Ok. In the end I settled on my 5 relatively easily. In no order.
1) 86/87 win vs. Fife. Pretty self explanatory really. It had been a slow, steady and at times depressing journey from pipe dream to Norwich Union Cup Winners - a fact that made victory all the more sweet - we knew that win had been worked for every step of the way - not bought for us.
2) 88/89 Play-off victory. My memory of the game isn't that great. The first images that come to mind are of straw hats and daffodils. My brother lost the video we had asked a friend to record for us. I still haven't completely forgiven him.
3) TK's return. I was going to put this before I read it mentioned above. I was reminded of the occasion when I took my girlfriend to her first game at Romford the other week. For some reason, I always think it happened when he was playing for Guildford - but I'm aware nobody else agrees! For those that weren't there - this was back in the time when each and every player (both home and away) were individually introduced to the crowd. All players lined up on the goal-lines, and when there name was read out, skated forward to the blue line ready for the national anthem. Now this usually gave us the chance to "greet" the opposition villains with a predictable chorus of boos. When Terry's name was read out (in his first reappearance at LPS since leaving Panthers) he was treated to an ovation the like I have never seen since. TK's clear embarrassment went only some way to marking the sheer class of the man.
4) Selmar vs. Mike Rowe. Another one now steeped in folklore, and another one where my memory differs slightly to that of others. Anyway, my side of the story is: Rowe was the notorious bully of the league, regularly cheap-shotting his way through games. Selmar was our classy import defenceman, who had not previously been known to drop the gloves. In around 30 seconds of action, we discovered why. After one too many cheap-shots Selmar had had enough. He dropped the gloves centre ice and gestured to Rowe with that Primary school headteacher come here motion with the index finger. Rowe reluctantly engaged - was hit once in the gut, making hime bend over, once on the head, seeing him hit the floor, and many more times in the face as Selmar stood over his victim. A deserved hiding if ever there was one.
5) The 3 goals in 93 secs (IIRC) scored by us vs Sheffield at the end of the second period of the 96 playoff final. We were 3-0 down and in trouble. Kelham robbed WIlson and beat Cowley top shelf; Randall deflected a Waghorn blast through traffic; Tait put away a rebound after good work by Blaiser and Neil Morgan. If the period had not ended - we would have won. If heaven feels as good as when that 3rd one went in - I'll be happy.

Christ, where to begin.
In more ancient times, there was: - the moment Mike Rowe lost his reputation - the endless game against Ayr and Jeff Hoad's winner - Dave Simms getting battered out of LPS by an old woman with a handbag - THAT comeback against Cardiff, we were about 4/5 down in the final period and won - of course the final LPS game!
In the new rink era: - the bench clearance - the chocolate bob goal - Boynton's screamer - putting 8 past Sheffield - the challenge cup final - and of course, who could forget the first time the horseman made it to the back?

I`ve been watching Panthers since they reformed so i`ve got loads of memories, and reading steff`s comments usually bring back loads.
like alot of the other posters among some of my favs are;
Selmar v Rowe THAT goal from Kimmy Jordan Willis fighting with Mikko Koivunoro i think it might have been during the first game at the NIC losing against Durham Wasps at wembley in the early 90s and finally A trip to watch Panthers play Blackpool Seagulls, when the supporters club booked a train just for Panthers fans. Ican remember the train station totally taken over by us. We even managed to get a photo of us in the Evening post. Unfortunately i can`t remember the score but i think Panthers won.

Also in no particular order
- Semi-final win against Ayr at the MEN. Ayr fans in the next block chanting all game about Panthers going home, then the look on their faces when we pulled back three (?) odd goals in about 5 minutes, then Hoad's winner in sixth period of OT. -B & H Final against Cardiff. 7-3 win and Blazers Hat-trick. I seem to remember Tait hooking their minders skates away, and Brebant scoring in the "empty" net from a tight angle. Their Minder went mental at the ref. -Bench clearance against Shef. Nieckar really did destroy Vial, then Allison tried it on, then all hell broke loose. Fantastic. -B & H final against Ayr. Won 2-1, Virta got both goals, threw his glove in the air, and shot it down with his "machine gun" stick (I think, I was bladdered at the time) -My all time fav, B & H semi final, 2nd leg against Storm in the old building. Trailing 3-1 on aggregate, 11 out-skaters against fully fit Kleindorst's team, and Kolesar scoring the game winner on a deflection/tip-in. He raised his arms to the heavens and glided up to the plexi at the away fan's end, smiling at their fans. The atmosphere in the building was the best I've ever experienced. -and comedy best, Blazer squirting Taggart with his water bottle in Peterborough, and then being escorted out the building by some dodgy looking minders, and busting the door on his way out.

