The quick rise to cult hero status of a certain Mr Rovnianek, coupled with the current "seasons best netmnider" poll on talk hockey has got me thinking,..
How does Rasto measure up against our all time faves ?
I like Rasto and he has done wonders for the morale levels of the club and the fans,.. but as a goalie where does he stand against other custodians in the history of the club ?,...
and as he has been with us a short time and considering the stage of his career,..have we seen the best he can be,.. or indeed ,..seen him at his best.
Indeed,.. how long will he continue to play ?
Are netminders like footie goalies, and considered to get better with age ? (Hasek, Belfour, Joseph)
I dont think I would be alone in stating that my accolade for all time best Panthers nettie would be awarded to Trevor Robins,..but I'd be interested in the opinion of others.
EDIT ** Sausage fingered typing strikes again

I'd have to agree & go with Robins. I don't know about getting better with age but he used to get better the longer the game was (take the 117 minute sem-final as an example).
He was also focused to the point where his wife knew not to speak to him from Friday morning onwards.

The best goalie that has ever been in a panthers shirt is without no doubt is robins. Rovnianek might come close but it will always be robins for me.

Rovnianek is no where near panthers best ever netminder, BUT he brings something different to the table that the league and panthers need
at the moment hes full of confindence and believes in him self

.........and he is FUN to watch.
I had wondered just how long it would take you to start a "Robins is my hero" thread. ;D ;D ;D
EDIT: Not that I disagree, of course

I doubt most fans can actually list which players played netminder for the club during the 1940's & 1950's (without looking at history sites) so "greatest Panthers goalie" is ridiculous full stop.
Who is the greater player, Jinman or Zamick?
Answers on a post card, depending on what side of the fence you sit.

Jarkko Kortesoja OK, that's a lie. Robins. I raise you Pasi Hakkinen (I'm not being exactly truthful either) Ladislav Kudrna.

Thats an easy one, trevor robins is by far the best net minder we have ever had, when he was on form he was just about unbeatable, you just knew that if it wasnt a 2 on 1 or a deflection he would stop it !

Or what about the great Steve Butler?
Scott O'Connor could have been the goalie instead of Butler the year we nearly won the league. I wanted to cry when I first heard that.

Kudrna was immense for us in the 2004/2005 playoffs (although not immense enough of course!)

Your best that I can remember was Robins. Was always tough to beat.
Worst? That I can remember as a starter it was Steve Butler! But until the point where we signed Wayne Cowley, the standard of netminding across the league was fairly poor.
