Linky ThingThis is my first real memory of the Panthers. It was still a couple of years before I was actually taken to a game but I remember watching this game on Grandstand specifically to see whether or not I could see my grandma, dad and great grandma in the crowd! Anyone recognise any faces above?

Can't pick out any faces from the photo Kim, but it is a day I remember very well!
I was 13 (nearly 14 - my parents bought my birthday present that day and had it ready to give me early to cheer me up if we lost) and went with my two uncles. It was a fantastic day - first time in a final, a big crowd in an arena that size and of course the result.
When the players were lining up for overtime, my ever-pessimistic uncle said with a hint of resignation "We won't be here long..." (as I have been heard to comment myself when a game goes to OT these days, carrying on the family tradition). When Fife hit the post after about 5 seconds of OT, he looked at us all knowingly. Of course, he was spot on as up popped Layton Erratt to score the winner at 61.53 (you think I had to look up the time? Yeah right). There was a moment of near silence - disbelief I guess, then the Panthers fans erupted.
As I now live in Birmingham, I pass the NEC quite often and always think of that day. And when I go to a concert there, I always say a quiet thanks to Layton Erratt and look longingly at the bit of floor where the goal would have stood. If I have a standing ticket, I even try to have a wander around where the ice would have been before taking my place for the gig. Sad but true.

Don't recall Fife hitting the post? I thought Dave Stoyanovich scored with that effort it was washed out for offside? Might be wrong myself as my memory isn't too strong.
As for the GWG it was about the only rebound Andrew Donald in the Fife goal gave up IIRC.
A good day out.

As I recall from watching the video since, Al Sims took a shot that hit the post, it came out to Stoyanovich who aimed top shelf but I think Cox grabbed it. The whole play was washed out for offside anyway.

Look at the photos on the link and see Panthers wearing proper shirts. I like our shirts this year but think they would have been even better if the logo had had a red background in the middle, like the old shirts.
Note also a very young looking Alan Batchelder goal judging.
