So are we no longer training? As far as im aware the team is no more. I havent played now for a few weeks. Might go down to Northstars monday night(tomorrow), i know most of the guys train with those. I've heard its alot faster tho.
bit stuck for ice time at the mo. Being 20 and a novice player isnt good if you want ice time. HELP! BRING BACK ASHFIELD AVS ON SUNDAY NIGHTS!

from what ive seen, heard and read they have now folded due to ridiculous ice time prices and lack of sponsorship etc.. really is sad to see teams going because of this i just hope we can start promoting the sport a little more before its too late and the "smaller" clubs and beginners clubs are no more, afterall we all have to start some where ;D ;D

Totally agree with you.
However, the only way to do this is to generate more competition, with more rinks. Unfortunately it is straight supply and demand, and they can charge whatever prices they like. Streatham is £350 for an hour and a half. They know that the womens team will pay this as there is no other option.
Until there is another rink built in this city, the NIC will charge whatever they like.

yeah this is a shame. It was the deteriation in numbers turning up regularly sunday nights that seemed to make it too expensive for the club. I feel a bit stuck now. Il be giving northstars ago tonight i know alot of the guys trained with ashfield.....
i think ashfield avs became just a bit of casual ice time for peeps rather than a team. gutted, all us newbies who played are going to suffer. just hope tonight goes okay.

Ashfield Avalanche folded due to the ice time cost going up, and the lack of people training regular each week, so they had no other option but to stop the training sessions as they couldnt afford it anymore.
It will be good to see you down at Northstars tonight mate, i'll be down as usual. Its a good session, its faster, but it improves you as a player and you'll soon get upto speed.

I must admit that I was one of those "casual" players that used to go when I could, which used to be every week almost when I was in Nottm.
Its a shame the NIC don't do a drop in session, just an open session where you pay on the door, kinda like general skating. Why don't they organise anything, instead of private individuals having to form teams? Why? Cos it makes too much sense for the folk down at the NIC. When I was in the US, this was all I used to do, the rinks used to be drop in for anyone, except you had to put your name on a list in case they had too many people.
But the guys down there were great, I will miss them! Thanks for all the memories, and I hope you find a home again soon! Preferably in a nice new rink in Nottingham!

its quite "depressing" in a way, i mean at the mo im playing for Peterborough Phoenix (smallish Rec team) i mean were nothing big and special just your typical run of the mill rec team, since the refurb at p'boro training time been moved to 2215 - 2330 on a tuesday night from a fairly decent time on a friday night (when you think bout work etc..) you finish training get changed etc and your already talking 00:00hrs then travel home, the only "good" thing been at the minute its only £10p/w but we have got approx 15 ppl a week show (sometimes alot less) even that only gives £150 so i cant see peterborough charging "ridiculous" prices although if any of you have seen the place it is far from "a good Rink"
One thing that has always puzzled me is Notts have an ice rink, P'boro have and ice rink but Leicester dont, and i know a fair few people in Leicester who regularly travel up to notts for skating id of thought thered be one by now even if it was like the NIC and had the capability of been an Arena aswell im sure they'd get concerts booked in there.

I mean for hockey... for me, I'd say I was fairly good, competitive... I'm not interested as I live in London, but if I was in Nottingham, I would be. It would need to be something like Ashfield training. Is that what it is??

They dont do a drop in session because the NIC is a figures first people second organisation. If they have a slow week and someone high up doesnt get their new X5 heads will roll. It wasnt just the fact they put the price up it was the fact they wanted a bond which was a few weeks in hand so somebody had to come up with a lot of money up front. Argh just dont get me started lol. Also to be fair there are insurance implications so it cudnt be literally drop in and play

Get some wheels on your skates No difference apart from you cant stop. Haha, this is so true! lol I found this out this week going down a slope. Lucky for me it was a short one. lol Well, I think most people knew the Avs would pack in eventually for one reason or another, but mostly due to low number of regulars. Still can't believe the politics at the NIC, useless. Does anyone know where the current plans are at for the proposed Mansfield Ice Rink or have they been pushed out by the NIC? As regards any more Ice Rinks in England, I'd be supprised, with ever more Local Authorities going for this synthetic Plastic Ice with a nice slippery coating (it's cheaper to install and maintain than ice) that you can supposidly use proper ice skates on and they recon even play hockey. I seriously can't see it being any use for anyone. The problem is the way the results of local trials are put forwards to Local Authorities. After much testing, the results were: "The kids seem to really enjoy skating on it". Well of course they would if they have never tried real wet ice. Kids are amused by any slippery surface. but this comment is enough apparently for councils to replace ice rinks with plastic floor rinks that are too slippery for roller activities. Sorry, Rant over, it's just all this gets right on my nerves, dag namit! lol

Me and 2 friends have been trying to get into hockey now for around a month!, We have improved our skating but are struggling for anyone willing to let us play in a novice rec team!
We enquired about having our own 1 hour session at Sutton started up, it wasnt too expensive, What about the cage having an novice team starting up !!!! No politics just pass and shoot fun hockey.
Please note you're intrest here !
