS 2008

I always thought he seemed a bit miserable at the end of games even if we won but his celebration we someone handed him the trophy last night proved me wrong.

I think Ellis should be given a three year contract, this rolling one year contract (I'm assuming thats what it is) is leaving him well open to being snatched by another club. Not saying he would go but I'd like to see us tieing him up long term so he can then build up this team.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, we've got a coach who genuinely cares about this club and it's success and we should sign him up now!!

Best goalie in the league.
I'd love to see Koenig match his stats with our defence in front of him!

Think Askey will stay, look at the video on the website about the trading cards. GM asks him if he's still enjoying Nottingham and his reply is yes and adds that he hopes something can work out for the future. I read that as him saying he would like to come back

To be honest i really didnt like our tactics, we played like we were short handed from the first face off and sheffields forwards are just too good to just keep giving them the puck back and letting them come at you again ...BUT ....and its a big BUT.... regardless of the result that was an amazing game of hockey, the most entertaining since the bench clearance and i'm so glad we did it, all credit to sheffield and their fans , lets be honest the hatred and nasty stuff aint even close now to how it was in the old days , alot of new fans don't even know where the bad feeing comes from and the chants of "if you all hate steelers " should stop. Tom askey should have got mom he was incredible

Top marks are in order for those Steelers fans who have taken the time to be gracious in defeat and offer your congratulations. I don't really need to name you again as you all know who you are.
As for the game on Wednesday it was a cracker. AC was not at his best it has to be said but he didn't influence the outcome. He missed (Or let go ) a couple each way and we both got a couple of cheap calls from him. Jeff Legue took 3 pens and all of them fall into the lazy/avoidable category.Good a player as he can be this side of his game lets him down IMO.
Thank you all again. AG

We know Captain Beaky is leaving the Giants, and Dave Matsos must be under pressure up the road. Ellie is his own man, has shown he has the guts to make unpopular decisions if he thinks they are right and, as I said earlier has won trophies over the last 4 years. He represents our best chance of winning that elusive League title. If he were to leave, there don't appear to be any obvious candidates for the position already in the UK, and I can't think of a coach who has won the League in his first year in the UK, be it Elite or ISL, so much of what has been achieved over the last two seasons would be lost. My big worry is the effect his departure would have on our Brits. He is prepared to give them ice time, and I would hate to lose them.

Never trust a lawyer I can't think of a coach who has won the League in his first year in the UK, be it Elite or ISL You quoted the man in your ramblings, Ed Courtenay, Belfast Giants 2005/6. I rest my case.

Well done Panthers,. Fantastic night and a good couple of days holiday spent in Notts,. Got to find a new way to my seat now after kissing that steward,.. (but thats another story ) (..and Grumpy ,.Yes ,... it was a girl) ......But you had to check on your way back, didn't you? ;D *edit* Congratulations guys! You put us through the wringer but we will take the win and the celebration. One good thing about the Challenge Cup. The players get to celebrate and enjoy the win for a few weeks and not have to get on a plane home a couple of days after, which kind of spoiled the play-off win.

I rest my case. Yes, of course. I did say that I couldn't think of one, as opposed to "There isn't one", and I'm afraid that at shortly after 6AM, as my daughter commenced a training session at Mansfield swimming pool the little grey cells were perhaps not as sharp as they could be when I was scribbling down coaches of League Champions! I still think that my argument in favour of Ellis holds good. A certain Mr Fleury had a lot to do with Giants' win that year. On a funnier note, when I saw Milky's reply, and by now having access to a computer rather than my phone, I Googled "Ed Courtenay" and was rather amused at the title of the first link: www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=Ed+Courtenay&meta=This is the site itself www.edcourtenay.co.uk/

Fleury had much more to do with that title than Courtenay, I'm pretty sure of it
