This must be a common question so forgive me for repeating it.
But where have the team names developed from? Anyone know?
The only ones I can see is Belfast giants because isnt it N. Ireland where those 2 giants stood on hills throwing rocks at each other making the giants couseway in the sea? (or am i mixing and matching my myths?) and the Sheff Steelers because i assume its from the big sheff steel industry.
But why the London Racers or the Nottingham Panthers (im pretty sure there werent ever any panthers in nottingham!) and the other teams we know.
Of course there may be no quirky stories about how teams got their names but for some im sure there is and i wouldnt mind hearing them (not limited to english teams).
Oh and my final part. Whats a 'Bruin'? as in the Boston Bruins?

The name Panthers is believed to have originated from a local RAF base if I remember correctly...
As for the word Bruin, it's another name for a bear, hence the Bruins' having a bear motif on their jerseys.

London Racers evolved from the Haringey Racers who in turn revived the Harringay Racers name. That came about because the original Harringay Arena was next to the Harringay Stadium which hosted speedway and greyhound racing. That's also why the other Harringay/Haringey team was the Greyhounds.

if your on about the nottingham lions, i guess it just comes from that the main team in nottingham is called panthers, so they decided to carry on the big cat theme and call them the lions, same with all the junior teas i would of thought

Ahhh the london knights... 0.2 ... the buggers! Think I've missed a Panthers History lesson somewhere down the line.... At a guess, the Knights scored with 0.2 scs left in an important match to win them the game

[At a guess, the Knights scored with 0.2 scs left in an important match to win them the game Yup - in a Playoff semi-final at the NIC no less - and some folk still haven't forgiven Maxwell for it! Not our finest hour Though the disappointment was tempered to some degree by the fact that the Knights had what seemed to be a perfectly good goal ruled out a bit earlier, when the puck appeared to go straight through the mesh of the goal netting! Remember GM saying it should have been a goal. The Final was played using the old goal nets instead of the shiny new ones used on the Saturday.....

we were poor for most of the game and i guess thought we would win in penalties but it never got to that they deserved to win but the manner was a little hard to swallow......
