As you've probably already noticed, this season the Nottingham Panthers reach a very special landmark as we celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the foundation of the original club. Others may mock our lack of success over the years but none of them can mock our club's heritage. We're one of only two clubs in the whole of British ice hockey to be around to witness such an important milestone in our club's history and this is something we can all be very proud of. In order to mark this special occasion the club have done several things including design a new commemorative club badge, raised a new banner and organised a special match night on the anniversary of the very first competative game on November 22nd 1946.
We thought why not let the fans be involved in our sixtieth anniversary celebrations. Therefore after some planning we're pleased to announce:
NOTTINGHAM PANTHERS - SIXTY YEARS - TWENTY MOMENTS
This is the first of a number of polls to celebrate our sixtieth anniversary. With a little help from a renowned Nottingham Panthers expert (Stef) we're looking for the twenty moments in Nottingham Panthers history that our fans hooked up to the internet look back on most fondly. This can be anything; an entire season, a cup win, final, normal game, goal or fight. Absolutley anything! To begin with we're simply looking for you to nominate the moments you'd like considering for inclusion on the final list. Once everyone has made their nominations they'll be sent to Stef who'll be given the task of reducing the number to the final twenty. The final ranking will then be determined in a special poll by Panthers supporters and we'll be asking for your tales of those moments too!
Please bear in mind
Each person can have up to five nominations. These are not final votes so if you have more than five moments you'd like to nominate look back on what other people have chosen. If a moment you want to pick has already been mentioned it will be considered for the final list even if you don't post it.
The 1950-51 and 1953-54 English National League winning seasons and the 1955-56 Autumn Cup and British National League winning season are automatically nominated for inclusion on the final list.
The closing date for this stage of the poll is Sunday October 8th 2006.
After that day all the nominations will be recorded and sent off to Stef who will select the final list of twenty. These will then be posted on The Cage Forum in chronological order and users will be determine the final order. More details about that later.
Happy posting folks!

Panthers beating Ayr in OT of the semi final, at the MEN. I always tell people about that game. It was a classic.

I taped the commentary from Radio Nottingham and it still brings a tear to my eye even now.

1. Autumn Cup Final win v Fife - Our first trophy since reforming. 2. Wembley Play-Off Championships 1989 - Our first (& only) such success. 3. Challenge Cup Final victory at Sheffield - After all those losses! 4. B&H Semi v Manchester - An atmosphere that has never been bettered (except maybe the Wembley SF loss to Hull). 5. The 94/95 Season collapse - Painful, but certainly memorable.

Alot of choices but ones that spring to my mind are:-
1. Semi final win against all odds against manchester with Kolesar being everywhere apart from goal and robins being outstanding. 2. hattrick by Blaisdell who proved he still had it in the B&H final proving that at that time he still cared about nottm. 3. Nieckar destroying Vial against sheffield then picking him up like a rag doll to drag him across to the steelers fans to beat him up some more (not politcally correct i know but boy was it funny) 4. THE bench clearance game to end all bench clearances where we beat em up then proceeded to stop the showboat that was at the time a very strong wagebusting steelers team that were beating all in their path to record a very unexpected win. 5. Wembley.... all those years were we were an ever present team, never has there been such a great atmosphere at the playoffs with ALL the fans just having a great time together, shame we only won it the once but it was just great to have a team there to support.

Couldn't agree more Tex. It was a game which meant we didn't finish bottom of the league and therefore qualified for the play offs. A nothing game. Still sticks in my memory over and above that win in Sheffield. I think it was the bus trip up there, all of us mates, all of us bladdered, the whole experience. God knows what I'd be like if we ever won the league.

Selmar v Mike Rowe.
Craig Melancon in full flight. Few players have the ability to win games on their own, he was one of them.
Jim Gauthier's game winning goal v (I think) Whitley Bay timed at 59.59 on the old ice stadium clock - no digital timing back in those days. The arguements over whether the hooter had blown went on long into the night.
Beating Streatham for the first time at LPS.
The unstoppable forward line of Hadden, Adey, Zukiwsky. How the hell did we not win the league that season?!
P.S. Any thought to producing some sort of brochure/one-off fanzine to get all these memories down in print?

My choices would be.
1) Bob Nordmark's goal that took us to the playoffs
2) Simon Hunt's fight against Les Millie - superb centre ice action
3) Selmar Odelein's destruction of Mike Rowe
4) Randall Webers final game in the Black and Gold
5) 5 - 0 Thrashing of Sheffield in playoffs 2001

After that day all the nominations will be recorded and sent off to Stef who will select the final list of twenty. No pressure there, then. Could I also point out that, contrary to appearances, I am not old enough to have personal recollection of the first incarnation of the team (1946-1960), but if there are any nominations from that era I do have one or two contacts with whom I can discuss them.