30th March 1986. Victory away at Streatham and Playoff qualification for the first time (oh and my first ever game. I thought no one else would remeber this one but Smudge beat me to it)
Kord Cernich and his final game hattrick, from a man who got nose bleeds when crossing his own blue line. (I still have my 'stay at home defenceman' T shirt)
9th January 93 Kevin Murphy's first game in charge (Alex had gone to them up the road). Within 2 minutes the entire bench had got on the ice for a shift and the (at the time) mighty Cardiff Devils were beaten in a 6-5 thriller (but it all went downhill from there)
Darren Schwartz's all too brief appearances. He turned up so unfit he struggled to skate from red line to blue line, but still scored goals. He hit harder than Darcy Lowen (I remember a hit on Anthony Payne at MK. He didn't seem to want the puck for the rest of the match). In his last game he picked on a poor unfortunate to showcase his boxing skills. He dropped him with his first punch but still got in three or four more before he hit the deck.
12th February '94. Old time hockey. We were 4-0 down at the first break but won 20-6. OK it was only Teeside who let in 491 goals in 44 games and the game was quite boring really but you can't forget a scoreline like that.
There are also so many others that have already been mentioned; Selmar vs. Rowe; vs. Milan in Amiens; Jeff Hoad's short handed 6th OT winner vs Ayr; 7-2 B+H cup vs Cardiff; that Manchester semi; Hunty removing 'Whistling' Les Millies teeth...
And so many heartbreaks; 0.2s; penalty shots at Wembley; Foulka awarding Ayr a goal after 2 minutes unbroken play, it had come back off the bar, we lost our rag and on the endless powerplays Ayr went from humiliating defeat to victory and marched on to the grand slam; losing 9-8 at the tin shed after coming back from 6-1 behind to tie the game but running out of steam, then blowing the league; every time we lose to them;
And for amusement purposes only we have; Jarret Zukiwsky entertaining us and the debates on whether he was any good or not; Marty Dallman nipping off for a cigarette; sewerage flooding the dressing room at Peterborough (and the rink staff tackling it with a vacuum cleaner); the Durham clock running backwards...
Oh dear, time to reassign this post to Amnesia Lane

Jon Purves scoring the best shorthanded goal of all time away to London Knights. He picked up the puck inside his own zone and beat every player on the ice (or so it seemed) before dekeing the netminder and scoring on the backhand. Anyone who was at the Docklands that day will know how good a goal it was! Not that it made alot of difference, we lost 6-3. I think I'm right in saying that was the night after the 8-2 win over Sheffield.

Ok heres my 5, in no particular order there is an explanation of each below for those who can be bothered to read them
A) The 19-2 Demolition of Murrayfield in the B&H Cup B) The 1996 Wembley final loss to Sheffield C) Challenge cup victory vs Sheffield D) 1994 B7H Cup win vs Cardiff 7-4 E) My first match B&H cup match vs Peterbourgh 15-3 (1993)
A) I watched this one live on TV as the case in those days, tickets where practically impossible to get hold. If I remember right, we scored at will I think Simon Hunt got 6. I remeber they interviewed him between periods and there was so much steam coming off his head! Also memorable as my friend Chris's step dad Paul was on TV celebrationg one of the goals and that clip was used for years on the opening credits of Ice Hockey games they would show on TV. RIP Paul
B) Why did I choose a loss to them lot? well, Wembley had such a great atmosphere and I wasn't at the 89 final. This was my first Wembley weekend and subsequently, the last as they moved it to NYNEX the next year. We beat Duram in the semis 3-1 the Wasps were a side who we were never guarranteed victory over, infact I was more worried about facing them than anyone else. We lost to the Steelers in the final, on penalties. We took them to the limit and the game could have gone either way. Doc Durdles pen miss, and the Panthers fans with yellow Marigold gloves, what was that all about? Anyone remember? Pretty funny
C) HAVE SOME OF THAT
D) A great team that had a fine mix of quality imports and eager young brits, remind you of anyone hmmm? should have won the league that year.
E) Personal to me, I'd been trying to get to a game for a while but tickets where so hard to get back then. The atmosphere was something I had never witnessed before, and against a Pirates team that never stood a chance the Ice Stadium was still full to capacity. It made you feel like you were part of something special and I knew that I would be back again and again. My friend was filling me in on the rules and the team and he said "watch out for Darren Schwartz hes a psycho" but he was gone not long after damn.

Stef will be pleased to hear that we've now passed the 70 mark for nominations. That's good. I reckon we ought to be able to come up with at least 100, which is a reasonable number from which to pick 20. I can think of a few 'moments' that haven't been mentioned yet, one or two of which I'm a bit surprised haven't been put forward.

1. Away at Durham 9/4/88 in play offs - the bride, groom, brides father and half the wedding guests listening to the game on car radios in the car park of the reception place. We arranged the date specially so there was no home game!
2. Play off game 1989 when we got through to Wembley semis for first time.
3. 1989 semis and finals - and not being able to speak for 3 days!
4. Selmar v Rowe - outstanding!
5. Kim's goal in that Cup game at That Place!
Trouble is with this type of memory jogging, the more you think about it the more superb moments come to mind!

