The day of a cup-final. Normally I'd have a sense of excitement and anticipation. Today I just feel empty. 3 weeks ago I was telling anyone who'd listen that we'd win both legs of the final any carry off the trophy. Unfotunately events and performances over the last few weeks leave me with a sense of dread & forboding. I just can't see anything other than a Steelers victory, as much as it pains me to say it. Sums up how im feeling right now perfectly Jono! You've said it better than I ever could!! I was filled with the utmost confidence a few weeks ago but now...in a way i'm actually dreading tonight. Because I know how tense it will be, and how gutted I'll feel if it goes wrong. The only reason I'm excited about tonight is because I haven't seen a hockey game in over two weeks, and its killed me...just ask my friends, I've been driving them crazy! I think as well that its not helped by the fact that its not a one-off and I'm not travelling away, so doesn't have that extra edge. But hey, theres 120 minutes of hockey left to be played, and I'm still clinging to the thread of hope there is left!! And will be cheering the boys on, and having faith in them, for every single one of those 120. Go Panthers

I don't know why but i've just got a funny feeling about tonight, i think we're going to stuff em ! Irrespective of Adey's mis-givings i believe that tonight is the night, there really isn't any rational reason for thinking this, we've lost every final against the Squeelers & current form is dreadful. But we clearly have the better team man for man so it's all going to be down to motivation & surely tonight our guys will want to do it for US and that will be motivation enough !
Come on Panthers !!

Very Tense, very close game. Excellent defending by both sides, and officiated very well by Kirkham, Hicks & Coenen. I think that is the most effort I have seen a Panthers team put in this season, they matched the Steelers in every department. Great goal by Clarkey, and nice to see a Brit score against the Anti-Brits It's all or nothing in Sheffield now, a proper Cup Final. I'm feeling a tad more optimistic than I did earlier, but not much!

I'd like to say a huge "well played" to the Panthers - tonight's game was brilliant. Well done Paul, you certainly had the team up for it tonight.
Can't say I was that impressed with the ref - he wasn't spotting a hell of a lot of dirty stuff done by the Steelers - punches on the back of the head, stick holding, illegal checks etc.
So, let's really get behind our Panthers in the second game and bring back that trophy!
Oh, and can someone give Ryan Lake the spanking that he deserves!

Agreed Jono Very Very Tense. The lads gave everything tonight. Excellent 4 minute kill in the 3rd. I thought that's where it would get away from us, but we hung in there. Same again next Wed, with hopefully the odd bounce of the puck going our way. Game on.

Well done guys, you all gave your all.
We were very unlucky tonight IMO, a few more bounces and we may have left with a lead.
Thought JC was good tonight, he gave Steelers hell all night and did a great job of draining energy from Darling and Peron.
It's also good to see that we were able to compete with Sheffield which gives me massive hope for CC and playoffs.
Come on Panthers.... ;D

I don't think the referee was that bad tonight, I have seen a lot worse performances from the stripeys.

Not got time(need sleep) for much detail but here are a few of my thoughts and feelings.
1st off, well done to all the players, they defended for their lives tonight and most of the time(apart from the odd wasted dump and chase) look good going forward. It was very tense through out but every played well and worked hard. Especially Joel who may not have had the puck very much but worked 150% chasing and closing down. Also to JC who as well as playing well did his enforcing role perfectly tonight. Would up the Steelers and managed to control his temper 905 of the time.
2nd: The ref was awful at times with some decisions. Jc's 10 min mis conduct for a start? ? and then not allowing him to go off the ice early even though he was out for the rest of that period. Whats that all about?? Also calling a call against Jinners for something when it was clearly one sided. How he decided to give both men a peno instead of just the Steeler I don't know!
3rd and most importantly: A big round of applause for all us Panthers fans tonight. I may only have been into Hockey for a year or so now but I'd hazard a guess that that is the loudest the new rink has ever been? I'm not one to say obviously but I have never heard so much noise from Panthers fans in my time, even in complete sell outs against the steelers never mind only 3/4 full.
Won't mention the incident at the end of the game as I couldn't see if as I was on that side of the rink looking down, but from what I gather the fan involved wants a life ban from the Arena and the players should have a stern telling off/ban for their reactions. I appreciate that they had been wound up and understand why they reacted like that but that doesn't mean it was right. They are paid to be proffessional which means acting in a proffessional manner and not rising to things like this.
Anyway enough for now, sleep needed before a 6am start in morning.

Re the incident at the end of the game, some Prat threw a drink over Blaisdell. He wasn't even sitting near the bench but seemed to appear at the end of every period & give out loads of verbals. He soon dissapeared when he was pointed out to Mike. The bluecoats I spoke to reckon they know who he is & should be caught on camera. We don't need idiots like this in our game .