- The last game in LPS, where the clock stopped with 1 second to go, all the Panthers on the ice after meeting the players, and the fans with their screwdrivers taking their seats. Did we win that game against Sheffield? I can't remember! - Beating Manchester 14-2 in the cup semi final, can't remember who scored but one of the goals was a slap shot from the point, I think Rick Brebant (of the Panthers) saw our player winding up, and jumped over the shot... goalie didn't have a chance. Oh and that was on TV too! (My claim to fame when Dad and I were filmed as part of the audience on most of the goals!)

1. The cheer that went up when Jinman's name was announced on his return to the Black & Gold. 2. KKs hat-trick 04/05 season (I think). The man was pure class both on and off the ice 3. Weber's 'perfect' hat-trick against Manchester 4. Horseman reaching the top of the stairs for the first time! 5. Paws in the mascot race about 6 years ago, turning round and cross-checking one of the other mascots. Comedy gold!

1:CC final win at Sheffield,i`ll never forget that! 2:8-2 win over Sheffield. 3:The Nick Boynton goal in the play off finals 2004/2005 and that game in general,so near yet so far and all with "you`ve got no chance"being chanted by them lot. 4:Blaisdell being announced as returning. It sticks out because it upset the Squeelers so much, pity he didn`t make the grade though! 5:Craigheads hat-trick against Shuff at our place! He had his faults but he had a lot of skill and passion for the game and for Panthers! And Shuff hated him!!

Better add mine!
1. Simon Hunt's double hatrick and the 19-2 Benson & Hedges Cup demolition of the Edinburgh Racers. 2. Beating the Devils 7-2 to win the cup later on that season with Mike Blaisdell getting a hat-trick. 3. Finally beating Ayr in overtime in the 1996 playoff semi final after nearly two hours of play. 4. Trevor Robins becoming the first ever opposition goaltender to shut out the Steelers at Sheffield Arena and the hilarious mardy that the Steelers threw after we went 4-0 up by clearing the bench. 5. Kim Ahlroos ending years of missery and disappointment at the hands of the Steelers with THAT overtime goal.

Wow cool thread.
On a personal level Id have to name the 94 B&H cup win as it was my first memory (other games I went to before that didnt grab me or make me wanna go back). Also the other B&H cup wins on sheffield ice, got sweeter everytime.
Everything we did in 98/99, Zukiwski Hadden and Adey... as a Second line!!
Ahlroos's goal rates up there just because Id just set a team up in sheffield and it was great to go training to rub it in
Signing Nick Boynton and not being able to do anywork that day for keep thinking it was some kind of wind up.
Everytime we had a good game in the MEN/Nynex, so many fans and such a professional outfit, felt great being up there with a battling team
Zukiwski vs Chinn/Rubachuk
Last night of the LPS
Amiens
06-07, the season pride was restored and Rouen??!

Nordmark's goal definitely gets a nomination from me, but my most memorable moment has to be Randall Weber scoring a short-handed goal in his final home game for Panthers against the Storm in the 2001/2(?) playoffs.

Surely a mention of when Greg Hadden scored against Belfast at the NIC to overtake Ed Courtenay on the all time superleague goals list.
He skated in two on one with Jason Elders left wing side and snapped a wrist shot over the shoulder of Ryan Bach. He got another that game to complete a hattrick. It was a fantastic achievement that will never be bettered from a man who bled black and gold.

I know it's already been mentioned, but AMIENS has my top vote! It was an amazing weekend and we certainly flew the british flag high! And THAT save from Cruicker! Again, it's already been mentioned but 04/05 playoff final against Coventry, we were unlucky to be beaten by an extremely strong Coventry side.
I know that there's loads i've forgotten, but they're just the ones that stick out to me.

Fred Perlini's debut in 1986. Coming on to the ice last and waving his stick around his head as the whole stadium erupted. Then on his first shift scoring the first of the 93 goals that he scored for us that season. Also Perlini trying to rack up the penalties at the end of the league season so that his tally would be set back to zero for the playoffs.
Panthers equalising against Murrayfield at Wembley only for Davie Graham to let a soft shot between his legs seconds later to lose the semi final. That game had the highest and lowest points that I have ever had as a Panthers fan.
Paul Adey going coast to coast at Sheffield to score an absolute peach. Cant remember which game it was in though.
Selmar Odelein's demolition of Mike Rowe.
Amiens. Although if we leave it another month Rouen could be on the list.
