For a second. He's a UFA at the end of the season so we get a chance to talk to him about a contract now. Slightly disappointed that we aren't going for Giguere but ho hum...

Yeh, without doubt. Expect Esche to move sometime in the next 42 minutes.

Too get Giguere from Anaheim would have to be a ridiculous trade of Biblesque proportions! You'd be right back in the position when you traded with the Nords for Lindros!

Giguere is a UFA next year. Doesn't look like he'll re-sign either.

That's what they always say. I have a feeling that Hasek is either bionic - or an alien.

Where did i ever say i was sure he would come to us? I said i was disappointed that we didn't go for him. There will be other teams going in for him for sure. I think that Detroit will stick by Hasek for another season, he's had another excellent year this year so don't need a new guy as such. We'd be an attractive proposition though.

You said the following: Slightly disappointed that we aren't going for Giguere but ho hum... Which assumes you have a chance to sign said player or that Giguere would even consider you. Not rocket science Daniel.

Which assumes you have a chance to sign said player or that Giguere would even consider you. Not rocket science Daniel. You think Giguere wouldn't consider a move to the Flyers because we've had one poor season? Don't be silly, he'll consider the side that offers him the most money, like most professional sportsmen nowadays. Considering we'll have the deepest pockets in the UFA market im the summer, i'd suggest that we could have had a legitimate go at getting him, like i said. I know there's an argument that he'll want to go to an established contender but we're not going to be tanking for much longer. Like i said, it's not certain we'll sign him at all, all i said was that i was disappointed we didn't try to sign him. Please don't put words into my mouth. Not rocket science chapPS. Please refrain from using my first name in future, especially if you're going to be condescending about it.

IMO Giggy would have had a long look at the Flyers; its a great hockey market, lots of history, and as youve said, deep pockets.
Can't see it now though, but I do reckon that Biron is a slight upgrade on what you had before.

No, i think we'll definitely re-sign Biron now. I'd be more than happy with it too, especially as Biron will probably sign for $3-4m, cheaper than Giggy and therefore will leave us more money to bolster the front lines.

Apparently[/i] Biron will sign a three year contract at 2.4 a year within the next 48 hours. That's a good total for me.

Signed a two year deal according to nhl.com and the flyers site. doesn't mention $$$ tho.
now i know my maths is not great but on the flyers article it says Biron in 19 games for the sabres compiled a 12-4-1 record - am i missing something or is that 17?

I believe that he played in a couple of games where he didn't get a decision? I seem to remember him being pulled in an Ottawa game after being 4-1, 5-1 down? but Buffalo came back to tie the game.

$3.5 a year for a true number one goalie is a perfectly good deal to me.

Aye, i think it's been heightened by his performances since joining though. With a shoddy defence, he's had some awesome games. 2 years is a bit short, but i'm still happy enough.

Wooooo
His first game since the signing and he has a blinder, letting in one tough goal in a 5-1 win over Carolina. Kukkonen, Carter and Hatch were awesome.

Thought the Flyers played a real good game, the D did a great job of blocking shots, Biron was expectional, his been a great trade for the flyers. also the Flyers may pick up Scott Hannan in the offseason, as a sharks fan I'd be gutted his a good skating D man with great postional play.

Biron was expectional? I think we're going after Timmonen rather than Hannan, either would suit me down to the ground.

It's not as if you're struggling for cap space next year, so it's an okay deal. Raycroft is on $2m a season and he's been streaky but has generally played to that price. Who's going to be back up in Philadelphia next year? I know Esche is a UFA and Niittymaki is RFA...? Apparently Toronto may make a pitch for Noronen who's playing in Russia, but we desperately need to get the back up position sorted.