My magical moments in no particular order:-
1. The many goals of my hero Marty Dallman!!! and seeing him in between periods having a pint and ciggie in the stick room.
2. The pure genius of Trevor Robbins, one class goaltender..".the roof the roof the roof is on fire"
3. Bob the builders gooooaaaal in newcastle to save the day!! what a night to remember, I nearly fell to my death over the steps screaming with exitement, if it wasn't for my matey Simon saving me, to which I thank him.
4. Play off final 04/05, oh so very close!
5. At last the win gainst Coventry 4-0 last Jan, so very victorious, and the horseman doing ' Easy Easy' what a shocker to us all, but so very fitting!!
6. The B+H cupfinal at Sheffield, the atmosphere was just out of this world, me and Bangontheglass had a massive hangover....in the 2nd period!!!! a magical moment we'll never forget.
7. Armageddon. 5-0 victory!! the revenge we the fans had been waiting for, ooh the frustration, then the goals... "whooosh its behind you" A shut out in the house of steel....whooohooo!!! and of course not leaving out our very own bench clearence...
we have so many many more memmories between us all, it just makes ya glad that ya an ice hockey fan doesn't it!!!

'tis true - wasn't Lee playing for Bracknell and Rowe gave him a career and possibly more serious injury that Selmar exacted retribution for?

I can think of a few 'moments' that haven't been mentioned yet, one or two of which I'm a bit surprised haven't been put forward. There's one more that I remember..... Last year in the old barn - we're hosting Cardiff. The Devils player Todd Gillingham (always reminded me of Bluto from 'Popeye' cartoons) had been gooning it up all night - slashing, cross-checking, I think he checked Jamie Leach headfirst into the boards - that kind of thing - and had been getting away with it all evening. Near the end of the game, Calle Carlsson scores the GWG with a slapshot from the blueline that makes Stevie Lyle's head spin like something from 'The Exorcist'. With that out of the way, it's time for some retribution. Greg Hadden (about a foot shorter than Bluto!) just absolutely levels Gillingham, and - without even waiting for the ref to signal a penalty or anything - skates quite happily over to the penalty box with a little 'job done!' smile on his face... ;D (us in Block 2 were going nuts by this point).

My top 5 moments would be-
1. Autumn Cup final at NEC. Errat winner in OT, and before the game, Fife fans running in the stands with a banner that read "Preserve wildlife - Pickle a Panther" - classic
2. Winning play-offs at Wembley - getting soaked in champagne from the person behind on the final hooter.
3. Last night at LPS. Going on the ice at the end and removing seat.
4. Ayr and Murrayfield brawls in 1984? Still think they were better than the Sheffield bench clearances.
5. Eric on the organ. Made the atmosphere special in LPS. Also, when he played "3 blind mice" when the ref and linos were leaving the ice at end of period - place was in stitches. Think he got a 3 game ban for it to boot.

If no one posts them in the meantime then you'll just have to post them come Friday Stef I can't really post and then pick my own moments, can I. But I am very suprised that what I think was the most significant evening of the modern era hasn't come up yet. Perhaps someone might be able to get their brain cells working like a dynamo and come up with it.

Perhaps someone might be able to get their brain cells working like a dynamo and come up with it. Is that a subtle hint? As a kick in the nads. Another personal one from me. I'm talking moments within games, not championship/cup wins. Just things I remember clearly, misty eyes not withstanding. Gardsy leaving the ice in tears after his final game. Hope he comes back for the 60th Anniversary game. Oh yeah, Nieckar decking a London Knight (Jutras or one of the other bums) after he had a go at him with the sweetest left hook you've ever seen, until he then did the same to Rushforth who came wading in and playing the hard man. Two punches, two Knights despatched lying side by side on the ice. Right in front of the bench Stef. You'd have had the best view in the house. Nieckar picked up his glove and found himself a comfy seat in the box without needing an invitation.

Another one or two from me, again more a personal memory that a major victory but the previous post's mention of Graham Garden reminded me of this.
We were playing the London Knuckledraggers and Andy Bezeau crosschecked Gards in the back and he collided heavily with the glass and boards right in front of block 9, where I used to sit on the front row.
What Bezeau didn't realise was that Graham's better half (Mrs Garden to you and I) was also sat on the front row of block 9 and upon witnessing this disgraceful act of aggression on her husband, proceeded to make a bloody good attempt to climb over the boards and glass in order to let Bezeau know exactly what she thought of him. I think it was only the intervention of others that stopped her from getting over so she just gave him a load of verbal instead and boy, did she have a voice on her or what.
Another favourite memory of mine was Jarret happily accepting Nicky Chinn's offer to jump off the bench and join him for a fight. Jarret beat the living daylights out of him. Tremendous.

Apparently Selmar is on Radio Sheffield this Wednesday with a pre recorded interview and he talks about that fight. The programme usually starts just after 7pm.
