Just listened to that Them Crooked Vultures album for the second time... mainly to make sure I hadn't missed some quality stuff the first time around. I hadn't. OK, it's not excruciatingly painful to listen to... but I can't see what the fuss is all about. A big pile of not-very-much-at-all is what it seems like to me.
Yet another triumph of marketing over substance?

Taking the wife to see 30 seconds to Mars in Feb. Surprised they are playing at the arena, considering last year they were playing out of uni rooms.
But they seem to be getting bigger and their new stuff seems quite good.
Any one else going?

A little harsh, perhaps... wasn't too impressed with the last two, but I like 'em all up to and including "One By One". As for Probot... yeah, not madly impressed with that, either. Not sure what it is with all of these 'guest' albums and so-called 'supergroup' compilation jobbies... the first "Iommi" album I thought was (mostly) pretty good, but "Fused" was naff. Probot didn't grab me much either. Them Crooked Vultures hasn't impressed at all, but I absolutely love that Chickenfoot album. On the lighter side of things - as I also like a lot of blues and (real) rhythm & blues - the first Jools Holland "Small World, Big Band" album was class, the rest haven't impressed me at all. Maybe it's just the record companies that think big names always mean big quality?

Quite like the new track, always worry how a band will follow up something as excellent as the "59 Sound" album, but this seems up to standard. With hindsight, I wish I'd have got to Hard Rock Calling earlier last summer to catch them live. Wasn't really into their music then, so we didn't get to the venue until later in the afternoon. Very much looking forward to seeing them in Birmingham in June.

i'm in two minds about this track. i always find it difficult to listen to new material after becoming so familiar with previous outings. will definitely be buying the album when it comes out, but i have a feeling that it wont stand up to 'sink or swim', which in my opinion outshines 'the 59 sound'.

Nah it doesn't. 59 Sound is almost perfection.

hell, i think the songs on senior and the queen are better than some on the 59.
we all know that bands get progressively worse once throughout their careers. its just a fact of life. sink or swim was a lot less refined, more edgy and raw. their true sound, and with this new song, you can tell they are mellowing out as they progress.

*Dire i say sack everything off and get Kyuss back together. it is easy to see when listening to Kyuss, why every new band that Homme and Oliveri decide to create is regarded as rubbish. Modo Generator, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal and Them Crooked Vultures are all crap in comparison to this. oh god, i swear i forgot how good these guys sound. sunny days, rolling with the windows down, with this rolled right up... Goddamn i love stoner rock. perfection. John Garcia had such a sexual voice, may i present to you, along with Whitewater (above) Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop...

i'd recommend the new slash album, some solid tracks on there for any Slash fan.....good guitars solos too, some of his guest singers are questionable though.

Been meaning to get that, who are the questionable singers Lee?
For me he could've stuck with the chap from the last Snakepit album, Rodney Something-or-other. That fella's got a cracking voice.

Been meaning to get that, who are the questionable singers Lee? For me he could've stuck with the chap from the last Snakepit album, Rodney Something-or-other. That fella's got a cracking voice. Full list: 'Ghost' (featuring Ian Astbury) 'Beautiful Dangerous' (featuring Fergie) 'Nothing To Say' (featuring M Shadows) 'Crucify The Dead' (featuring Ozzy Osbourne) 'Promise' (featuring Chris Cornell) 'By The Sword' (featuring Andrew Stockdale) 'Doctor Alibi' (featuring Lemmy) 'Saint Is A Sinner Too' (featuring Rocco De Luca) 'Watch This' (featuring Dave Grohl and Duff McKagan) 'I Hold On' (featuring Kid Rock) 'Gotten' (featuring Adam Levine) 'We're All Gonna Die' (featuring Iggy Pop) 'Starlight' (featuring Myles Kennedy) Baby Can’t Drive (feature Alice Cooper/Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls). i kind of think some were used as a marketing tool to get a wider audience to buy it (Fergie, Rocco De Luca, M Shadows) but the singer from Alter bridge, ozzy, the cult singer all do a good job though IMO as well as the instrumental track featuring dave grohl and Duff Mckagan. I bought the Classic Rock magazine special edition which has a really good magazine in there about Slash and the album. well worth the extra $$. Plus it has a bonus track on there which has Flea on bass, Steven Adler on drums with Alice Cooper/Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls doing vocals.

I'm not usually much of a fan of guest albums - and I've never been more than peripherally interested in GNR and their spin-offs - but I have to admit... I'm liking this new Slash album. Not half bad.

just got an advance copy of the gaslight anthems new album.
2 songs in and i'm very impressed. the song american slang is still a dissapointment, but track 2, stay lucky, is a cracker. it is a step away from the more punk-ish tones of the first album, sink or swim, but its still a good outing from the band none the less.
oh, and for anyone who doesnt own the album, the 59 sound, its £3.99 on amazon at the minute. bargain.
you can thank me later...

For any metal fans, sad news on Sunday that Ronnie James Dio lost his battle with stomach cancer. Bad times.
