Ah yes. What a night. ;D ;D On the downside, at the current rate of occurances since we reformed, this means another 10 years to the next one. (Not that I want you all to get the impression that I think bench clearers are a good thing. Not every week, anyway)

While we waited for the game to restart, my grandma was telling us about a massive brawl the original Panthers were involved in during the 50s against the Paisley Pirates. She said, and I quote "it made that look like Torvill and Dean" Would have liked to have seen that!! Does anyone have any idea of what the world record number of penalty minutes given in a single game is and whether or not 9/2/01 is anywhere near it (or indeed is it)?

Ooooh the memories! Will have to dig the game tape out and have another look Was a good game of hockey - especially after the brawl. Seem to remember Sir Robert scored a goal in that game. And Jordan took over in net didn't he and decided the Steelers weren't scoring anymore that evening! ;D

I still have my ticket for that game and the old 'Iceweb' print out for match stats. It gives 230 pm's to us and 223 to Sheffield.

Out of interest, you may wish to know that in the 'other' bench clearer, against Ayr on 1 March 1986, it finished Panthers 106 Ayr 149. However that was in the days when players got 10 minutes in the records for game and gross misconducts. If you apply today's rules of 20 minutes for each, it finished Panthers 189 Ayr 256.

Not forgetting the bench clearance against Murrayfield Racers which was abandoned with the Panthers leading 10 - 2. Just out of coincidence that match was the first time I attended a hockey game. On the theme of records for penalty minutes it must be right up there as a leading contender. The NHL record was broken the season proir to the lock-out with Philadelphia Flyers & Ottawa Senators sharing 419 PiM's between them. link

I've had absolutley no luck finding the world record number of penalty minutes in a single game. I'd have thought it would have been one of the easier stats to find.

If i remember rightly i think the record number of pims is held by springfield, i think they had a match where every single one of their players got a match! lol

I remember taking my daughter and her boyfriend ( now husband) to the game. She couldnt believe the carnage and it really did upset her. She didnt go to another game for several years. Strangely enough she now thinks this eras players are pussycats

Not a very cautious person at the start of the video that screams out swear words ;D Yep, I always hold my head in shame over that one and I`m still ribbed about it today by a certain GM. ;D Especially as I`ve been an instructor on media training course`s for the last three years and the first thing I tell people is " always treat any mic as live " I should have practiced what I preach these days any way we live & learn and I learned the hard way
