I brought my Dad to his first match at the NIC on Saturday and he asked me why they were there. In an honest answer I said I didn't know, but I presume that they are names of players who have played for the Panthers, and had their numbers retired. Would I be right in saying that?

Rippingale 3
Garry passed away at a young age when he played for Panthers after a night out with the team I believe he choked on his own vomit in his sleep

10 is the retired number of Randall Weber. I believe Greg Hadden's 11 is there, and I'd expect Paul Adey's 21, but I can't recall for certain which numbers are there.

without sounding horrible I've never really understood why adey and webers numbers are up on the wall alongside players who gave their all before an untimely end. I spent years trying to trace Gary Rips shirt which hung in the old scorebox at the rink without any luck.any help gratefully received!

Have a look at a hockey statistics site or Pete Walch's Panthers history site to find out just how good Paul Adey was for us, and just what a service he gave to the club. Let me recommend hockeydb.com Paul is the all time leading Panthers points scorer and boy did he rack up a few.

quite how strongman and zamick aren't up there i'll never know.
the 60th anv season would have been the perfect time for such an event, they are both still with us and could have had a joint ceremony, it would have the classy thing to do.....oh, well
ps. maybe something for archie stinchcombe too, i mean he only won an olympic gold medal.

You trying to make a point about something Steve? ;D
I think Panthers have missed a trick by only retiring numbers. I think they should celebrate names rather than numbers like the Maple Leafs (I think?) do because there have been some great players & servants to this club who aren't currently being recognized in any way & their numbers are still be used - Strongman, Zamick, Hunt, Fraser, Bremner & Kurtenbach spring to mind immediately. It shouldn't mean that every Tom, Dick & Claude Savoie should be honoured but these players deserve some form if recognition for their time in Nottingham.

I agree that Zamick and Strongman's numbers should be retired and this year would've been a great time to do it.
Serious consideration for Bremner and Kurtenbach also I reckon.
We ought to make far more of our great history. It's something that most of the other Elite teams lack and it sets us aside from the rest.

johnny bremners number 8 shirt was retired by the club, but when we moved to the new rink this was forgotton and clayton norris wore it, this is a disgrace, the club cant retire a shirt then change its mind, bremner should be up there and we should have also retired tk's no 9

Yes the Leafs do honour numbers, and have done so for the following: Turk Broda & Johnny Bower #1 Hap Day & Red Kelly #4 King Clancy & Tim Horton #7 Charlie Conacher & Ted Kennedy #9 Syl Apps & Geroge Armstrong #10 Bjore Salming #21 Frank Mahovlich & Darryl Sittler #27 Only jerseys #5 & #6 are retired (Bill Barilko & Ace Bailey.)

So surprised T.K number han't been retired. could do a nice ceremony where Cookie removes his number nine shirt and hands it to T.K as the number is raised to the rafters, see got it all planned.

It would be nice for the NIC to honour the Panthers legends, there is so much space near the box office and around the arena to have some pictures or a walls worth of dedication to the Panthers greats. All I can think of that is hockey related in the NIC is the signed european team jerseys hanging nicely out of sight. Lets show a bit of pride eh?

It's probably because it wasn't retired when he left/retired & other players have worn it since.
Maybe a cause like this is something that the Cat's Whiskers online could take up. I know they had a Hall of Fame so perhaps they could start some sort of campaign to get the likes of Hunty, Kurtenbach, Bremner & Fraser commemorated in some way.

I believe (but please don't quote me on this) he was buried in his Panthers shirt.