Due to various reasons I couldn't make the game but I've heard plenty of good things.
Positives: 100% effort from fans and players alike Adey having a go at Blazer. That's more like it geezer!! We didn't lose and restored some pride.
Negatives: We didn't win and I fear they'll break our hearts in the cruelest way again Only an average sized crowd for such a big game. Why they are mid-week games is beyond me. An idiot threw [apparently] his pint over MB. This not only upsets me because of the sheer numptyness of it but also the wasting of a perfectly good beer. Didn't this guy realise how long it takes to get served in the NIC?! I missed JC's Oscar-like performance!!
Not a great result but at least we've still got a damn sight more chance of winning than Man U!

Everyone looked up for it, plenty of passion and commitment, a big game from Sunny. Some indifferent reffing - eg the call on Jinners and no call when Mopes got hooked just before their goal. All set up for a stormer next week. Squealers will still be favourites but we have shown we can compete, and if we play as a team no reason why we can't win. Disappointing crowd in terms of size - always the case with midweek games - but a great noise. Hopefully last night's scoreline will encourage more Panthers fans to travel next week. Bring on the Tent of Tin!

Great game last night even though Kirkham was obvisouly watching Eastender on the inside of his visor.
I have to say a big congratualtions to the Panthers for coming out looking like they actually wanted to win as opposed to that horrible game against the Steeleres the other week.
Big thumbs up to the fans too. After moving to Nottingham from Edinburgh, where 400 fans make a massive noise, to the NIC it was very nice to hear the Panthers fans singing in one voice for a change as opposed to acting like they are in a library. Long may it continue as it must lift the team to REALLY hear the fans behind them.

(apologies in advance, this got longer than I intended! ) I really enjoyed that game. With Panthers not conceding an early goal or two, it meant Steelers actually had to play some interesting hockey, and they didn't disappoint. Both sides gave it everything, although we still have that frustrating tendency to rush up the wing then stop, waiting for the other forwards to catch up. But that also lets the Steelers defence get set up. And how many times did Cadotte get left floating on the blue line, with no support. The defence could just push him away from the puck. If we work on getting round their players instead of trying to go through them, I think we'll surprise them up there. Kirkham... he's the best ref we have, but last night he did miss a lot. I thought it was a good move of him to call the first tit-fer-tat on JC and DD, setting the tone, and he pretty much maintained it. If he saw something, he didn't muck around. But the penalty to Jinman confused everyone. And Slasher Bronsard got away with one on JCs legs just before he got penalised for... slashing... Struch got away with probably the most blatant trip of the night. But that was a really enjoyable game. I wouldn't have complained if Steelers had squeeked a 2-1 win, because overall they were just about the better side. Shame about the idiocy after the whistle, but then, it wouldn't be a Panthers-Steelers clash without a bit of controversy. It'll be interesting to read what spin each side puts on it in the local press. So it was beer was it? Someone last night had said a girl spat at Blaisdell. What I saw was Peron climbing the barriers waving his stick threateningly apparently at a teenage girl who was giving full voice at Blaisdell, with a linesman trying to pull him down. What chance a disciplinary slap for bringing the game into disrepute? Ban the idiots in the crowd who spat/threw beer, but if players representing the club and the league are seen (possibly on TV?) trying to assault a member of the crowd, that's got to be stomped on. Of course, it's not that I want someone as good as Peron to be banned for next week, or anything ;D Has the disciplinary panel sat at all this year? Last year there was about one case a week. I haven't heard of any this year. Is that because the stakes are lower? The players are more mature? Teams can't afford to hire expensive goons? Best game out of JC for a while. Will anyone take a bet on what number shirt Craighead will be wearing when he's playing for Sheffield next year?

Does Craighead's match penalty mean that he'll miss a league match or will he miss the 2nd leg?
Well played panthers keep it up for the 2nd leg, the steelers D looked knackered at the end of the match.

Steelers = clutch and grab - Me = bored Thougt officials were mediocre to say the least, but it was one particular double call that confused me: at the end of the 1st period Dutiaume 2mins interference - Jinman 2mins roughing. sense then another couple of double calls were 2mins each for roughing, when i think a bit of "slap and tickle" was more appropriate. Good to see a slightly more exciting game after the game on the 28th. Good to see fans/coach and players giving it 100%

I don't know why everyone says we play clutch and grab hockey ;D
Every team in the league is guilty of it at some point but the Steelers are seen like this because we won the league as we cheated by playing this style of hockey. If the ref doesn't see it then we can't be playing dirty, or is the referee a Steeler again.

It's not a case that Steelers cheated by clutch & grab hockey, but you have to take it on the chin that it's a very very ugly way to play hockey & your team's going to get criticised by the opposition for it. Okay, you won a championship by that method, and fair play to you. But it's still ugly to watch none the less
