I feel it only right I should give up residence of the stage end box and move into what was considered Andy’s second home in front of block 10 I think as far as us off-ice folks are concerned, from now on teams will attacking/defending either the stage end or Andy's end. Seems appropriate to me.

Iam in shock at the moment - totally stunned .
I remember Andy very well - all those times we all travelled to all the away games on our trusty Silverdale bus - Andy making us laugh , Mum and Dad Smith giving Cate and I a 'drop of the good stuff' (blackberry wine if I remember correctly) , the sing songs , the Scotland trips, the NOBS - all good times!! Then , Andy and Cate, along with the rest of the gang, giving me a going away party when I left for Canada - how could I ever forget !!!
I am so sorry this had to happen to a great guy and a lovely family. I am still trying to come to terms with it and the photos Stef posted to Jeff and me brought back even more memories. He will be truly missed!!
My thoughts go out to the Cate, Jeff and the family. We have lost one in a million!
Andy, give Dave and Margaret a big YO-OH from all of us - we'll miss you!

As many of you may know Andy Smith the goal judge had recently had surgery. Unfortunately he took a turn for the worse on Saturday and I`m very sorry to say that he has died. It has come as a great shock to everyone who knew him and he will be missed by everyone involved in hockey not only in Nottingham but all over the country by the many friends he has made. Not only was he a goal judge for the Panthers but he also helped out with the juniors when needed.

Great reminders of legendary trips and proper hockey. And Andy was at the centre of most of it.
Just so everyone is clear, in the photo with Captain Fantastic Terry Kurtenbach, the chap in the middle isn't Andy, although he looks like we felt after one of our Scottish weekenders. The white blob in Cate's arms is her and Andy's son Grant, attending his first Panthers game aged 11 days.
Fantastic tribute. Thanks Jeff.

Thank you for all the kind messages about my dad, I know he will be missed by many as alot of you have said he can light up the room as soon as he walks though the door with his cheesy grin. It's going to be hard to go to panthers with out him as it was a bit family thing for us but we know he will be sat watching the game from heaven with russ. I have been sorting out all the photos of dad and he's some of them for you all to look at you might recognise yourself in some of them. s128.photobucket.com/albums/p166/F_R_Smithuk/Dad/Dad will be missed by many RIP will love you always

Can't seem to open them pics myself but don't stop going to the games Fran. I lost my two nephews and my dad in a two year period. We had a dedicated game we sponsored to them and mentioned all those that had been lost to us over the years. It was the same week Russ Timmins died and I collected the puck when we had played and lost in a Cup semi at home to Ayr. My Mum , Sister and brother-in-law still go to this day. It might help keep you in touch, if you know what I mean. All those people who know you, Andy etc...

I have spent some time reading the above posts about the very sad passing of Andy Smith. Having been to every home game in the last three seasons i have seen Andy on many occassions. It has slowly dawned on me, after looking at the pictures that I knew Andy many years ago. We spent some time together in our mid teens, around 1976/77 maybe earlier. My memory is not all it should be but i do remember he had a brother, Jeff. I visited his home so i must have met his mum. Being teenagers we soon lost touch and as our lives moved in different directions, i never saw Andy again. I was very sorry to hear of his passing and i would like to send my sincere condolances to his family and friends. He was obviously a very much loved and respected man.
Tracey.

Andy was my “big bro in-law” I`m his “kid bro`s” wife. I will miss him loads. Ill miss his noise!, his laugh!, his sense of humour!, his smile!, but most of all i`ll miss our little chats, I could really talk to Andy he was a fantastic listener. He, Cate, Grant and Fran have always made me feel so welcome. We have had some brilliant times together on day trips, party`s and just in their company, so i`m blessed to have some great memories to cherish for ever.
Sundays will never be the same!
Love Julie xxx

We've just sorted out the funeral arrangements well its going to be a celebration of his life. Its going to be on Thursday 7th February, 12:00 at St Mark's Church in Woodthorpe and then 1:15 at Bramcote crematorium. Anyone who wishes to attend is very welcome but please wear hockey shirts and bright colours as dad was not into doom and gloom.

May I add my condolences to those already expressed.
I did not know Andy personally, but obviously by sight due to his many years' service as a goal judge.
I bear a vague resemblance to Andy (so they tell me), and have been mistaken for him on a couple of occasions. Notably by Forum member Tambo, with whom I got off on the wrong foot due to Andy's decision on a disputed goal line call in a match against Ayr!
Rest in Peace Andy and best wishes to family and friends.

Keith Swain has asked me to post a message on his behalf. It relates to the photo on Jeff's photobucket page ( s89.photobucket.com/albums/k222/jeff_jane/andy/ ) of Andy, Marg Wheeldon (also sadly departed) and Cate on the bench. "Lots of memories of Andy from hockey going back years, mainly comical ones. Here's a photo I took on a scottish weekend around 1983. It was the morning after an Ayr game and it was the norm to get some fresh air and clear our heads from the night before. As we wandered along a very windy beach front Andy spotted this bench, which looked like it had blown over so severe was the wind, sat down on it and made a freezing morning seem a lot cheerier. Always the comic, cracking sense of humour. Thanks for the memories. Keith"
