I play for a gym hockey (dry land version of Ice Hockey - no skates) team in Nottingham.
If anyone is interested in getting involved, or starting a team please get in touch.
There are a couple of teams in Nottingham that we know of. Ours (Arnold) play at Southglade Leisure Centre, and there is a team at Eastwood. Both teams have a junior and senior set-up.
Any roller hockey or rec hockey teams who fancy giving us a game, get in touch also.

Hi there i am also interested in playing. I used to play for the Raiders a few years back so have a bit of knowledge about the game. Tuesdays aren't that great for me though i was wondering if you knew what day the Eastwood team trained or if you have a contact number?

They train on a Monday night at Greasley Leisure Centre. I could get you a contact number, but if you speak to Rob Doughty who works at the leisure centre and runs the team he'll let you know the time.
Cheers.
Rob.

Goalies wear full kit most out players wear leg guards, gloves a box and some wear elbow pads. don't know many who wear helmets or shoulder pads. Come and give it a go, many former panther brits used to play .

Got to be old now. They were about when I started it all off in the 80's. Heard some of them are off to Chechoslovakia to play a game or two. Thought it was big when we hit Sheffield,Manchester and Peterborough.

Yeah we're hoping to go to the Czech Republic in the spring to play in a tournament.
If you have any contact details for the Peterborough, Sheffield or Manchester people, let us know.

Anyone know if they power forward who used to pay for Bestwood Bruins still plays? Can't recall his name but he was awsome, scored heaps of goals, think he played #21 but not sure. Last I heard he had headed over to North America but not sure. Anyone remember his name, he was my all time favourite player. He played at Northside too.

His name was Steve Wislon, he played for the Arnold Aztecs and Arnold Wolves also. I heard he eventually had to retire because of the amount of nose bleeds he suffered when returning to his own zone.
Last I heard of him he was living in Daybrook with his best mate Gerrod.
He ought to get in touch via this forum and publish some of the great articles he used write about Gym Hockey.

No contact numbers found regards other city/towns-sorry.
Still got some old trophies from the era at Portland (meadows) . We had two leagues and 12 teams running then, as it was 5-7 a team at first.
Remember the Clifton Oilers, Toton Rangers, Bramcote 69ers , West Bridgford Spear, Beeston Bullets and Carlton Scorpions? We played for Cup,League and Play-Offs. AND had an end of year presentation party.

Certainly do remember it well. I played with the Bestwood Bruins.
For all you old players out there, who was the best player in the Portland and Northside leagues? I'll say Kev Jackson and Andy Redgate.

There were certainly a few good players back then - for me, amongst the best were Steve Dring (Clifton Oilers) & Simon Beet (Toton Rangers/Beeston Bullets).
Had a great time whilst we (Carlton Scorpions) were playing, getting to play in such exotic places as Peterborough, Manchester, Sheffield & Fife, notto mention the delights of Radford & Northside's place!
